17.01.2022 Its election time! Take your camera and snap the atmosphere while youre out voting this weekend. Trove isnt just historic photographs, all our fabulous users... contribute their images of modern Australia too. And this weekend its time for one of those quintessentially Australian experiences - the federal election. The filling of churches/scout halls/public schools/town halls - you name it, our nation can put a polling booth in it - with cardboard boxes, sheets of paper longer than a table cloth and pencils smaller than you can comfortably hold in your fist. You can help capture the essence of Saturday, voting day, from wherever you are around the country. We want you to capture the images of YOUR polling booth. Spilling onions from your sausage sizzle while you wait in line outside the scout hall? Buying a jar of the-best-quince-jam-EVER from the Ladies Auxiliary as you shuffle past their (strategically placed) stall at the church hall door? Shaking hands with your local member? Watching volunteers fish leaflets out of the recycling bin to re-use for the next voter? Rugged up in foul weather gear in Antarctica? No one elses polling place is exactly like yours! Snap your pictures and upload them to our Flickr pool, just like this one snapped by OZinOH in 2013 http://trove.nla.gov.au/version/210148901. You can find instructions on how to contribute your images to Trove at: http://help.nla.gov.au//creating-contributing/adding-images As soon as you add it to our Flickr pool your photo will appear in Trove the next morning, just search the pictures zones. We cant wait to see what your Saturday looks like! And remember to keep your camera outside, away from the your neighbours ballot paper (and your own).

07.01.2022 Six apprentices have graduated from a six-month Lithgow Skills Centre (LSC) training program at TAFE Western. The LSC Program offers Electrical and Fitting and Machining apprentices an opportunity to increase their skills in a range of areas to enhance their trade qualifications. Some of the important skills the students learnt as part of the LSC Program include electrical enhancements, fitting and machining, metal fabrication projects, hydraulics and pneumatics, first aid a...nd communications, TAFE Western Business Capability Unit Director Brad Polak said. This LSC Program has been operating for more than 15 years and during this time more than 300 apprentices and their employers have benefitted from this initiative. Mr Polak said the LSC Program was a partnership between TAFE Western and industry representatives in the Lithgow region. This years partners included EnergyAustralia, Skillset Workforce, Centennial Coal and Thales Australia. Lithgow Skills Centre graduates for 2016 were: Lachlan Sharp, Skillset Workforce and Centennial Coal; Jack Turner, Skillset Workforce and Centennial Coal; Karl Olsen, Skillset Workforce and Thales Australia; Jordan Ticehurst, Skillset Workforce and Thales Australia; Lachlan Lennon, EnergyAustralia; Lleyton Peveril-Guest, Energy Australia. The LSC Program is a high quality, flexible training program customised to meet the needs of each employer and varying attendance patterns are negotiated by the employers for their apprentices, Mr Polak added. Id like to congratulate all of the graduates and pay special mention to Jordan Ticehurst who won the Outstanding Student Award for the mechanical trade and Jack Turner who won the Outstanding Student Award for the electrical trade. As part of their graduation, each student showcased their work and made a final presentation to a panel of employers and teachers. At the conclusion of these presentations, a graduation ceremony was held with colleagues, family and friends in attendance. For more information about the Lithgow Skills Centre Program, please email Brad Polak on [email protected] or phone 6393 2632.
