10.01.2022 The North Region 2020 TAFE NSW Excellence Awards were held at TAFE Wollongbar yesterday. Congratulations goes to the very worthy and impressive winners: Harley Norman, Theo Scholl and Molly Phillips. Harley studied a Cert III in Commercial Cookery at TAFE Grafton and attained an amazing 3 awards Tourism and Experience Services Student of the Year; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year and overall Student of the Year. Theo studied the Cert II in Warehousi...ng Operations at TAFE Lismore and received both the Supply Chain and eCommerce Student of the Year and the School based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year. Molly studied the Cert III in Screen and Media at TAFE Kingscliff and received the award for VET in Schools Student of the Year. 06.01.2022 Congratulations Peter Cooley!! Peter has won the Agribusiness student of the year in the 2020 TAFE NSW Gili Awards, which recognise excellence in Aboriginal education and training in TAFE NSW. Peter completed a Certificate III in Production Horticulture - Bushfoods here at TAFE Wollongbar https://www.tafensw.edu.au/bushfoods. He put his skills to good use by launching IndigiGrow, a social enterprise focused on growing and selling bush foods and delivering environmental servic...es. It’s just one of the many amazing community projects he champions as CEO of First Hand Solutions Aboriginal Corporation. 2020 marks the 30th year of the TAFE NSW Gili Awards. Gili (pronounced 'kill-ee') is an Eora word meaning ‘to shine’ and is a very apt name for these awards, as the recipients are a shining examples of excellence. The nominees highlight and celebrate TAFE NSW Aboriginal student achievements, as well as the innovative programs and dedication of TAFE NSW staff members that help empower Aboriginal people and communities every day.
