NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service are working to make the caves as safe as possible for all visitors to enjoy. South Glory has reopened for self-guided tours, but bookings are essential. Please see further details in posted images or below . @specialized_jo via Instagram #VisitSnowyValleys #ComeFindUs #LoveNSW #HolidayHereThisYear ********************** What is open in the Yarrangobilly Caves precinct in Kosciuszko National Park? South Glory Cave (self-guided) - OPEN (9.30am 4pm) Bookings essential Guided Tours - CLOSED BBQ’s - OPEN* Caves House Accommodation - CLOSED* Visitor Centre - OPEN (9am 5pm) Walking Tracks - OPEN Lookouts - OPEN Thermal Pool - OPEN Toilets/ Amenities - OPEN Cave Loop Road - OPEN Entrance Road - OPEN Exit Road - OPEN Show Caves: Self-guided cave is open while guided tours are commencing shortly. We will keep you updated as we know more. From NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service: Many of our visitors are cave enthusiasts who are eager to get back into nature to explore the many caves at Yarrangobilly. We are working to make our caves as safe as possible for all visitors to enjoy. This involves developing a covid safe plan. Following a risk assessment our self-guided cave, South Glory, has now reopened for visitors to enjoy. This cave is open from 9:30am -4pm daily and the following safety measures have been implemented: 1. Bookings are essential and can be pre- purchased online at; https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au//yarrangobilly-south- 2. Visitors to the cave must practice physical distancing by staying 1.5 metres away from people who are not from their household and are encouraged to wear a personal face mask. 3. Visitors must not attend if they have respiratory symptoms or fever (>37.5C) even if symptoms are mild and will be advised to seek testing immediately and self-quarantine off-site. We understand that caving enthusiasts will be disappointed that we cannot reinstate access to guided caves at this time, but our first priority is public health and safety. However, we are working to develop our COVID Safe plans and hope to have guided tours running again shortly. Your patience is appreciated. *Picnic Area/BBQ’s: Walk in access only, partially repaired The vehicle bridge over Rules Creek and our key BBQ areas were damaged by bushfire in January 2020. The BBQ’s are operating again but the bridge is still damaged, so access is a 200m walk from the parking area. The bridge is due for reinstatement in December 2020. *Caves House Accommodation: Partially reopening December 2020 NPWS follows the advice and requirements of NSW Health regarding the provision of visitor services (including accommodation) during the c-19 epidemic. Our commercial accommodation is currently booked by a private contractor, however in the coming months accommodation will be available from the following dates: Lyrebird Cottage from 4th December 2020. 1901 East and West wings from 12th February 2021. 1917 Guest Rooms from 10th May 2021 All accommodation can be booked using the NPWS website or this link https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au//p/yarrangobilly-area Rainfall events: May result in temporary closure of tracks and trails The fire which swept through the caves precinct was extensive and hard burning, and as a result the vegetation in the area was denuded. Whilst regrowth occurs the hillside areas around the precinct may experience instability as a result of a heavy rainfall event. As result we have enacted a Rainfall Closure policy essentially if rainfall within a 24-hour period exceeds 20mm there will be a temporary closure of all tracks. This policy will impact access to all walking tracks and closure of the following areas: - Thermal pool and thermal pool access road and walking tracks - River Walk track - South Glory track and self-guided cave - Bluff Walk - Castle Cave track Jersey and Jillabenan loop road, access/exit roads to/from the caves precinct and the visitor centre will remain open. This rainfall policy will be reviewed in March 2021. For further information please visit https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au//p/yarrangobilly-area
20.01.2022 Exciting news! We are upgrading our kitchen to make it a safer, more efficient workspace for our staff. Unfortunately, this means that we will be unable to cook hot meals on Tuesday and Wednesday, while the builders are working. ... I will, however, increase our fresh pie order for these two days. Well also have a selection of prepared sandwiches available. We'll also do our best to ensure that coffee is available. This will just need a bit of plumbing ingenuity to get a temporary solution. Please bear with us during this couple of days of disruption and we promise we'll be back, better than ever, in no time. Also, there will be no pizzas on Monday night, as we'll be cleaning out the kitchen in preparation for the work starting on Tuesday.
18.01.2022 Meet Frank, our newest employee. I'm sure you'll all make him very welcome. He's a Tumut boy and I know he loves Talbingo.

16.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who came down to help us celebrate our first year in business. It's been an interesting year, but we made it through. Here's hoping 2021 will be smoother sailing. Keep following us as we continue to develop some more new ideas and initiatives. Thank you to the whole community for your continued support.
15.01.2022 Bottle shop special offer UPDATE: Only 2 slabs left I bought in four slabs of 250ml VB throw-downs for a customer who is not able to get back into town. ... I'm now selling these off for only $50 per carton. Come in and grab yourself a nostalgic bargain - you don't see these very often nowadays. When they're gone, they're gone.
13.01.2022 There will be no Pizza Night tonight. I've got the builders coming back tomorrow, hopefully for the final time, to finish the kitchen. I need to make sure the kitchen is ready for them to make an early start. Normal service will be resumed next week.
12.01.2022 Just a quick reminder that the pop-up stall to discuss the Talbingo Beach Project will be open from 3:30pm until 6:30pm. The team from Snowy Valleys Council are here, setting up, so head on down to find out more and to have your say.
