25.01.2022 Things have been overwhelming to say the least for us all the last few months on a global scale, and for me personally. . I have a son, now 8yo who has special needs ( ADHD/ SPD / anxiety). Mr 8s Dad and I separated when he was only 15 months and I have been the main carer. . It was at the beginning of Covid lockdown, we mutually agreed to swap our roles for Mr 8 to live with his Dad full-time and I would see him part-time because I wasnt coping with his behaviour. He i...s medicated but we had developed unhealthy behavioural patterns between us and I take full responsibility for my behaviour towards him as well. . I do not live by the belief that just because I am an adult it doesnt mean I know best and Im always in the right. . My mums health has also been a concern for awhile and she was admitted into aged care during lockdown which was tough. . I have wanted to use this platform as a place where I can express my interior design experience, passion and creativity. . I have to admit that its also been a bit of an escape for me. Im easily seduced by pretty pictures and could scroll through photos and articles for hours! If I put it into perspective, I figure my escape could be a lot worse. Im the last person to pass judgement here and I understand that we will do what we need to get through hard times. . I also want to be my authentic self which means being able to talk about some issues that are close to home. Our mental health has become a number one priority which has become a silver lining to the global issues . I decided to withdraw from one of my subjects this term because my focus isnt where it should and where I want it to be. I will take it back up next trimester and I am still on track to finish my diploma at the end of this year. . Are you struggling with work, study, parenthood, life? YOU ARE NOT ALONE STOP! BREATH! REFLECT REACH OUT FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT AND CONNECT Or if you know someone who may be struggling, even your strong mates who never speak up, it takes 3 words "are you ok?" 24.01.2022 3 D R E N D E R S are part of the interior design process that I love to do. . These renders follow on from my previous post of my rustic Mediterranean Laneway concept. . I didnt call it Olive Lane for nothing. As you come to the end of the narrow part of the laneway entrance is a courtyard with an olive tree and more seating. ... . A large mural of santorini buildings we are familiar with is a feature point in the cafe area to add interest, colour and Mediterranean vibe. . The bookshop has a warm homely feel with earthy tones and elements. . The counters are constructed of roughly hewn travertine stone with limestone counter tops which compliment the travertine flooring. . The booksop side has a large blue pivot door and the cafe opens up to the courtyard with concertina doors. . My next lot of render images will show the boutique theatre on roof top. . . . #interiordesignconcept #lanewayconcept #aesthetics #rusticmeditteranean #conceptrender #rendering #3dmodeling #sketchup #commercialinteriordesign #commercialconcept #commercialdesign #enscaperender #designconcept #interiordesignstudent #studentblog #blog #billybluecollegeofdesign #torrensuniversity See more

22.01.2022 Trimester 2 starts back again this week with 100% online still until we receive the green light for face to face classes which I hope arent too far away. . Im doing 2 subjects with 1 subject left for my final trimester. Then I will have completed my first Diploma! . I did manage to complete 1 of my diy projects being my dining chairs. There are always more to do and I have shown a couple of minor projects I want to do in the next couple of weeks in my story today. Think r...ustic. . So for the next 12 weeks it is eat, sleep, create. I had better add in exercise as well or my PT @nattykpt will have a few words to me . 19.01.2022 Hello! How is everyone getting through Thursday? . Well after a few attempts to upload my IGTV video to firstly my feed, then my stories, due to my technological ineptness, its been reduced to this photo! .... I had just arrived to my local destination to finally present my concept presentation to my "client" Lauren @osteo_lauren. And I decided to have a chat sitting in my car and share my news. I think it helped calm my nerves a bit too. . Presenting to clients is an area I need to improve on. Its not shyness as I have no problems with talking to people, but I need to work on a professional delivery with my vocabulary, my tone, my and body language. Its a skill that I think takes practice if you dont naturally have the gift of the gab, like myself. . My son, on the other hand, can talk under cement and I have no idea who he gets it from but I need to bottle some of it! . 