20.01.2022 Positions in the computer and IT field are projected to increase at the faster-than-average rate of 12 percent through 2024, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Whats more is the BLS reports the median annual salary for these jobs in 2015 was $81,430, which is more than twice the national average of $36,200.* https://www.rasmussen.edu//how-to-break-the-experience-ba/

16.01.2022 Smart textiles Its not just for sustainabilitys sake that fabrics are developing at such an impressive rate, though. Scientists at the prestigious MIT in Boston have developed a way to weave technology into the fibres of clothing, and brands like New Balance and Bose are already looking to design new generations of smart clothes. It might sound like tech for techs sake, but these new smart fabrics are already being considered in the business and educational worlds. For... example, at the latest Augmented World Expo this year, conference attendees could be identified using an app on their smartphone which connected to the fibres in the bags attendees were given. Giving more examples of how this technology could be applied to the real world, the Advanced Functional Fabrics of America organisation shared the following examples: Following developments in self-driving cars, clothing and cars could communicate to ensure that the cars networks can identify people more accurately, so avoiding collisions. Clothing that could be an aid for blind people, but converting light into energy to produce vibrations to give directions. This also ties in with the current market demand for personalisation. Clothing can be programmed to share as much or as little information as the wearer wants, and can function according to their personal needs. With these developments already underway, theres definitely exciting things to come for fashion, and it might well be sooner than we think. https://www.purelondon.com//newsletter-8-future-fabrics-in

14.01.2022 MY MISSION: To demystify Gaming for Luddites Scientists believed that dyslexics had a deficiency with their eyes, but Tallal suspected that instead their brains were too slow in processing sound. "People thought dyslexia had something to do with seeing letters backwards," says Tallal. "However, words are made of smaller units of sound represented by letters. It was becoming clear that the majority of dyslexic children find it difficult to be aware that words can be broken dow...Continue reading

12.01.2022 Natural alternatives Pineapple leaves, wine pulp, and fish scales. None of these might scream fashion to you, but plenty of designers have been jumping on the bandwagon and getting creative with their sourcing. Using natural resources (responsibly, of course) and by-products from other industries, a number of sustainable alternatives are already on the radar: Pinatex this is a form of sustainable leather made from recycled pineapple leaves. Its quite hardy and can be use...d for clothing and upholstery. Pirarucu leather otherwise known as fish scales. This is a traditional material that has been used by Amazonian tribes for centuries. It is a by product of the pirarucu fish, which is caught primarily for its meat. It is a softer, thinner leather and is mainly used for bags, shoes and accessories. Vegea made from wine pulp, a by-product of wine production, vegea is a vegan leather alternative which is mainly used to create accessories. Barktex this is a fleece made from the bark of fig trees. Its a low impact material that has great insulation properties and can be used n thermal clothing. Lyocell an alternative to the water-reliant cotton, lyocell is made from wood chips and, like cotton, is incredibly versatile. https://www.purelondon.com//newsletter-8-future-fabrics-in

11.01.2022 KATAPULT COLLECTION I am looking for evidence to support my theory: of being able to capture braincell activity such as smell, taste and touch, and then store the activity in data, translate and transmit the information through The Brainwave Transmitter. The following uses seem most probable: It would be used to enhance the entertainment experience environment such as TV and Film, by not just transmitting visual and audio output, but with The Brainwave Transmitter other... senses can be emitted such as smell, taste and touch. I have been theorising The Brainwave Transmitter since 2014, and believe it will assist many people suffering from medical conditions such as paralysis, disability, memory loss, and pain by transmitting healthy mind activities of desirable subjects, such as athletes, great thinkers, happy people etc. Travel can be experienced at a distance through Brain cell transmission. The Brainwave Transmitter will be a totally noninvasive medical intervention. Another possibility is in the context of education, to provide students with other forms of learning and experiencing the world. Just like in the movies, actors and actresses are kept alive forever, so too would the desirable subject remain forever embedded in our memories after they pass away. They can be sensory actors. I have no relevant industry expertise so leave the rest for the experts to ponder. I will keep looking for the knowledge I seek. If Edison, Nipce, and Baird were alive today, surely they would be tempted to invent "The Brainwave Transmitter".

10.01.2022 MY MISSION: To demystify Gaming for luddites. With an estimated 97 percent of adolescents playing video games in their free time, there is growing potential to design games as tools for attention-building instead of attention-busting. Here, we trained young people with Tenacity (a breath-counting game) and tested them with another unrelated attention task in the lab. We found that brain changes following two weeks of gameplay were associated with improvement in the performa...nce on that unrelated attentional task. The project reflects a larger trend toward developing games for the greater good, says Constance Steinkuehler, a professor of informatics at UCI, who led creation of the game while at UWMadison. 09.01.2022 Delaying a reward rather than instant gratification helps children make better choices. Children and adolescents are especially prone to short-term thinking. For example, Bettinger and Slonim (2007) find that more than 43 percent of children (aged 5 to 16) in their sample made choices in line with hyperbolic discounting. When asked to choose between a $10 gift certificate to be distributed immediately after the experiment or a larger amount (up to $25) in 2 months, these chi...ldren picked the immediate reward. When asked to evaluate a similar trade-off where the $10 gift certificate was distributed in two months or the same larger amount in 4 months, these children choose the later. Bettinger and Slonim (2007) also find that more than 25 percent of children choose options inconsistent with any type of rational behaviour, but that these irrational choices were less likely to occur among older children. #childreneducation http://ftp.iza.org/dp8853.pdf

