21.01.2022 Ok, now I wish I had a magic wand that I could wave that helps kids suddenly learn how to talk. But, that’s just not possible, and I think it’s important for pa...rents to know this BEFORE starting early intervention. Now, do some kids pick it up really quickly and start talking pretty soon after starting therapy? Of course! But, for the majority of kids- speech therapy takes time- and most importantly effort! And when I say effort, I mean by the SLP, the child, and the family/caregivers! So if you don’t see immediate changes a few weeks or a month into therapy, that’s to be expected. Also, if you have not seen progress after months of therapy, please ask your therapist because many times there is progress being made that’s not easily observable to parents (like preverbal skills, nonverbal skills, and AAC)! 17.01.2022 Important information for all of our families who have upcoming scheduled plan reviews. Participants who are due for a scheduled plan review, and have a curren...t plan that meets their needs will be offered a renewal of their current plan budget for up to 24 months. The length of the plan will depend on the participant’s needs and their situation. This will mean they will able to get a new plan without having to have a face-to-face meeting. 08.01.2022 Just recently I saw someone say, I wouldn’t even think twice about speech therapy until 4/5 in response to a concerned parent with a child who was not talking...!! 1. These comments can have lasting negative impacts for a child’s whole life if the parent were to take this advice and 2. Kids start kindergarten at 5- how could a child possibly be successful in school if they are just learning to communicate at that time?!? Let’s normalize evaluations and intervention by encouraging others to seek help when needed! See more
