23.01.2022 I feel that many people who are not really versed in the sport have either written or spoken about it, and they have attempted to create a concept that this is a very difficult sport to master. That simply isnt true. Lefty Kreh, Advanced Fly Fishing Techniques (1994). RIP.

09.01.2022 Hi fellow Fly Fishers, John has been kind enough to suggest I could add a quick review here for the followers of Tackle Safari and the great Xplorer Range of Fl...y gear, I have been fortunate over the last couple of months to have been able to put my relatively new Guide ll 10w and my XPS -S 10 weight Dorado through its paces several times at the Bli Bli Barra Fishing Park on Queenslands Sunshine Coast, Firstly as a customer and until recently as a new member of the Guiding Staff. For those that dont know, the Bli Bli Fishing Park complex is primarily a Barramundi fishing facility with fish stocked in varying sizes from 300mm to monster 120cm sizes. We are the Home Of The Southern Barra! The parks species inhabitants are widely mixed, 35 species all up with Bream, Whiting, Mangrove Jack, Giant Herring, Tarpon, Estuary Cod, Flathead, Jewfish, Moses Perch, Mullet and Milkfish and of course the iconic Barra. Most of which are seriously big. The all Saltwater Facility encovers several differing areas including a near natural creek system (which many years ago was actually a Jet Boat Course), with mangrove lined stretches, a football field sized open water system again with dispersed perimeter mangroves known as the Big Boys Lake and there is also a much, much larger body of water called The Middle Lake all with wide open spaces and ideal for those who wish to target Barramundi close to Brisbane City on flies. We all know it is the back cast that suffers in tight situations, ultimately affecting the forward delivery shot. Not so much here, punters can come and have crack with little fear of hooking up to vegetation and losing those favoured patterns. My suggestion for those considering coming to the park to target Barramundi specifically is to get yourselves set with a good 6 to 8w for the Creek System, but up sizing to a 10w if you would like to target the bigger Barra in the Big Boys or Middle Ponds. My Guide ll is just nice to use, comfortable and perfect for belting out the bigger flies one often uses. Basic intermediate lines are ample as the water depths are not much over 1.8 meters through out the whole area! I prefer clear tip lines such as the Rios tropical Saltwater and the SA Branded version as the Barra can be a bit fickle! This is not critical though! Leaders around 12 to 16lb are fine! Flies that work well are most typical of your average Barra Patterns, including, Clousers, Pink Things, Gold Bombers, Black and Barreds and Deceivers, if you find you are getting follows but no strikes, some times a drop in fly size can trigger a bite, be prepared to change things up, try other colours and even upsize your flies, different flies work on different days. One thing the park is great for is that guys can come and fish in a more controlled environment, practice and gain extra skills and confidence before heading off into the wild type situations. As a basic guide, the Facility holds Barramundi in the creek system from 30 to about 80cm, in the Big Boys from 60 to 120cm and in the Middle Lake anywhere up to possibly 50lb or more so be prepared for an epic battle should you connect to a big brute.. Good luck and break out that Xplorer Gear ready for your next big adventure! Tight Loops James.
