21.01.2022 This valuation of behaviour causes HUGE guilt and stress for parents. It leads us down the path of the "quick fix" and of lost tempers. It causes feelings of sh...ame and inadequacy. Rather than a tantrum being viewed as a developmentally appropriate response for our young child, instead, it has been labelled as a parenting failure. And now that we know better, we must DO better. We must support our village of big people, and get comfortable with the uncomfortable. Remember that your relationship with your child is FAR more important than your relationship with a judgemental stranger. Step in with calm; step in with confidence. The world is going to be a better place because of big people like you.

20.01.2022 ***A BIT OF A LONG STORY BUT WORTH THE READ! PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY*** I have always known that correct angle and positioning of a child in t...heir car seat is crucial but have never had it shown to me in numbers. Recently we had a scary hospital trip with our little Kora who is 2.5 months old. While transferring to a children's hospital she was placed in a child restraint that was installed at an incorrect angle (far too upright) and also had her bum too far forward in the seat causing her to slump. This obviously concerned me but at this point I just wanted my baby to be healthy and didn't have time to give the paramedics a car seat lesson. Not too long into the journey the paramedic became concerned and decided that Kora needed oxygen, when I asked her why she showed me the monitor screen and said that her oxygen levels were steadily dropping. 99%... 98%... 97%... 96%... The paramedic had just got the oxygen tubes on her and was about to turn it on when I chimed in. "Do you mind if I correct her position in the seat by pushing her bum back a bit? It may bring her chin off her chest and open up her airway" She so kindly let me adjust her. We both turned to the monitor... 96%... 97%... 98%... 99%! This was proof! Right in front of my eyes! No oxygen was required! ***************************************** Positional asphyxiation is no joke, it is mostly connected to prolonged use of a capsule because they tend to be more bucket shaped but it can just as easily happen in a car seat that is not at the correct angle or is not being used correctly causing head flop. Little children's airways are easily compromised so we always want to ensure their chik is never pressed down into their chest, this could cut off their oxygen. If you are struggling with headflop try these things: check the angle is correct (45 degrees while rear facing) scoop their bum back into the seat check the harness is the correct height (at or above the shoulders while rear facing) make sure the harness is free of twists and tight enough to pass the pinch test ensure there is no removeable head padding that may be pushing their head forward If you are still struggling with head flop contact a child restraint installer for assistance ***************************************** HAVE YOU EVER DEALT WITH HEAD FLOP? HOW DID YOU CORRECT IT?
