25.01.2022 Small or big, macrame can change the feel of a room. I love the romantic vibes and how it can soften a space. And theyre easy to make! If you live in Sydney, would you be interested in a macrame class? Thinking of maybe running one! @ Kellyville, New South Wales

25.01.2022 I havent posted in the longest time, purely out of laziness and a mild hatred for social media (hey, its hard to upkeep!). 24.01.2022 Corridors can be long, and most of the time, quite dark! Heres some tips that I used to bring life to my client (mind you this is in a commercial space, but the same principles apply for homes as well):... 1 If possible add light - you may be thinking how do I do something like that? If you cant knock a wall and put in a window (or in our case there was a courtyard), think about the option of adding a skylight. Light will do wonders to lighten up your hallway and make it feel larger! 2 Use mirrors - Mirrors are the best tool to bouch light through a long space like a hallway. Obviously corridors are a tighter space, so carefully place your mirrors so they wont get knocked, but you can get creative here, as mirrors come in all shapes and sizes! 3 Use bright colours - whether paint or wallpaper, make sure you use light bright paint to help the light bounce off the walls! 4 Flooring - If youre renovating and get the chance, put in tiles or wood flooring, as they help to let the light bounce onto the walls. Theres a big trend for hallway runners, but Im totally against that!! Not only are they a trip hazard as kids run down the hall, but also they absorb light, which makes your corridor feel tiny! Do you have any other tips to make your corridor as bright as you can make it? See more

23.01.2022 As designers we deal with clients of all kinds of budgets! This client had a little bit of budget left over. Originally the kitchen wasnt in the plan, but with the left over funds, we managed to pull something together without breaking the bank! This whole room cost me a couple of hundred!! Budget friendly shops + op shops = the dream for cost effective styling! (not to mention eco-friendly )... Top tip for artworks - I found these hi-res images online for free from Unsplash and printed them out and placed them into inexpensive Kmart Australia frames. Felt my savvy side in its fullness doing this room! See more

23.01.2022 Open spaces can be incredibly tricky to give spaces a specific purpose. When we were converting this garage space into a multipurpose activity room, it needed to serve many different purposes. So you can imagine how important it is to zone the spaces correctly! I used rugs (from Rug Culture and Unitex International), as well as lighting (from Beacon Lighting) to help to create little zones with their unique purposes.... of the photo is a cute little chill out area, with beanbags, a table for games, and a TV on the wall for those movie nights. Also I layered loads of rugs to make it feel super homey and warm! The reason I chose beanbags, is should there be a reason to use all the space, theyre easy to move out of the way. of the photo is a wall storage unit, to hide away all the mess, games, artwork etc. Completely necessary for a space like this which serves multiple purposes! I placed a runner along the width to zone that area without taking too much space from the rest of the space. What do you think about zoning? Have you done it in your own home? See more

23.01.2022 Design is predominantly centred around women - which I love, as they are intune with the emotion behind it! However its also important to remember the guys! Little touches of masculinity in a home dont go awry, and creates an inclusive space for everyone!

21.01.2022 I would love it if you could help vote for me in the local business awards! Just a couple of clicks, and you can vote as many times as you want. Your support is super appreciated! Voting closes Feb 25! https://thebusinessawards.com.au/business/51703/Tailor--Nest

20.01.2022 It’s the little details that count. Like the fact that ‘finsbury herringbone’ table from @globewest has the most gorgeous chevron detail. As designers we have to not only look at the big picture, but also little moments of joy ... My hope is that when a person looks at my work, they see a cohesive scheme, but as they delve deeper, notice little nuances that make it come to life (just like Olaf from frozen!)

20.01.2022 My client-turned-friend, Cristal from lovetails photography, has me contributing pet-friendly interior suggestions monthly on her email list. Head over and find out more!

