03.01.2022 How awesome are our graduates... . . 'I love studying at TAFE NSW - St George College of Fine Arts. When I was studying for my Diploma in Visual Arts, I never thought I would meet other inspirational artists. I learnt more about myself and discovered I have more talent than I thought I had. Before I just was a photographer, but I now do performance, video and textile art. I get more work as an Artist Educator for MCA, Art Advisor for Accessible Arts and as an Art consultant ...where I bring a deaf perspective. The course motivated me to achieve my career aspirations in the Arts sector, especially introducing greater deaf perspectives in art and more representation of artists with disability'. @hellosuejo ... 01.01.2022 SATURDAY CERAMIC WORKSHOPS. Introducing the first of a series of Master Class workshops at TAFE NSW - Ceramic Design, Gymea TAFE. East or West -- A Raku Teabowl Workshop with Guest Artist Bruce McWhinney ... The Raku technique, originating in Kyoto Japan, was brought to the west in the 1960’s and adapted to emphasise the spontaneous effects of post-reduction. The original purpose of raku was largely overlooked in the search for low fired surface effects. Returning more to the traditions of Japan, this workshop introduces methods of making tea bowls on the wheel and by hand. We explore the making and firing methods which produce timeless work that is functional and quietly beautiful to hold and use. ARTIST AS MENTOR: The series of workshops will be delivered by Bruce McWhinney an artist primarily using ceramics to explore sculptural form. His work references traditional ceramic techniques and traditions, particularly those of ancient Japan. To learn more about Bruce McWhinney, visit his site at https://www.brucemcwhinney.com/ COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Beginners will develop Handbuilding techniques, Intermediate to Advanced learners can use Handbuilding or Wheel Throwing Techniques to create forms in preparation for Raku Firing. TIMETABLE: Saturday 10:00 am to 15:30 pm (4 weeks) Starting Saturday 7th November 2020. Enrolments will be available soon. Numbers are limited and it's encouraged to register your place to secure your access https://tinyurl.com/y4tjxf9s