18.01.2022 F I V E S E N S E S is a magical poem written by one of Australia's great poets and environmentalists, Judith Wright ( 1915 - 2000 ). . Her legacy has inspired millions including Australian artist Emily Floyd. Emily has represented the words 'all shape and colour' from the poem, as a large life size interactive sculpture that can be proudly seen walking along the Mangrove walk in Brisbane. . We could all pause and be aware and appreciate a little more of our five senses at ...times. . I love how people inspire people, art inspires art. 18.01.2022 I did a sneaky little screenshot combining Interior Design and Osteopathy with my commercial mock design and render which is one of my favourites actually. . Through my research about the Osteopathy industry along with the healthcare and retail industries, I learnt some interesting information about where the industries stand regarding the current global situation and how they might be affected post COVID-19 whilst keeping in mind the affects of climate change as well! . Th...ere is a lot at stake and more to consider. . We are currently experiencing an Age of uncertainty . But these changes allows for new voices to be heard and new solutions to emerge. . Over the next couple of years there will be a mindset shift from consumerism to dematerislosation to prioritise social and environmental good over economic growth. . 17.01.2022 According to Elle Decor In and Out 2020 Design Trends, perfection is out, gone, see ya later, kiss my unperfect butt goodbye! . This could be a contentious issue for some which I completely understand and heres why.... . I use to be that person who wanted everything to look perfect. Of course this was more of a reflection of society and how I was brought up! ... . Who knows the saying ; There is a place for everything and everything in its place! I still like to live by this rule but I dont sweat over it anymore. . I remember my first boyfriends mother ( whom I will forever love and remember her beautiful heart) opening my linen cupboard when she visited our home, and in her South Hampton accent said " Wow Tamara look how neat and tidy you are, youre amazing " . Of course I took it as a compliment then, but Im not sure now if it was said in awe or if she was horrified! . The silver lining is that Im actually thankful to the demands of adult life and motherhood, I realise now that trying to maintain constant perfection is not realistic, nor is it good for my health anymore It could be completely the opposite for someone else. . Now, I want the "lived in, Im content, Im loving life, this is my/our story, Im/ were free to style what pleases me/us in this house" look! Hear what Im saying? . As we grow and mature our styles and tastes change and thats completely ok. Embrace it. That is what makes life interesting. . As long as we are content, happy, healthy and being honest with ourselves and those around us with how we want to present ourselves through our styling, be it interiors or fashion, then you cant do anything more except L O V E L I F E ! . . . #2020designtrends #elledecor #interiorstyling #interiordesign #fashion #interiordesigngoals #interiorinspo #interiordesignblog #interiordesignstudent #studentblog See more

I have been a long time lover of succulents simply because they are drought tolerant and can produce the most beautiful flowers and I can forget to water so they are forgiving like that. . 17.01.2022 This is a sketch of Phil Lane in #fortitudevalley for an assessment coloured with copic markers. . I feel like I over did it with the colour but practice makes perfect right? . We are to design a commercial business and community space with a roof top.... . My design is a boutique bookshop that will display local artwork and on the roof top will be a boutique outdoor/indoor theatre venue with a retractable roof. . Inspired by the ancient Greeks outdoor theatres on beautiful evenings patrons can sit underneath the stars whilst taking in some local culture. . 17.01.2022 R O O F T O P C O N C E P T for the final part to my rustic mediterranean laneway concept design. . In my original design I was far too ambitious with too many elements going on in this small space. I had the theatre, a bar and a pergola area which could work but in a much larger space. So I had to rethink and refocus on one element to work well which is my boutique theatre with a retractable roof. . I named it the theatron which is Greek for theatre and it would seat up ...to 30 patrons. The retractable roof allows for patrons to sit under the sunset and night sky in fine weather whilst watching performances. . Rethinking the space gave me more room for a decent size dressing room and storage space. . Cobbled stones are on the flooring inside of the theatre as the stage for an authentic look and feel. Timber stairs are on either side of the limestone plaster seating for easy access that have led lighting. . My design ideally would include disability accessibility for wheelchairs with designated spaces at the very front row but I ran out of time to include this change in the design of the tierd seating. . A glass ballistrade frames the edge of the floor which overlooks the olive tree and front entrance. A coffee cart would sit near the two stone lounges that would have outdoor cushions where patrons could sit and wait for the performance to start or just take in the views. . Designing concepts are exciting and fun and take a lot of research to make sure the desired look is achieved. . . . #conceptdesign #conceptrender #commercialdesign #rendering #3dmodeling #sketchup #designinspo #interiordesign commercialspaces #rusticmeditteranean #lanewayconcept #brisbanelaneway #brisbane #enscaperender #interiordesignstudent #studentblog #blog #billybluecollegeofdesign #torrensuniversity See more
