11.01.2022 Last night, Facebook banned a post of a silly stock photo that I shared... in October 2017. I received a sternly worded message that especially ridiculous stock photos violated community standards. Better late than never I guess. The EU is today, proposing legislation that makes it the duty of social and e-commerce mega-sites to remove harmful products and content. With STEEP fines and unprecedented powers if they fail. This is what we all need. It's a great idea in the...ory. The stock photo was so ugly I found it offensive personally. In reality though, if it's even possible... the implications for social media especially... are almost impossible to fathom. Mark Zuckerberg will be forced to become the "conversation police". Those conversations will be handled algorithmically. This means, at least in the beginning, a simple method for picking up keywords. So it doesn't matter if you're yelling FOR or AGAINST... a dictator... bad science... Nazism... all that bad stuff. You'll potentially be caught in the crosshairs. There are eleventy-billion other layers to this... it's a philosophical rabbit hole that just keeps going and going....
