24.01.2022 PUBLIC RALLY - AGAINST RIDONG DEVELOPMENT DATE CLAIMER This rally will be held on either Saturday 14 or Sunday 15 December at 9.00 am- before it gets too hot. ... To be confirmed next week! Venue: we are hoping will be Coplicks Sports Ground, Connection Road. START WORKING ON YOUR PLACARDS NOW! We want 1,000 locals and Gold Coasters from other regions to be present. Our Valleys are a City asset, not just a local asset!!! Remember, the Mayor said categorically on ABC radio, as an engineer, mate, there will be no building on our floodplain. However, subsequently, he has said anyone who relies on that statement in the context of the interview has misrepresented him!!! This is what we are up against! We are in serious risk of our valley being butchered like Palm Beach!! Jim Wilson Solicitor Chair - Save Our Southern Valleys - Stop Ridong!!!

24.01.2022 11:20AM 21/2/19 TC OMA UPDATE - Tropical Cyclone Oma has officially entered Australian waters now. This makes it the 4th tropical cyclone of the 2018-19 Season ...for Australia. As a result of this, an official Tropical Cyclone WATCH has been issued for areas between Ballina and Bundaberg. What this means is that GALES (i.e. strong to damaging winds) are expected to develop within the next 24-48 hours (i.e Friday or Saturday). This DOES NOT mean a Cyclone landfall is likely. It merely states that GALES are expected to develop. Abnormally high tides and hazardous to dangerous surf conditions leading to waves of 5-8m and some beach erosion is expected along Coast areas between Fraser Island and the Northern Rivers of NSW as well over the weekend and into the early part of next week. Image: RAMMB / CIRA - Current TC Track expectations in the purple line, TC Watch Zone in the red with major towns listed. 14.01.2022 URGENT Heres a template of a letter you can all email to the Chairperson of the Economy, Planning and Environment Committee - copy paste and email TODAY! Amend ...as you see fit and forward, share, please ADD your address 3 December 2019 Cr C M Caldwell Chairperson Economy, Planning and Environment Committee [email protected] Dear Cr Caldwell Re: Ridong (Australia) International Pty Ltd, Development Application Number: COM/2018/47 Location: Lot 11 SP203381, 49 Tallebudgera Connection Road, Tallebudgera 4228 I am a member of a concerned group of Tallebudgera Valley residents who, while we are relieved Council announced it would delay a decision on the inappropriate proposed Ridong development until the new year, would like your commitment that no decision in support of this proposed development is made without more rigorous assessment and meaningful community consultation. We were disappointed to see changes to the environmental overlay and zoning in the draft City Plan amendment, clearly aimed at enabling this and other development in the Valley. And we were shocked to see the SARA conditions issued by the State government, which failed to consider the more than 300 submissions made on the proposed development and the actual issues related to traffic, koalas and flooding. Indeed, it appears that not all agencies that should have been triggered even provided conditions. As you may be aware, the Save our Southern Valleys and Save the Tallebudgera Valley Koala groups are planning a Death of the Valley Rally on Saturday, December 15th. In only a few short days, we have already secured enormous support including some 2600 signatures (and growing) on a petition to stop this development. We want the ability to have real input into the decisions being made about the area in which we live. I ask that the EPE Committee defer a decision on the development until a wide range of outstanding issues are addressed, in consultation with the community including, in particular, the following: Scale and intensity: the proposed development is inconsistent with the City Plan and of a scale and intensity totally incompatible with the zoning, character, amenity and safety of users of the area. The increased traffic movements alone are of great concern for local sporting facilities, nearby schools, horse riders and road users, not to mention the number of koala deaths on Tallebudgera Connection Road that residents have been raising for some two years asking for reduced speed limits. This type and scale of development will only lead to more local disruption, risks to users, calls to widen the road and continuing koala deaths. Simply put, Ridong does not belong. Wildlife: whilst the proponent-led application process failed to identify koalas on site, it is well known to local residents as a movement corridor and it is not unusual to see koalas on that site and adjacent sites (as evidenced by koala road strikes). The Burleigh to Springbrook Hinterland bioregional wildlife corridor is a key corridor for viable populations of wildlife, including the koala. In fact, it is the last remaining viable population of koalas not threatened with intensive development, until now. The corridors importance has been established by a number of Council reports and has, consequently, been protected by the Council through successive planning schemes. The Ridong development (coupled with the proposed changes in the City Plan amendments), will erode the corridors values, and changes in use will impact on the very wildlife it protects. We dont want our wildlife to be Ridongs roadkill. Flooding issues: The proposed development is on a flood plain. Residents remember well the horrific impacts of Ex-tropical Cyclone Debbie in 2017 across the Tally Valley. We have yet to see that detailed flood modelling has been completed, or that, as local residents, such a development built up to protect its interests will not adversely impact on ours. Council has said it wont develop on flood plains so dont allow development on ours. I note your final Economy, Planning and Environment Committee is held this week, and that you will not meet again until towards the end of January, making meaningful community consultation difficult over the Christmas holiday season. I ask that you, therefore, please delay any consideration of the application until well into 2020, to allow appropriate and meaningful consultation with the community. In the meantime, you may wish to join us for our Death of the Valley Rally on 15 December. Please dont hesitate to contact me on (your phone number) if I can provide you with any further information. 12.01.2022 If anyone can help

