24.01.2022 Congratulations to our TAFE NSW Excellence Award Winner from Shellharbour Campus, Lauren Berwick. Lauren is our Health, Wellbeing and Community Services Student of the Year. Wanting to work within the area of child protection, Lauren hopes to help ensure that youth and young children have a chance at not only living a full life, but also to be capable of reaching their full potential. ... To gain the skills and knowledge necessary for the career she desired, Lauren enrolled into the Diploma of Community Services at TAFE NSW Shellharbour. Fully capable of accepting new information that may challenge existing ideas, Lauren is also unafraid of asking questions, or giving her own insight into areas that need to be explored further. An exemplary instance of such, was when Lauren developed a survey for part of her course’s work placement, that was distributed throughout the Kiama community. Her results were then used in various reports, as well as in funding applications and in local council reviews. Congratulations Lauren!

22.01.2022 Today, we celebrated 30 years of the TAFE NSW Gili Awards, which recognise the outstanding achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples across NSW. Congratulations to our 2020 TAFE NSW Gili Award winners who were announced today via a special virtual ceremony. Here are some of the winners and their stories.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to our TAFE NSW Excellence Award Winner from Shellharbour Campus, Katie Clelland. Katie not only won the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year Award, she also won the Higher Education Student of the Year Award. Despite originally lacking the courage to pursue her academic goals, studying at TAFE NSW Shellharbour, Katie has completed a higher education degree. This course developed the confidence to express her passion as an advocate for in...digenous and non-indigenous children from similar backgrounds. Katie has also reached her goal of becoming an Aboriginal director within an early childhood education service. Having developed a strong understanding of child development, and learning enrichment methods through different approaches and curriculum content, Katie has changed the way she approaches early childhood teaching; guiding her to look at children's development from a different perspective. Proud to be the first person in her family to complete a degree, this Wodi Wodi woman has become the caring, passionate, and positive role model, that she hopes can inspire other indigenous students to study with TAFE NSW. Congratulations Katie!

10.01.2022 Some mid-week inspiration: Meet Katie! Katie enrolled in our Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30113) after leaving school and said, with the support of teachers, her passion and confidence grew. Once I started studying, I became so fascinated by early childhood development and how important the first five years are in a child’s brain, that I continued my studies with the diploma and then the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Care (Birth-5) (HE20510V02).