17.01.2022 I dont know about you, but I love a clean and organised kitchen countertop. The only appliances I like to have on display are a stylish kettle and toaster. Normally I wouldnt display my cookbooks, as I love the counter space to chop chop chop! The things we do for a photo

16.01.2022 The entry went from bland to fab. pretty chuffed with the end result! Although it looks surprisingly simplistic, we actually did a lot of changes:... 1Wall Treatments Painted the main wall a warm blue to inject colour into the room and to greet you with a warm hug of colour . We used the @duluxaus "Snorkel Sea" in low sheen. It threw the right shade of blue to compliment all the different tones of blue in the room, especially the gorgeous custom artwork by @belindanadwieart. We also did a @grahamandbrown wallpaper on the main wall on the left, in "Grasscloth Natural" which provides this woven linen textured wall that is just gorgeous! 2Flooring We changed the flooring from a dark woody laminate to this light beige tile in a lappato finish - best of both gloss and matte! Not to mention all those dirty shoe marks dont show! Everyones dream! 3Zoned the space We created a mini mudroom style zone with the bench right near the entry from the garage. For when the boys come in from outside, they can leave their tradie boots at the door and not track the dirt throughout the home. We also made a "check yourself out" zone before you head out the door. Plus theres the cutest bowl there for you to drop your keys, so you never lose them again! Whats your favourite part of this entry? What part would you use most? See more

14.01.2022 Who says office spaces need to just be for work?! What happens if you want to chill there, or if someone wants to pop in and have a chat while youre working? I am a firm believer of making all spaces useful for many different purposes. For my client, I made one half of the room your typical office, with a desk and chair, and made the opposite corner a little coffee corner.... Not only does it make the space feel more organic, but it also gives her a space away from the stress of her day to unwind (and she can hide away all her coffee items, so it can be her little secret!). This little setup was a gift from her husband. She thought she was just getting a useful office, but cried when she saw what we had done. If you had the space, would you do something like this in your office? If not, I would love to hear what you would do instead! See more

14.01.2022 As a designer, Im constantly on the lookout for new technological innovations that I can place in my clients homes. Why you may ask? Because it makes life easier. It allows for new design techniques. Or its just fun to show off This downdraft rangehood from Miele is a great addition to this kitchen! Not only does it look seriously cool (swipe right for action pics), but it also allowed me to reinvent a typical kitchen design on its head. By installing a ...stovetop into the island, my clients could cook and still feel part of the conversation. And with the downdraft, it doesnt block the view permanently! When youre done, it packs flush to the surface and is tucked out of sight! How handy Im always on the lookout for new tech - whats something youve come across recently thats blown you away?! Would love to see whats out there! @ Sydney, Australia

12.01.2022 I love using a theme and translating it across every part of the room. The gold accent is what I used in this area - all the way down to the gold foil font, and the clasp for the pencil case! Matching doesnt just have to be the same colours, it can be tones or materials!

12.01.2022 I think its so important to do every design decision with intent. I love taking pride in my work, being intentional and thinking about every detail. It is so important in making sure nothing gets missed! Rather than pop a TV up on the wall, as it was in the before pic (swipe right ), I challenged my client to make a feature of the TV - controversial I know! So many designers dont even hang TVs as they dont believe it should be a center piece. However e...ven when its off, the TV looks like its meant to be there, almost like art! Im so happy with how the design worked out, and thanks to the guys at @entelkitchens, they helped my vision come to life! @ Orchard Hills

11.01.2022 Ive been secretly obsessing with our latest project - The Bell Residence. This was truly a project of love and the results are breathtaking Ive been holding off posting this project for a while as @figsandfetaau were doing a feature on me and were showcasing this new project, so I had to keep it hush! ... But with the launch of the 4th edition of the magazine, I can now officially post about my favorite room in the entire home - the dining room! In a few days Ill post the before and afters of the home, and the difference is gobsmacking! Pretty proud of the results! This space has been the heart of the bells family dinners and entertaining for a few months now, and I hear theyre loving it! Im sure theyre using it well (and possibly eating some haggis on it! ) @ Orchard Hills

11.01.2022 So honoured to be appreciated for all our hard work and going above and beyond for our clients! Couldnt have done it without our wonderful clients trust and support!

