09.06.2022 Sharing from one of our families a great idea! I got an off-cut/ reject lamb skin from our local ugg boot manufacturer for the dogs to play with. It’s been a hit because they can nuzzle, drag it around, rip it up and it isn’t my slippers!!! Thought to share as an indoor activity idea for any other spoilt doggos who also have a slipper fetish. 21.04.2022 What a day! I’m sooooo proud of our two boys, Bernie and Cena. A very challenging job, lots of distractions and the need for off lead work with other dogs around and they rocked it! Plus the usual loud noises, strangers, cars, lights top effort from both! A good nights sleep ahead

16.04.2022 Guessing game how long do you think Meekas birthday present lasted?

24.01.2022 Jim Black, 80, is lucky to be alive after being thrown from a horse and breaking his neck near his Winton home in August last year. A neighbour found him, helpe...d him stand up, dust off and get to Tamworth Hospital. When they arrived, doctors told Jim to lie down and stay down. "The doctor said to me ‘If you move now, it’s goodnight and goodbye’, Jim reflects. I’d broken my neck right up where all the nerves are that help you to breathe. If I moved the wrong way, even by just a couple of millimetres, I would be dead. After surviving a touch-and-go night in ICU flanked by his wife Sandy, Jim started what would be almost six months in hospital. The care Jim got was second to none, Sandy said. They became like family, really. We couldn’t fault them, they were wonderful. We want to give them a big rap. Understandably, a couple of weeks into his admission the farmer of more than 40 years wasn’t enjoying his hospital stay, so the staff devised a simple scheme keep him in touch with rural life. One of the girls in ICU said to me ‘what about his dog? Do you want to bring his dog in?’, Sandy remembers. I don’t think she realised he was a Blue Cattle Dog and rather large. Soon after, their 30kg dog Boots, who up until that point had been a bona fide working animal, was invited to visit Jim every day as a stand-in therapy pet. They asked me to give him a bath and bring him in, Sandy said. He’d sit on a sheet, which would be dirty by the time we left, even though he was having baths every day. It was so nice to see him, Jim said. It took him a while to figure out what the visits were all about. When he left the hospital each day, he’d get me by the hand and try to take me home with him. I had a tracheostomy tube in place so I couldn’t talk to him and tell him what’s going on. The pet therapy was working so well, Sandy piled Boots into the car and took him for a month-long stay in Nelson Bay to be close to Jim while he had further care and surgery at John Hunter Hospital. When they returned to Tamworth Hospital, Boots continued his therapy role visiting Jim in the rehabilitation unit. It’s now been six months since Jim left hospital. He’s able to walk, and now relearning to talk, swallow, eat and drink as he once did. He’s almost finished restoring the 1925 Dodge Brothers Touring Car he’s been working on for years. He’s not as mobile as he was, so Sandy's become his apprentice, tinkering with the engine under his instruction when he needs a hand. Nine-year-old Boots, or 'Bootles' as the couple affectionately call him, now lives a privileged life. He's retired from cattle work. He's allowed to travel in the car, which was previously off-limits. He enjoys dog treats every evening and sleeps inside next to Jim's side of the bed.

01.01.2022 Clever babies at a Puppy School tonight!

01.01.2022 Have you ever wondered why some dogs are more stressed, sensitive to (and scared of) loud noises, while others are calmer and not concerned? Dogs are born with no hearing, and start to hear sounds when they’re around three weeks old. From 3 weeks to around 4 months, puppies are in a sensitive phase period as their hearing develops and they become accustomed to the usual sounds of our world. It is essential that puppies are exposed to, and learn about different noises during this period. Training puppies to be calm around noises and sounds is a crucial part of training to ensure a puppy grows to be a happy, well adjusted and confident member of society.
