18.01.2022 #CANONCHALLENGE - MILKY WAY COMPOSITIONS This week you have been challenged by community member Ari Rex to go out and capture unique and well composed ima...ges of the Milky Way. "We are so lucky to live in Australia as it has some of the best views of the Milky Way on earth. We can see the most impressive part of the Milky Way most nights of the year and now is the best time for photographing it. My challenge to you is to photograph a nightscape that includes the Milky Way core and a foreground subject. It can be a nice field, a great rock formation, a man made object or even a human figure. You can use whichever techniques you wish. I would love to see great compositions." Post your entries in the comments below!

07.01.2022 #CANONCHALLENGE - As the weathers warming up we are sure many of you are eager to head to the beach and capture some shots of our beautiful Australian coastlin...e. So this weeks Canon Challenge comes from community member Cru Scanlan - Photography - Slow Shutter Speed Seascape Photography I personally love to use slow shutter speeds to capture the water flow of waves as they crash against the shore. It helps to create a sense of motion in the image and simplify the scene of distracting elements. The key is to find an exposure length that smooths out the texture of the water surface without losing the definition of the waves. Shot on a Canon EOS 80D - ISO 100 | F/18 | 1/5s | 10mm Drop your images in the comments below and be sure to include your shot info and gear!

05.01.2022 Celebrating Xavi Bou (Born Barcelona, 1979) If birds left tracks in the sky, what would they look like? For years Barcelona-based photographer Xavi Bou has bee...n fascinated by this question, but of course birds in flight leave no traceat least none visible to the naked eye. Bou had a plan though and he has spent the past five years trying to capture the elusive contours drawn by birds in motion, or, as he says, to make visible the invisible. He began exploring photographic techniques that would allow him to show the beauty of birds in a way not seen before and ultimately he chose to work with a video camera, from which he extracts high-resolution photographs. After he films the birds in motion, Bou selects a section of the footage and layers the individual frames into one image. He finds the process similar to developing film: He can’t tell in advance what the final result will be, but there’s one magical second, he says, when the imagechimerical and surrealbegins to emerge. Before Bou began this project, which he calls Ornitografías, he earned degrees in geology and photography in Barcelona, then worked as a lighting technician in the fashion industry. This current work, he says, combines his passion and his profession. It’s technical, challenging, artistic, and natural. It’s the connection between photography and nature that I was looking for. Ornitografias is the balance between art and science, a project of naturalist discovery, and, at the same time, an exercise of visual poetry.