07.01.2022 Digital Artscape All about DMT (Digital Mental Transposition) Digital Mental Transposition (DMT) is a living environment controlled by emotions that will be exposed for the first time during the Nuit Blanche in Paris by In Dialog Collective.... DMT is an space where your can let your inner self become the drivetrain of your environment, where your emotions trigger unique shapes and landscapes generated specifically to fit yourself. You are able to establish an immersive empathic dialog with your surroundings, which will accordingly reply with specific movements and projections. https://wemakeit.com/projects/digital-mental-transposition

07.01.2022 Why people can post pity stories about animals dying from choking when we kill millions of them every day is just hypocritical to me. Hmm, nice to care about a calf dying from consuming a balloon when More than 300 million cows were killed for food in 2016 (Bas Sanders). More than 200 million animals are killed for food around the world every day just on land. We are tackling the biggest issue of animal cruelty on the planet. (Matthew Zappa) Worldwide, about 70 billion farm... animals are now produced for food each year (did this guy really say that?) ; two out of every three being factory farmed. Kept permanently indoors; caged, crammed or confined. Treated like production machines rather than individual sentient beings, (a well fed world). New Zealand, Australia and Brazil are in the top list when we look at per capita numbers, (Bas Sanders). Eat him and forget crying over one baby cow. We are guilty of killing animals for food, unless we are vegetarian . Then we are guilty of killing plants for food. Which I wont accept. This is why I am a preferred pescatarian because I have to eat and I can deal with killing fish better than killing beautiful animals. Dont have kids either, to prevent further consumption. If the human race dies off killing will continue because evolution made it that way. Remember animals other than humans eat too. Description"Survival of the fittest" is a phrase that originated from Darwinian evolutionary theory as a way of describing the mechanism of natural selection. The biological concept of fitness is defined as reproductive success. Unfortunately for animals, our intelligence and herd mentality make us the fittest of all living species. https://sentientmedia.org/how-many-animals-are-killed-for-/ https://faunalytics.org/global-cow-slaughter-statistics-an/ https://www.ciwf.org.uk///ciwf_strategic_plan_20132017.pdf https://www.slideserve.com/blanca/survival-of-the-fittest

06.01.2022 Creating the illusion of male elitism has its base in the formative years. Both men and women treat boys as more special than girls. A consequence of this elitism can be seen every day , just look at the way girls doll themselves up and photograph themselves yearning for attention . Both men and women are responsible for a severely distorted social norm . Hollywood has a lot to answer for in reinforcing these distorted truths . #distortedtrurhs https://www.google.com.au//most-misogynistic-films-of-/amp

04.01.2022 Interesting read for racist bigotry and xenophobia The excerpt below is written by Tom Oliver, Professor of Applied Ecology at the University of Reading, UK, in The Conversation. Humans are the most cooperative species on the planet all part of a huge interconnected ecosystem. We have built vast cities, connected by a global nervous system of roads, shipping lanes and optical fibres. We have sent thousands of satellites spinning around the planet. ... Yet we can also be surprisingly intolerant of each other. If we are completely honest, there is perhaps a little bit of xenophobia, racism, sexism and bigotry deep within all of us, if we would only allow it. Luckily, we can choose to control and suppress such tendencies for our own wellbeing and the good of society. https://www.google.com.au//is-racism-and-bigotry-in-our-dn

03.01.2022 World Without Water - WWW I remember trekking through The Larapinta Trail in Australias Northern Territory in 2017. We trekked 223km in the blistering heat over a period of 12 days. What became the most important issue was managing our survival. We were five fellow travellers and we all approached our trip differently, strategising our every need. A balance between the weight of our backpack and having enough supplies and using resources available to us. Particularly, Wate...r the most precious resources of all. One couple brought everything to make their trip as leisurely as possible, but Howie packs weighed over 20kilos. Another traveller, lived on nuts and dehydrated meals and unreliable shoes. We planned on keeping our back pack to 10kilos, separating ever meal and snack to avoid carrying unnecessary supplies, sharing tent, jetboil, cloths and food. Water was guaranteed by the Larapinta Trail. However, two stops had no water and we needed to cater for that. Scary thought was if national park, Larapinta Trail did not replenish the water. Now I think about my experience and our modern day concerns, such as population growth, food and water supplies. How large can our population get before mother nature can supply us I wonder. Can we create more water than there is available? Will we kill each other over water. Some people have been asking these questions 30 years ago. Can water shortages cause wars? Lets look at the case study below the India and Pakistan water tension. The Indus Waters Treaty has done a remarkable job managing India-Pakistan water tensions, says Michael Kugelman, Deputy Director of the Wilson Centers Asia Program. After all, India and Pakistan have fought multiple wars, but theyve never fought a war over water. Yet Kugelman observes that Indias status as the upper riparian may give it the potential to use the treaty as a pressure point against Pakistan. Just a few months ago, India threatened Pakistans water supply in retaliation for a suicide bombing carried out by a Pakistan-based terrorist group that killed more than 40 Indian police officers in Kashmir. And in fact, India has, at multiple points in the treatys history, threatened to withdraw from the treaty. For Islamabad, the nightmare scenario would be a decision by New Delhi to revoke the treaty at a time of deep tensions in India-Pakistan relations, says Kugelman. Even the mere threat of revoking the treaty would be enough to send shock waves through Islamabad. This is because backing out of the accord would give India carte blanche to stop the Indus RiverPakistans most important water sourcefrom flowing downstream.
