24.01.2022 We have such a dedicated and skilled team of volunteers that assist with Hippotherapy sessions - thank you

24.01.2022 Great group and an innovative way to maintain active social participation in the current situation

24.01.2022 Take the reins has been providing occupational therapy using Hippotherapy since 2010, but my experience with using horses to help people who have disabilities extends back to 1989, as a junior volunteer with Riding for the Disabled WA, now Horsepower. Since that time, I have coached at five centres (including a short time in Darwin), committee member for two different groups, served on state and national committees and presented at numerous workshops. This time dedicated to our fantastic organisation was recently recognised at the Volunteering WA awards for more than 25 years service. Many thanks to Horsepower Australia for the nomination and to all the other amazing people involved in Horsepower make this all possible

23.01.2022 This video was created as an educational piece to document 10 weeks of occupational therapy. A special thanks to Jesse O'Driscoll for producing this video to h...elp families, medical professionals, those in the equine asssited activities and therapies industry, and the general community understand the power of using hippotherapy as one of the possible treatment strategies in a patient's overall plan of care. Stay tunned for Part 2 in the future. See more

08.01.2022 Ashley and Asra are both young ladies who have a diagnosis of autism, and both show strong sensory seeking behaviours that interfere with their interactions with others and the world, impacting their learning and development. But where Ash is a chatty 9 year old, struggling with the social and academic demands of mainstream school, Asras communication is mainly repeating back what someone has said and Asra participates in a highly tailored curriculum with structured support ...for all aspects of her day. Ash and Asra were each referred to occupational therapy using Hippotherapy where, through engaging their sensory and motor systems, the therapist was then able to offer graded social and cognitive challenges for each child to regulate their attention and develop new adaptive responses to the world. Both young ladies showed improvement after their first session. Asra was able to sit for the duration of a hair cut and Ashley was more organised in getting ready for school. Asras endurance and engagement in everyday tasks continued to improve. Ashley increased in her school work output, duration (from 2 minutes at a time to 20 minutes of work) and neatness and was observed to sit like all the rest of the kids during a school assembly. Although it looks simple, the highly graded and controlled challenges afforded in a Hippotherapy treatment result in incredible changes in the client. But these girls are just here to have fun! We have two places available for clients in term 2; if you know anyone like Ashley or Asra who would benefit from occupational therapy using Hippotherapy, please contact for a chat!

07.01.2022 HELP OUR HORSES At this difficult time, we simply can't afford to lose our valuable assistance horses like ex-racehorse Rory (The Good Rev). Horses like him are... one in a million. HorsePower Australia and major partner Community TAB are asking for the local communities help to support our horses by donating what they can. By giving just $7 today, youll help to feed and care for an assistance horse for one more day. Community TAB will be matching the first $5,000 raised through this campaign, helping to ensure the health and wellbeing of HorsePower horses across the state. You can help by making a donation today or creating a crowdraising page of your own to help our horses through this crisis so they can continue to make a difference in the lives of young people like Jessica. "My Aspergers syndrome diagnosis means Im quite anxious when interacting with people, and my assistance horse, Rory has been a great comfort to me during a very stressful time in my life." After finishing high school, spending time with Rory and the team at Horsepower Brigadoon finally gave me the confidence to pass my driving test and gain full-time employment. I still have difficult days and Rory keeps me going. I really miss spending time with him and cant wait to get back! Click here for more information on how you can help our horses https://bit.ly/helpourhorses All donations go to HorsePower Australia (previously RDAWA). Donations over $2 are tax deductible
