17.01.2022 PUBLIC RALLY - AGAINST RIDONG DEVELOPMENT DATE CLAIMER This rally will be held on either Saturday 14 or Sunday 15 December at 9.00 am- before it gets too hot. ... To be confirmed next week! Venue: we are hoping will be Coplicks Sports Ground, Connection Road. START WORKING ON YOUR PLACARDS NOW! We want 1,000 locals and Gold Coasters from other regions to be present. Our Valleys are a City asset, not just a local asset!!! Remember, the Mayor said categorically on ABC radio, as an engineer, mate, there will be no building on our floodplain. However, subsequently, he has said anyone who relies on that statement in the context of the interview has misrepresented him!!! This is what we are up against! We are in serious risk of our valley being butchered like Palm Beach!! Jim Wilson Solicitor Chair - Save Our Southern Valleys - Stop Ridong!!!
16.01.2022 When I was in high school I had a large group of girlfriends that I would sit with. One day, I went and got my sandwich and headed to the courtyard to s...it down. All of the girls were sitting in a circle and nobody moved to let me join. So I sat down behind one of the girls and began to eat my lunch. I was very confused. The leader of the group soon came over to me and said ‘Ummm Alex, we need to talk’ And I remember looking up at her as she stood over me. ‘We are ‘us’ and you are ‘you’’ All of the other girls watched on. ‘And you’re not really pretty enough to sit with us, ok’ Without saying anything, I got up off the ground and wrapped up my sandwich before walking by myself to the back oval where nobody could see me. And I cried. I feel as though many parts of the horse world can make people feel like this too. And I feel it so deeply when, literally DAILY, I am sent messages or told in person about how someone at an event laughed at someone else who rode on the left lead around a right circle. Or how at a clinic nobody sat with the person who ate different food to them. Or how ‘constructive advice’ came out at pony club like this - ‘you know she’s probably not good enough for that horse’. Or how someone has trained for years for a competition that they’ll never go to because they are afraid of being judged by their weight. I feel it. On a soul level, I feel it. After my ordeal that day (one that happened over a decade over ago and yet I still hold onto it), a girl from the group came out and sat with me. ‘I don’t want to be friends with girls who make people feel like that’ she said to me. And to this very day, she is one of the kindest, wisest friends I have. I urge everyone to be like her. To see the person who clearly knows nobody at a clinic and simply go over and ask ‘where abouts have you travelled from?’ Or to see the rider learning in public and go over after and say ‘your horse is super slick looking! What are you feeding him?!’ Be the person who sees a rider at pony club who is riding their 12hh pony with 6ft youth legs (so jealous, I am!!) and remark on how if you had that pony you’d never give him up either! Be the one that sprinkles a little magic wherever you go. Because just like I remember the girl who made me question my worth that day, I also remember the girl who followed me out to the oval to remind me that she was wrong

04.01.2022 URGENT Heres a template of a letter you can all email to the Chairperson of the Economy, Planning and Environment Committee - copy paste and email TODAY! Amend ...as you see fit and forward, share, please ADD your address 3 December 2019 Cr C M Caldwell Chairperson Economy, Planning and Environment Committee [email protected] Dear Cr Caldwell Re: Ridong (Australia) International Pty Ltd, Development Application Number: COM/2018/47 Location: Lot 11 SP203381, 49 Tallebudgera Connection Road, Tallebudgera 4228 I am a member of a concerned group of Tallebudgera Valley residents who, while we are relieved Council announced it would delay a decision on the inappropriate proposed Ridong development until the new year, would like your commitment that no decision in support of this proposed development is made without more rigorous assessment and meaningful community consultation. We were disappointed to see changes to the environmental overlay and zoning in the draft City Plan amendment, clearly aimed at enabling this and other development in the Valley. And we were shocked to see the SARA conditions issued by the State government, which failed to consider the more than 300 submissions made on the proposed development and the actual issues related to traffic, koalas and flooding. Indeed, it appears that not all agencies that should have been triggered even provided conditions. As you may be aware, the Save our Southern Valleys and Save the Tallebudgera Valley Koala groups are planning a Death of the Valley Rally on Saturday, December 15th. In only a few short days, we have already secured enormous support including some 2600 signatures (and growing) on a petition to stop this development. We want the ability to have real input into the decisions being made about the area in which we live. I ask that the EPE Committee defer a decision on the development until a wide range of outstanding issues are addressed, in consultation with the community including, in particular, the following: Scale and intensity: the proposed development is inconsistent with the City Plan and of a scale and intensity totally incompatible with the zoning, character, amenity and safety of users of the area. The increased traffic movements alone are of great concern for local sporting facilities, nearby schools, horse riders and road users, not to mention the number of koala deaths on Tallebudgera Connection Road that residents have been raising for some two years asking for reduced speed limits. This type and scale of development will only lead to more local disruption, risks to users, calls to widen the road and continuing koala deaths. Simply put, Ridong does not belong. Wildlife: whilst the proponent-led application process failed to identify koalas on site, it is well known to local residents as a movement corridor and it is not unusual to see koalas on that site and adjacent sites (as evidenced by koala road strikes). The Burleigh to Springbrook Hinterland bioregional wildlife corridor is a key corridor for viable populations of wildlife, including the koala. In fact, it is the last remaining viable population of koalas not threatened with intensive development, until now. The corridor’s importance has been established by a number of Council reports and has, consequently, been protected by the Council through successive planning schemes. The Ridong development (coupled with the proposed changes in the City Plan amendments), will erode the corridor’s values, and changes in use will impact on the very wildlife it protects. We don’t want our wildlife to be Ridong’s roadkill. Flooding issues: The proposed development is on a flood plain. Residents remember well the horrific impacts of Ex-tropical Cyclone Debbie in 2017 across the Tally Valley. We have yet to see that detailed flood modelling has been completed, or that, as local residents, such a development built up to protect its interests will not adversely impact on ours. Council has said it won’t develop on flood plains so don’t allow development on ours. I note your final Economy, Planning and Environment Committee is held this week, and that you will not meet again until towards the end of January, making meaningful community consultation difficult over the Christmas holiday season. I ask that you, therefore, please delay any consideration of the application until well into 2020, to allow appropriate and meaningful consultation with the community. In the meantime, you may wish to join us for our Death of the Valley Rally on 15 December. Please don’t hesitate to contact me on (your phone number) if I can provide you with any further information.
