23.01.2022 Congratulations to Tablelands locals Rob and Krista Watkins of Natural Evolution Foods Walkamin. Adding to their growing collection, Rob and Krista won the Prime Super Agricultural Innovation Award at the recent Queensland Community Achievement Awards. The Agricultural Innovation Awards showcases business innovation to enhance production and maximise returns, especially to the primary producers.



22.01.2022 Thanks to our wonderful community for answering our call for letters of support for funding for two bridges in Malanda and intersections in the Tolga Industrial Estate. We received letters from business, groups and individuals supporting our funding applications, and we've had some wins! Mary Street bridge and Merragallan Road bridge are set for upgrades under the Bridge Renewal Program. Under the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program, intersections on Beantree Road, ...at Barson Road and Albrecht Street, will be widened. Our infrastructure team is finalising designs and we'll keep you informed as the projects are scheduled. These projects will be jointly funded by the Australian Government and TRC. 21.01.2022 A boil water notice (BWN) has been issued for properties connected to the Bellview Estate and Cassowary Heights water supply schemes. A BWN remains in place for properties connected to the Ravenshoe and Millstream water supply schemes. Recent rain has increased the turbidity (cloudiness) of the sources, which means we can't adequately treat the water supply. 20.01.2022 Our annual pre-cyclone clean up for residents who receive an age or disability pension and are in a kerbside collection area is on again! We’ll remove green waste, iron and general yard debris. White goods, furniture, household rubbish, car bodies and tyres will not be collected as part of this clean up. 16.01.2022 We've partnered with the Bureau of Meteorology and the Queensland Reconstruction Authority to install six early warning flood gauges across our region. The gauges at Malanda, Bromfield Swamp, Wondecla, Wild River, Wongabel and Scrubby Creek will provide real time flood data to help us better understand the impacts of rainfall in the catchments. As part of the project we also installed a camera and seepage monitor on the Wild River Dam. Knowledge is power and we're now equipped to make informed disaster decisions. 13.01.2022 A new grant is helping transport our cardboard and plastic to the closest recycling facility in Brisbane. We're committed to diverting waste from landfill and usually have to foot the bill for transportation by truck. 10.01.2022 Have you ever eaten the fruit from the Quinine bush (Petalostigma banksi)? It's very bitter and has a similar taste to the quinine used in tonic water. Quinine has rough bark and very hard timber. The leaves are mainly hairless and the fruits open to release the seeds. The common name 'Quinine' is used across other states for several species of trees. Petalostigma pubesens for example, looks similar but the leaf is hairy underneath.
