Theres a viral video going around lately of two Georgi...a US police officers who had a deranged knife wielding suspect run at them. The officers had their firearms and tasers drawn, pleading with the man repeatedly to drop the knife and offering him help, but the man rushed at one officer forcing him to open fire. After taking multiple shots already, the man got back up and rushed at the officer again with the knife and the officer almost lost his life. Distance can be closed so fast. Luckily the officer survived but it was a tragic day for all. A tough situation. Lots to learn from that incident. The video below is from my time in Israel doing Master Instructor training with Itay Gil, training close range knife terrorist vs police with firearm high pressure scenarios using Simunition FX, to drill and practice this very scenario often faced by police. Stabbings are fairly common occurrence in Israel, and many police officers are killed or wounded on the job. So Itay is demonstrating to us the techniques of deflection, and the importance of dynamic evasive movement, proficiency with your tools and the need for high stress firearms training under pressure.
