24.01.2022 International students may have noted content in their social media and news feeds this week about NAIDOC week and be wondering what it’s about. NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements. It is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indidenous Australians make to our country and society. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are th...e oldest continuing cultures on the planet. Always Was, Always Will Be is the theme for NAIDOC week 2020. This theme recognises that as First Nations people, Indigenous Australians have occupied and cared for Australia for over 65,000 years. Celebrations are held across Australia each year. #NAIDOC2020 runs from 8-15 November. There are a range of events as part of NAIDOC week. 16.01.2022 If you walk through the Graphic Design facilities at the Northbridge Campus of North Metropolitan TAFE, you’ll see examples of the quality of student work on display (Right by a Cert IV student; Left by a Diploma Student and Centre by an Advanced Diploma student). The second photo is a screen shot from a webinar which showed statistics for the 12 leading job gains (out of 430 occupational categories) by occupation in Australia between Feb-Aug 2020. Interesting to note Graphic/Web Designers and Multimedia/Web Developers featured highest in the Technology Category.

13.01.2022 Certain states like Western Australia are showing strong signs of labour market recovery. The Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre indicates that 93% of jobs have been recovered in Western Australia in the Mar-Oct period, the third highest of all states and territories. 15,300 additional jobs were added in Western Australia in October alone. https://bcec.edu.au//Monthly-Labour-Market-Update-October-
10.01.2022 The results are in: WA was the only State to see its economy grow over the last year. The ABS’s annual average data shows our strategy was the right one. While there’s more work to do, the data shows we kept Western Australians safe, while keeping the economy strong.

A visit to the new $400m WA Museum Boola Bardip (WAM) would be well worth your time.....and it's free from 30 November to 31 January! The newly refurbished WAM building is three times the size of the old museum and includes eight permanent galleries, a 1,000 square metre temporary exhibition gallery, a shop and a cafe. Labelled by the WA Premier Mark McGowan as one of the great public buildings in Australia d...uring the official opening, some of the heritage structures in the museum precinct date back to 1855. About 50,000 people are expected to visit the museum before it opens fully. To manage crowds, WAM are now taking free bookings for visitation from Monday 30 November to Sunday 31 January. 08.01.2022 Some additional career and industry insights on Artificial Intelligence or ‘AI’ from our friends at Insider Guides. Three of the top five programming languages used in #AI including Java, Python and C# are taught in the Diploma of Software Development delivered at both North Metropolitan TAFE & South Metropolitan TAFE. The Diploma has pathways to Bachelor Degrees at Western Australian Universitiesfor those wishing to further extend their knowledge. Those of you in Perth wil...l likely be familiar with the Digital Tower at Yagan Sqaure however you may not be aware that North Metropolitan TAFE students created an AI project for this tower in partnership with the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority and ScreenWest. This is an excellent example of how TAFE students get to work with industry during their studies. 04.01.2022 Introducing Marcela Molina, one of our Colombian students studying the Advanced Diploma of Fashion Design and Merchandising at South Metropolitan TAFE: "I chose study at TAFE because when I started looking [at] options I found out that TAFE was very practical and I loved that, for me that’s the best way to learn. The best [thing about my course] is the possibility of creating new things and expressing myself through my designs. I undertook a work placement in my first year and that’s the place where I’m currently working. TAFE is the best place to start learning about fashion. All the lecturers are very patient and passionate. That makes you love it. I love living in Perth, it’s a very safe and cultural city, there is a lot of adventure, travelling around is amazing."