11.01.2022 I'll be closing at 5pm tonight as there have been almost no customers since lunchtime. Also, I won't be doing Fishy Friday tonight. I'm going to take advantage of this lull in trade to have a couple of hours to myself. Don't forget to call in on Sunday for the free sausage sizzle to celebrate our first anniversary of owning the shop. It's been a tough year, but we've survived! Help us to celebrate being part of this wonderful community.
10.01.2022 I have just spent an hour in the bank with my dad, as he had to transfer some money. I couldn't resist myself & asked... ''Dad, why don't we activate your inter...net banking?'' ''Why would I do that?'' He asked... ''Well, then you wont have to spend an hour here for things like transfer. You can even do your shopping online. Everything will be so easy!'' I was so excited about initiating him into the world of Net banking. He asked ''If I do that, I wont have to step out of the house? ''Yes, yes''! I said. I told him how even grocery can be delivered at door now and how amazon delivers everything! His answer left me tongue-tied. He said ''Since I entered this bank today, I have met four of my friends, I have chatted a while with the staff who know me very well by now. You know I am alone...this is the company that I need. I like to get ready and come to the bank. I have enough time, it is the physical touch that I crave. Two years back I got sick, The store owner from whom I buy fruits, came to see me and sat by my bedside and cried. When your mum fell down few days back while on her morning walk. Our local grocer saw her and immediately got his car to rush her home as he knows where I live. Would I have that 'human' touch if everything became online? Why would I want everything delivered to me and force me to interact with just my computer? I like to know the person that I'm dealing with and not just the 'seller'. It creates bonds of Relationships. Does Amazon deliver do all this as well?''' Technology isn't life.. Spend time with people .. Not with devices. 10.01.2022 No pizza night tonight. We've had an equipment malfunction, resulting in the loss of a heap of frozen goods.
10.01.2022 To all of our customers who like to throw a line in, this article will be of interest to you and you too could be contributing to important ongoing research.
09.01.2022 Tried to get the best vantage point for a shot of our gorgeous town over the millpond calm Jounama Poundage. Almost perfect conditions spoiled only by my lack of talent and time
09.01.2022 I admire this view every single morning. Today, I stopped and took time to fully admire it and to photograph it. How lucky are we to live amidst such beauty
08.01.2022 Great Australia Day celebration today, thanks to all of the Talbingo organisers. I've been in Australia for almost sixteen years. I got my citizenship four years ago, and I moved here almost exactly one year ago. I wrote this poem eleven years ago, but this is the first time I've actually had an opportunity to recite it on Australia Day. For anyone who missed it, or for those who heard me recite it, but didn't understand the accent, here's my poem called: Australia Day Barbie... On any given sunny day From the start of June To the end of May You'll see the smoke from miles around And smell the scent and hear the sound Of searing beef and prawns and chooks All burnt to perfection by the weekend cooks This fearless warrior in his VB vest Of all the chefs knows he's the best With spatula, tongs and stubby holder It would take a woman immensely bolder Than a six foot Amazon with arms like Garth To shift this caveman from his hearth It's his domain, this realm of fire Like a primal sacrificial pyre He'll roast an offering to the gods of cooking And chuck on a t-bone without even looking To check if his poor long suffering wife Has ever cleaned the grill In the whole of its life He'll just fire it up and pour on some beer That should keep it going for many a year The layer of carbon and caked on grime Should protect the grill till the end of time He ignores the accumulation of shite With a good old Aussie "she'll be right" When he asks what way you'd like yours done Make no mistake there's only one That's burnt on the outside And raw in the centre As if Hannibal Lecter was his cooking mentor You trust your life to this king of grilling I just wonder if you'd be as willing To ingest his offerings if first you'd known Of the billions of germs that have been growin' Quite freely on his filthy griddle And spreading through that raw prawn's middle Listeria, e-coli and salmonella Are served up by this jolly fella But do not worry, never fear You can kill these bugs with a dose of beer Or a Bundy and coke should do the trick And help prevent you getting sick So crack a tinnie and grab a snag And let’s salute the Aussie flag Just settle back now, that’s the way And have a great Australia Day. 08.01.2022 WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU - TALBINGO DAM BOAT RAMP AREA IMPROVEMENTS Council is keen to get your feedback on the draft plan for the new Talbingo Swimming Area. V...isit our pop-up stall at the Talbingo Shopping Centre on Monday 30 November between 3:30-6:30pm or access the online form and view the plans here https://bit.ly/3fG16gT BACKGROUND Earlier this year co-funding of $1,350,000 ($850,000 from Department of Planning Industry and Environment (DPIE) and $500,000 from Snowy Hydro) was locked in to create a designated swimming area, improved boating facilities, picnic areas, carparking and foreshore access at the Talbingo Dam Boat Ramp. 07.01.2022 NOT A RANT! More a request for dialogue. We've had a lot of notifications via Facebook lately for recommendations for new opening hours. Our current opening hours are the result of months of listening to feedback and assessing our customers' needs against our own requirements. I am always prepared to listen to any ideas, so, if you have a suggestion for changes to our opening hours, and they are appropriate and justifiable, I will listen to them. However, anonymous suggestio...ns via Facebook will simply be rejected, as there is no reason or justification shown - this is a gripe against Facebook, not our customers. I might be a big, gruff, hairy Scotsman, but I'm approachable and reasonable, so come and talk to me, particularly if you have a novel solution that allows me to cut back on my own working hours from the current hundred or so hours per week 51.75 weeks per year. I'd like to get some use out of my golf club membership. END OF NOT A RANT.
