23.01.2022 Shared from Aboriginal Quitline AQL wants to congratulate the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities all around the country. Smoking rates have gone down by 10% over the past 15 years for us. Everything points to us dealing with breaking the addiction to tobacco together, as a Community. All these stats show that the more we have services like Aboriginal Health Workers, Tackling Indigenous Smoking Teams and Aboriginal Quitlines...The more we have positive outcomes ...through taking care of our Communities, using our ways. SBS contacted AQL and asked us to be interviewed to talk about this for an article that was released yesterday. Check it out here. Thanks to all our deadly collaborators and services around the state and country as we work together to help those who are ready to break addictions to smoking. Is you, or someone you know is looking for support to quit or cut down smoking, call Aboriginal Quitline on 13 78 48 and ask to speak to an Aboriginal counsellor. We open 8am - 8pm Monday to Friday. 22.01.2022 NEW PODCAST! Quit-Stories Episode 15 Baydens Story. Baydens tells us about how his time on Country is sacred and important to him, and like so many who ha...ve quit smoking, he found that when he was able to let go of the smokes he could more deeply connect and get back to his Cultural ways on country, and share with his kids and kin the traditions that were taught to him. Bayden explained his connection to country like an Aboriginal churcha place of healing and for family to gather, and how its so much better without tobacco. Have a listen to the whole podcast for some great advice from a strong Aboriginal man whos gone through the journey to quit smoking and how Community can get support from services like Mallee District Aboriginal Services (MDAS) to quit, and to get some of the positives that Bayden yarns with us about that hes been able to gain from making the change. If you or someone you know wants to get support to quit, Aboriginal Quitline is here from 8am 8pm Monday to Friday on 13 78 48. Ask for an Aboriginal counsellor to get Culturally focussed support to work towards cutting down or quitting smoking, on your termswhen youre ready. As alwaysNo judgementNo expectationsJust support.
