05.01.2022 Everyone at the Frankston International, particularly me were devastated by the recent news that our beautiful Joan Hayes had passed away. At 99 years of age Joan had led an amazing life. It wasn’t the dreaded COVID that took her from us, it was just her time. We had all hoped and prayed that she would make 100 and last Christmas she looked so good and was as sharp and quick witted as ever. So now she is reunited with her beloved Cliff, such a wonderful gentleman. Joan & Clif...f would dress up ever Saturday night and join us in Taggarts Restaurant for dinner. They had their table and were the best , most gracious guests I have ever had the privilege to serve in my 35 years in hospitality. Not only Saturday nights but Birthdays, Mother’s days and Christmas’ were celebrated with us where they would invite their extended family with them to help celebrate. We got to know her children and her grandchildren and her great grandchildren as time passed. We mourned at the passing of Cliff and wondered how Joan would cope with out her life long partner but true to her spirit and strength of character Joan continued her tradition of joining us for major celebrations as we opened our restaurant just for her and her loving family on Sunday 30 June just last year to celebrate her 98th. I must admit it was tough every year to come up with a different gift for her, birthday, Mother’s Day and Christmas each year. She loved a champagne cocktail and all of team knew her special preferences with food and drinks . She was Santa’s favourite every year and never missed a Christmas lunch in Taggarts. Although both her and Cliff were loyal Carlton supporters I never held that against her and we enjoyed bragging rights when either Pies or Blues were victorious. Joan always brought a smile to our faces and in 2014 Joan was inaugurated as the one and only life member of Taggarts. Our team were given strict instructions that anything Joan wanted was complimentary. Never to pay for her own food or drinks ever again. Joan you have left an enormous hole in my heart. Mothers Day and Christmas will never be the same again. Rest In Peace beautiful lady. It has been an honour and a privilege to have known you. See more
