19.01.2022 SOLD PENDING A new batch of Leptospermum polygalifolium ‘Jellybush’ is ready! There’s 100+ here in forestry tubes @ $2ea. A native shrub to around 2m tall, quite hardy, pretty white flowers and great as bee fodder, producing high quality honey. Best in full sun and likes a good tip prune to bush out. Just message to place your order; pickup Atherton at a time that suits you!

17.01.2022 Melicope rubra ‘Little Euodia’ tubestock $5ea or buy all 10 for $40. This large native shrub is one of the hosts for the spectacular Ulysses butterfly and it also boasts pink flowers along the branches which provide nectar for birds and adult butterflies. Being the host plant means that it is one of the few plants that the Ulysses can lay it’s eggs on, for the caterpillars to then feed on. If you plant a few, some distance away from each other in your garden, it will encourage the butterflies to fly around from bush to bush so you can admire them! Height 3 - 6m.

05.01.2022 Time for Dal: Shucked two buckets of pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) last night, so now we have an extra 700g. Pigeon pea is very nutritious, high in protein, and fi...rst off I'll make dal. Shucking takes patience, which is why I'm happy to grow a large seeded cultivar from the The Seed Savers' Network. Seed of this tall-growing heritage cultivar are on average 20-25% larger than conventional pigeon pea sold as packet seed in Australia, and since plants take an extra month to six weeks to mature they have fallen from favour. The flowers of this cultivar are just as attractive to native bees of many species - mine were being being visited by fire-tailed resin bees and blue-banded bees on every warm day during winter. I recommend every school food garden should grow pigeon pea simply to discover which native bee species frequent the area. When it takes one hour to shuck one bucketful of pigeon pea pods, you really appreciate that 20-25% gain in yield per pod (and the value of machines). Over the years, from my own records, I know that I can grow almost double the yield of a conventional pigeon pea farmer...and this heritage cultivar is a part of that success :) Recipe: Buttery pigeon pea dal. 05.01.2022 Rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa) 130mm $5ea or 3 for $10! Height to around 2m, it is perennial, but often grown as an annual to get the best crop.

04.01.2022 Leptospermum polygalifolium ‘Jellybush’ Another batch of forestry tubes is ready, 60 available now at $2ea. A native shrub to 2m tall, the white flowers attract bees.