12.01.2022 Take your time, get the basics really good. It might seem like this stage takes forever. Do as many repetitions as your horse needs. Then all of a sudden it all "clicks", everything falls into place. Advanced training is just basics done really well.

11.01.2022 Happy Valentines Day!

11.01.2022 Clicker Training Dressage Horses Q: Can you train a dressage horse with clicker training? A: Yes! Here is a pic of my warmblood horse Joey who was first in h...is dressage test last weekend with a score of 76.3% Q: You cant click while you are in the competition arena so why would you train with a clicker, wont the horse want to stop and look for food in the test? A: We use the clicker to teach a new behaviour or improve a response. Once the behaviour is established and reliable you can phase the clicker out so you wont need to be clicking while you are in the competition because the horse will have already learned all the behaviours it will need for that event. You should be training a level above what you compete so that when you go out to a competition where there is a lot of distractions the horse will be performing movements and behaviours that have a strong history of reinforcement and the horse is very confident with. You are not allowed to ride with a whip at a national or international dressage event, yet many people use a whip in training to teach the horse to do the movements correctly. Clicker training is a different way of motivating and communicating with the horse using a marker signal and positive reinforcement. We use the clicker in training but by the time we get to the competition arena the training should be already done. Q: I notice you use the clicker and rewards in the warm up arena, why do you do that? A: In the warm up arena I want my horse to be relaxed and confident so I click and mark some movements that the horse is familiar with this helps the horse to focus on me and to relax in the distracting competition environment. In the warm up arena I also like to click and reward a few of the movements that will be in the test. This means the horse will be really confident about the movements in the test since it recently was rewarded for these behaviours. Q: Will the horse try to stop and get a treat during the test? A: No, the clicker trained horse will not try to stop and get a treat during a test because there will be no click during the test. The horse is really confident at the level it is competing at and can do all the movements for a duration anyway. The horse will try really hard with all the movements just in case there is a click. Q: What if someone in the crowd was to click would the horse stop? A: It is a good idea to train your clicker trained horse around other horses that are also clicker trained, this way the horse will learn to tune into you and your click and will tune out the sound of clicks that are for other horses. The horse also reads your posture, energy and intention and these are other signals that tell the horse if the click means they are getting a reward. Clicker training is not only the most ethical training method but it is also the most effective way to teach a horse to be a really motivated, keen participant in the training process. Clicker trained horses are calmer, more focused and try harder than those trained with traditional classical training alone. I have ridden dressage horses with and without a clicker. I find that the horses are much happier when clicker trained and they also try harder. Dressage training is also easier with a clicker because we can communicate with the horse precisely when they get it right. There is no downside to training dressage horses with clicker training, only benefits. It is only a matter of time before clicker training is mainstream in the dressage community. 08.01.2022 FLOOD MODELLING - Committee Met with Gold Coast City Council today. This afternoon members of the committee were afforded an opportunity to meet with staff from... City of Gold Coasts (CoGC) flooding and planning teams. The purpose of this meeting was for CoGC to detail some of the aspects of councils flood model that had been provided to Ridongs flooding/planning consultant. CoGC were able to confirm the flood model has not been calibrated against the 2017 flood event (the model has been calibrated against earlier flood events between 2000-2015). However, model has been assessed against the 2017 flood event, and was adequately able to replicate both the flooding and water levels recorded during this event and hence CoGC are satisfied with the confidence in councils flood model without requiring further calibration ( including an inflowing- tropical- low created higher tide, which was not the case in 2017.) Please note, CoGC were unable to comment on Ridongs application of the model, as this is still being reviewed by Councils flooding and planning teams. In addition, the committee was able to raise a number of concerns in relation to the sites flood assessment, including: the way in which the proposed development site floods and subsequently drains under the influence of both storm tide and catchment flooding; whether Ridongs flood modelling had accounted for the tidal connection/exchanges with Tallebudgera creek which are proposed to manage water quality; considerations of groundwater and their impacts on flood levels etc. In short, the committee still has a number of concerns with Ridongs flood assessment. CoGC have noted these concerns and advised the committee that they will take these concerns into consideration as part of their review of Ridongs flood assessment. We also strongly encourage everyone to raise any concerns they have with the sites known and potential flooding as part of their submission, along with the plethora of other grounds on which this project can be objected to. Please remember that public submissions on the DA close on 31st January and we would encourage EVERYONE to make a submission on the proposed development, if you havent already. We would like to thank CoGC and their staff for making themselves available for todays meeting. Finally, and unfortunately, we have been informed by Council that, despite representations to the contrary by Council Planning staff attending our first public meeting, our community will now not be able to discuss with Council staff in a public meeting, how the flood model has been applied, before a decision is made by Council one way or the other and the matter is referred to Councillor - attended planning meetings for approval or otherwise. Instead, the Committee will liaise with Council, before the matter goes to councillor planning meetings and we will be given ONE WEEK to meet and discuss the modelling that is going to Councillors and, if we have concerns, then we will need to raise them with our local councillor!! Accordingly, we may have to call an urgent future meeting with short notice, to get community feedback! This is what we were trying to avoid at all costs! Special thanks to the 4 SOSV Committee members who attended, as the conversation was very much a pooling of Committee concerns and ideas on behalf of our wonderful community. Regards Jim Wilson solicitor- Resident of Tallebudgera Chair SOSV- Stop Ridong