10.01.2022 Last year I had the pleasure of running my own style showcase at @hillssupercentre in conjunction with @iiconic events. I showcased two teenage bedroom looks with the same base furniture. My top tips from the session were:... 1 plan ahead when buying large staple pieces. Choose a king single or double bed, in a timeless frame that is suitable while your child is young as well as into their teenage years and beyond (you could even turn it into a guest room when they move out!) 2 kids take ownership of their rooms if they are given an input into the styling. Take them shopping, let them know that youre investing money into their room, and youd be surprised at how well they look after it - may even tidy it themselves! 3 dont be afraid to use colours, patterns and prints. After all teens are still YOUNG adults, so let their rooms reflect their youthfulness! Keep your eyes peeled for my other engagements and come along! I know the folks who showed up walked away learning a thing or two (one lady couldnt even believe that I didnt have kids, as I literally was reading her mind and solving her teen angst )

10.01.2022 Ho Ho Ho! I’ve always wanted to have a wreath at Christmas but for whatever reason we never did growing up (that I can remember) and then I was renting and didn’t want to make any holes on the door Flash forward to finally having a place where we can have a wreath, and come to find out all the nice ones were crazy expensive or sold out, and the #diy kits from florists are around $100 a pop! ... I thought I could DIY one, but wasn’t sure what to use for the base. Step in trusty @kmartaus! They are selling these rattan wreaths in the craft section and I thought, why not?! It’s pretty as is, but it’s easy to modify and change up the style every time I hang it! Also its versatile and could work as a seasonal wreath too. So I went ahead and splurged the $4 for the wreath We then used offcuts from the garden (I was pruning all the new growth yesterday ) and a ribbon we saved from a gift...and bobs your uncle! We have a new wreath for the whopping sum of $4! Pretty chuffed with how it turned out!!

07.01.2022 I love making homes flow from the exterior to interior seamlessly. It brings in nature and ties it all together with family life and allows us to really feel grounded. My preference is always to open up spaces and bring these worlds together! What are your thoughts? Open plan or separate rooms?

07.01.2022 If youre anything like me, you have a tonne of ideas for a space and find yourself wanting to put all of them into the space! Sometimes pairing it back is way more effective. Heres some of my tips for creating a clean, effective space:... 1 Write down all your ideas and filter through what would be practical (at the end of the day the space needs to function well). 2Remove anything that is out of your budget, doesnt work with the space, or distracts from features in the room. 3 Make an inspiration board based on other similar spaces and styles that work in there, and then select one style and stick to it (harder than you would think!) 4 Stick to neutral colours. These are timeless and also look clean and less cluttered. For my client, we just paired these chairs and table from @fantasticfurniture with just some simple settings from the local charity shop! Who says you need to break the bank to get the look? Do you have any other tips for creating simplicity? See more

06.01.2022 This kitchen had great bones. One of the main kitchen makers in Australia had come in and designed a kitchen with shaker black matte doors and limited functionality. Plus it was all black and white (swipe across to see before and after images). Needless to say there were so many things wrong! Firstly there was no gradation and textural elements. Secondly the island was far too small, which meant that there was no room for it to be functional. Thirdly ...there was no lighting in the kitchen to highlight architectural elements. So with the help of Joe and the team at @entelkitchens the transformation began! We changed the counter to the @caesarstoneau "rugged concrete" and extended the island on both sides. We removed the white cupboards to the warm woodgrain to break up the harsh black and grey tones and inject the kitchen with some warmth. We also added in some LED strips and spotlights into the kitchen to showcase the detailing in the splashback. Personally I think theres a really fine line to do black and white well . Too much black and its too heavy, too much white and its too boring. Many times when someone is into the black and white look, theyre actually liking the monochrome scale (black-grey-white), as opposed to just solid black and white. Do you prefer the before or the after? by @karensadek_commercial @ Sydney, Australia See more

05.01.2022 I always find that it can be difficult if youre choosing a solid colour as your theme for a room. In interior design we call it a monochromatic scheme (going back to the days I spent studying colour with The Interior Design Institute). These can be tricky to get right without it looking like a solid colour. Or alternatively finding items that have the right colours youre looking for can be equally as difficult!! However Ive found using artwork ...that have all kinds of shades in it is the best way to add that extra wiggle room and forgive any purchase mistakes you may have! These are super easy to make as well, and double up as a fun activity with your kids for their room. Itll be unique, but also will be the cohesive element to your space! If youre down to try to paint your own canvas, put your hand up! See more

05.01.2022 Art is such a great way of adding personality to a space. These artworks are from @41orchard, I just loved the fun element they bring to a living space (as it could be rather serious without them). Also its a chance to add some personality and connection to the space. My clients are of Scottish origin, and what better way than to add an homage to their homeland, in a subtle attribute?!... I love artworks as they can make a large impact, and can completely change the feel of the room in its entirety! Plus the options are endless! Which is your fave cow? Number 1or Number 2? Swipe right to see more!

