08.01.2022 Our Students of the Yamba CLC "I have a large backyard for gardening, I enjoy gardening very much, at one point I nearly chose horticulture as a career but because I love fishing so much I chose aquaculture instead of horticulture, now I’ve gone full circle and gardening is my passion. Unfortunately I can’t fish these days because of eye complications. I spend a lot of time gardening, this is my passion, I grow EVERYTHING and from seed, I save seeds and have a seed ban...k for the community garden where I volunteer, some seeds are 2 years old. I have learnt all I know by experience and I do get in trouble from my wife for taking up too much space in the fridge with my seed bank. I have an Aquaculture degree and have travelled the world working in Prawn Farms throughout Asia, Australia and Central America. My role was as a Prawn Farm Technician, responsible for producing larvae for growing ponds, it was very busy work. After being employed in a prawn farm near Caboolture, my work brought me to the Prawn Farm in Palmers Island in 1992 where I worked for 11 years before retiring. I was drawn to TAFE to further study the English Language, I learnt how to read English in School in Taiwan, they teach this from junior high however they don’t teach how to speak, listen or write English. This is what I have learnt at TAFE. The Yamba TAFE facility is very good, I like it, very friendly people and very new and modern. We referred a friend to the TAFE the other day when we ran into her walking home from our days study. When I retired we had a choice of Yamba or going to the city, I’m very glad I chose Yamba, these are the best years of my life here but I do miss my children who live in the city. My daughter’s getting married (his eyes lit up) at the end of the month, it was delayed because of COVID, I need to practice my speech, we don’t see them very often maybe twice a year, they have their lives and careers now. " We very much look forward to seeing some pics of Jose's daughter's wedding! ******************************************* Every week we will share a story on our amazing students that join us here at the TAFE NSW Yamba Connected Learning Centre, studying to improve their future.. We thank each and every one of you for making this such an enjoyable and interesting place to be and for sharing your stories with us! Yamba Community Garden