06.01.2022 When I was in high school I had a large group of girlfriends that I would sit with. One day, I went and got my sandwich and headed to the courtyard to s...it down. All of the girls were sitting in a circle and nobody moved to let me join. So I sat down behind one of the girls and began to eat my lunch. I was very confused. The leader of the group soon came over to me and said Ummm Alex, we need to talk And I remember looking up at her as she stood over me. We are us and you are you All of the other girls watched on. And youre not really pretty enough to sit with us, ok Without saying anything, I got up off the ground and wrapped up my sandwich before walking by myself to the back oval where nobody could see me. And I cried. I feel as though many parts of the horse world can make people feel like this too. And I feel it so deeply when, literally DAILY, I am sent messages or told in person about how someone at an event laughed at someone else who rode on the left lead around a right circle. Or how at a clinic nobody sat with the person who ate different food to them. Or how constructive advice came out at pony club like this - you know shes probably not good enough for that horse. Or how someone has trained for years for a competition that theyll never go to because they are afraid of being judged by their weight. I feel it. On a soul level, I feel it. After my ordeal that day (one that happened over a decade over ago and yet I still hold onto it), a girl from the group came out and sat with me. I dont want to be friends with girls who make people feel like that she said to me. And to this very day, she is one of the kindest, wisest friends I have. I urge everyone to be like her. To see the person who clearly knows nobody at a clinic and simply go over and ask where abouts have you travelled from? Or to see the rider learning in public and go over after and say your horse is super slick looking! What are you feeding him?! Be the person who sees a rider at pony club who is riding their 12hh pony with 6ft youth legs (so jealous, I am!!) and remark on how if you had that pony youd never give him up either! Be the one that sprinkles a little magic wherever you go. Because just like I remember the girl who made me question my worth that day, I also remember the girl who followed me out to the oval to remind me that she was wrong
