21.01.2022 International Family Drug Support Day will be held in various locations across Qld next week. Officially, International Family Drug Support Day is set on the date of the passing of Damien Trimingham from a drug related overdose. The day has become an annual event to highlight the need for families to not only be recognised and heard but to be supported and encouraged to speak about their concerns and their needs. This year the event occurs on various days during next week depending on your location. In Far North Queensland, it will be held at YETI, 3 Winkworth St, Bungalow, Cairns, between 3pm-5pm tomorrow (Feb 20th).
20.01.2022 QLD GOVERNMENT RELEASES "ACTION ON ICE" PLAN TO ADDRESS METHAMPHETAMINE The Queensland Government has launched a whole-of-government "Action on Ice" plan, which addresses the use and harms caused by crystal methamphetamine. Throughout 2017, the Queensland Government engaged with the community, seeking input to understand the impacts of methamphetamine, particularly in rural and regional communities. The plan contains a broad range of actions including the establishment of a new residential rehabilitation service in Rockhampton, expanded access to specialist family support services, and an increase in alcohol and other drug treatment services provided through the non-government sector. https://events.premiers.qld.gov.au/ice/
20.01.2022 Welcome to our new program where we'll be taking care of maternal and child health. The Maternal and Child Health - Making Healthy Choices for Family Planning... and Pregnancy: Alcohol, Tobacco and Drug Education starts on May 1, and we are taking in bookings or expressions of interest, either directly or through other services. This six-week program for expectant mums/parents provides education regarding the importance of making healthy choices during pregnancy. It's focused on reducing alcohol, tobacco and drug use and aims to teach healthy coping strategies and motivate behaviour change. Our first program begins Tuesday, May 1 with further programs in June and September. Contact Community Health Worker Rose Clark at our Mabel St community centre for more information. See more
