07.01.2022 The 57th Golden Horse Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Director Hou Hsiao-Hsien Presenter: Hirokazu Koreeda When the Golden Horse Film Festival contacted me and asked if I can present this prestigious award to Director Hou Hsiao-Hsien, I accepted it without any hesitation. To be able to stand here today, I spend two weeks in quarantine, but even if I have to quarantine for another two weeks, I would still be happy to accept this honour. ... When I first met Director Hou Hsiao-Hsien, it was 27 years ago. I was in my 20s when I encounter with Director Hou's films. Because of that, I realised here (Taiwan) is also my father's hometown. It made me takes a step further to discover Taiwan and Taiwanese cinemas, which I fell in love with. Later on, when I got to meet Director Hou, I was fascinated by his characteristic and want to get closer to him. That's why I decided to become a filmmaker. We are not blood relatives, but I still think of myself as one of his sons. I believe there are many people around the world like me, is a fan of Director Hou and is attracted by his smile and inspired by his works. Today I stand here to represent all his kids; I'm not going to take this joy myself, either you are here with us tonight or not, please share this joy together."- Hirokazu Koreeda #57 #