04.01.2022 Although this project was finished a while ago, I cant get over the use of colour. This was the real first test for me, pushing me out of my comfort zone. Other work I had done had some colour, but maybe used them as an accent colour or two. NOT LIKE THIS ROOM! I was asked to take a boring reception and transform it into something full of life! Talk about a crazy brief! I love how it turned out! The Resene Hullaballoo was the perfect vibrant teal t...o place on the wall, and Mikayla Elizabeth Art made a custom artwork that married everything in perfectly! Just goes to show that when you trust your gut, and push outside of your comfort zone, good things happen! See more

03.01.2022 I have recently been watching Interior Design Masters on Netflix Australia, and they have this challenge to redo dorm rooms and maximise their storage. Ultimately they had different approaches to it, but they all needed to add additional storage. Without giving too much away, the ones that were in the firing line where the ones that didnt have enough storage, and used shop bought storage solutions. ... Custom cabinetry is the best way to maximise the space and storage. I incorporated this window seat for with storage around and underneath to maximise the view and space in this room. See more

03.01.2022 I love the change that this gallery wall did to this tween room! keep reading for more budget design tips! My friend asked me to redo their daughters’ bedroom for her birthday, as she was growing out of her kids bedroom she had before and wanted something more grown up. Being on a limited budget - I focused on areas of biggest change: the feature wall, repositioning the existing furniture, a new bookshelf and rug, and styling choices! It’s amazing what you ...can do for under $500! Being that she had outgrown her pink wall, a different option to repainting the wall was to give it new life and distract from the colour that was there. So rather than make the pink wall the focus (as in the before pictures... swipe right to see ), I make it a backdrop for the new addition of blue to the room! What are your thoughts on budget transformations? I personally love doing one room at a time in a home, as you really can see the change and appreciate it!

03.01.2022 As you probably realized, I actually have a man bun. I’ve been growing it out for around 2 years now and feel like I’ve wore it well ( I hate talking about myself haha ) Honestly with the warmer weather on the way here in Sydney , and the general upkeep my hair needs (shampoo, conditioner, hair masks and Aragon oil, let alone any curling cremes!), I’m really thinking about going back to short hair ... Having long(er) hair has really made me appreciate how the female population must feel! Always having hair on your neck, getting hair in your mouth when you bend over to tie your shoelaces, and don’t get me started on the knots!!! Women (and men with long hair) I salute you! What do you think? Cut it short or keep the bun? Are you team #shorthair or team #manbun ? Comment below

02.01.2022 Blue is so calming and great for an entryway. In the entry I recently did (posted it a couple of posts ago ), I used blue in all different shades to welcome you in, and create a sense of calm when you walk in the door We had this huge wall (around 6m long!) which I covered with the @grahamandbrown wallpaper to give it a textured element. Then I finished the wall off with the most incredible artwork from my artist friend @belindanadwieart ... I literally am obsessed with this artwork! Its actually a funny story, I was helping Bel do some publicity shots for her studio as she was featured on @theblock, and saw this piece in her gallery and knew I had to include it in my next project home! Its called Our Billabong. Bel actually gets all her inspiration from the Australian landscape and the Indigenous peoples of the land! Love that it is rooted in Australian culture! Also excuse my awkward foot in the second photo - it has a mind of its own . @karensadek_commercial @ Sydney, Australia

01.01.2022 Who says youre too old to have fun! This converted garage space now features an arcade area complete with basketball shootout, and a race car machine (off to the right!). It even comes with a neon video games sign - every boys dream!

01.01.2022 Some homes these days dont have built ins in every room. Depending on the amount of stuff you have (sometimes its best to create a built in and hide all the items inside it! ), you may be able to create a New York loft look with open storage! It a great way to create a mood in a room, showcase all your gorgeous clothing, and to be creative with storage baskets and containers! It gives you way more creative license than a built in, and also keeps your... room much bigger (as built ins will take a good 60-90cm depth away from your room, making your room feel tighter and smaller.
