25.01.2022 PRO TIP: If a drum skin breaks, you should break the whole skin so that it doesn't exert unbalanced force on the shell. If you've got a partially broken drum gathering dust, the shell is also slowly warping.

24.01.2022 Were seeing a lot of broken drums around Brisbane this month. I think the sudden change from warm and wet to cool and dry is making some wooden shells change shape. Please check your drums regularly and keep them in tune. If not playing for a while, tune them lower. And if theyre broken, come to Tabla Wala Australia!

23.01.2022 I highly recommend this app to all tabla students and professionals. I have been testing this family of apps since the early days and can vouch for the progress in the user experience culminating in this "Ultimate" version. In terms of creating a musical atmosphere for your riaz it beats other synthesised naghma apps hands down. (And dont even talk about those old 90s Lehra machines...) There are still a few little tweaks Id like to see implemented to really polish it up, but Im assured theyre on the way. Give it a try - you may end up plumping for the cheaper Pro or basic versions, but take advantage of this 3 day trial first. - Shen of Tabla Wala Australia and Ashu Babu Memorial Tabla School.

14.01.2022 TABLA TRANSFORMATION (This video is all about the sound.) These "brand new" drums had very poor quality skins on cheap but pretty shells. The syahi were so thin, they had no sustain nor resonance. Enter Tabla Wala Australia - good puris make such a difference.

03.01.2022 Tabla Wala Australia Launches in Brisbane Australias best tabla and tabla supplies are now available in Brisbane, as local business Tabla Wala Australia has launched in Oxley. Supplying top quality drums, skins and other accessories from leading Varanasi tabla maker Mohammad Anwar, Tabla Wala Australias Shen Flindell has been building the business from the ground up over the last 10 years. Its been a long and difficult process, as Australias strict quarantine regulation...s can make importing drums and skins a bit of a lottery, said Shen, also a well known classical tabla player in Brisbane. Ive spent a lot of time over the years with my tabla maker Anwar working on how to make good quality instruments which will be reliably cleared by Quarantine. Once he understood just how strict they can be, he worked very hard on getting his skins and straps meticulously clean. We also document the process of manufacture so that Quarantine staff are satisfied the products are safe. While studying the Benares style of classical tabla with his guru Pt Ashutosh Bhattacharya since 1994, Shen also learnt a great deal from Anwar about repairing tabla. Nowadays many tabla players from Brisbane and around Australia have their tablas repaired by Shen or use his puris, including Dheeraj Shrestha, Ravi Singh, Joseph Nand, and Bobby Singh (Sydney). Anwars tabla puris are just so reliable. Its a lot of work putting on a new tabla skin so you want to make sure that your parts are good quality before you start. 03.01.2022 Were happy to repair drums with your skins but cant offer any guarantees, unlike with our own puris, made by leading Benares tabla maker Anwar. In January a client asked me to fix their tabla with their own skin. I did so but as expected from the appearance, the sound was terrible. This week they asked me to fix it again with our puris. The first one was a bit buzzy (which happens occasionally), so I put on another. Third time lucky for this drum. It now sounds beautiful and should last a good while if kept in tune and played nicely.