17.01.2022 & of my mother when she was a nurse at 18 or 19 years old ( second one in from the right ) nestles beneath my King Protea in the native floral arrangement and beside my silver angel and three wooden stars. . I dedicate this vignette to my Mother. Gardening has always been in mums DNA but I was a late bloomer compared to mum in that area. Plant fever did finally have an affect on me. Her health has deteriorated substantially over the last... few years with this year being the hardest. . 16.01.2022 M Y C O N C E P T D E S I G N of a Rustic Mediterranean laneway. . It was a lot of fun desiging this concept and worth staying up all night for the marks I received. Phew! . As you enter the laneway entrance, Porphyry Stone is used on the floor, all walls are limewashed throughout, rustic finish treated hardwood timber used for the pergola, a water feature and rustic second hand tap underneath. Rustic trellises form the roof of the pergoa with bougainvilleas hanging above... and on the wall. . As you walk to the end of this front entrance just in front is a courtyard, stairs and behind them a lift to take you to the rooftop. . Next week I will show images of the boutique bookshop and cafe. Then lastly the boutique theatre that would hold up to 30 patrons on the rooftop. . I still havent finished completely with bits here and there to tweak starting with adding more seats with the tables. . Im extremely happy with my efforts and results. I havent put high expectations on myself for a few years but this Im ok with because I know what my creative capabilities and limits are, and Im loving every. Single. 14.01.2022 For my uni assessment we are to develop a commercial and non commercial business concept for a Laneway which includes a rooftop design. The Laneway will be called Olive Lane. . My concept is inspired by the outdoor lifestyle and love of theatre built as open air structures from the ancient Greeks. .... For my rooftop design my concept is an outdoor / indoor boutique theatre with a retractable roof so on beautiful starry afternoons and evenings patrons can take in the romance of the skies whilst watching the play performance. . This quick little sketch I did shows the curved tiered seating with the stage on the ground. . This boutique theatre will only hold up to 50 patrons. There will also be rooftop bar and some lounge style seating under a pergola to socialise for the remainder of the evening after the theatre. . Sounds like a venue I would be interested in going to. 14.01.2022 My finished result for my 2 dining chairs. . To recap these chairs were 2nd hand and originally clear stained timber before I had applied a couple of coats of Porters Paints Chalk Paint. Some colours can look different once its applied so I went through that process. However, it wasnt quite the colour I wanted. I finally bought the colour called Blue Reef and repainted them. Disclaimer: I am not paid for endorsing Porter Paint products just love them. .... Steps for painting with chalk paint. Step 1. Wiped dust off and clean with a damp cloth then let dry. Give your paint a good stirring. Step 2. I applied 1 coat of chalk paint to each chair. Let them dry overnight. Step 3. Sanded back very lightly with fine sand paper, in areas such as the edges where I want the slight worn look and where I want the black wax to add depth. When sanded wipe down with a dry clean cloth. Step 4. ( Optional - or go to step 5 ) Applied the black wax with a soft clean cloth to the sanded areas. Wax on. Wax off! Very easy. Step 5. Applied the Clear acrylic top coat in other areas where the wax isnt. Or apply all over if there is no wax applied. Step 6. Let dry completely overnight or at least for the day if you started in the morning. Step 7. Pat on the back to yourself for putting in the effort and enjoy your finished project! . . . #diyproject #interiorinspo #interiors #interiordecorating #interiordesign #interiordesignstudent #porterspaint #studentblog See more

13.01.2022 C O L O U R S . Not everyone is drawn to the colours of the rainbow. Ive always worn colour and used it in my decorating without thinking too much about them. Except for pink. .... Silly or not, its funny what our subconscious actions can say about us. . We are drawn to certain colours that reflect our Personalities Love Growth Moods Experiences . 13.01.2022 The first pic of three showing my completed shop front design and render for my subject Project Site Analysis. . I feel very lucky and grateful to have been given this opportunity to work on a mock design for @osteo_lauren . Our brief was to redesign an existing commercial space that was desirable, viable, and feasible for our clients. It was preferable to try and stay within the clients given "budget".... . A business shop front is the "first impressions" in retail. It should look inviting, warm and welcoming. . This building was probably built in the 70s and the facade is still in its original condition with old windows up the top and large sliding doors. So essentially I thought it was necessary to give this shopfront a modern facelift for to align with this modern business. Being in healthcare you want it to look clean, fresh and minimalistic. . So I designed new glass panels with an automatic sliding glass entry door for easy and contactless access. Half of the glass panels would be frosted for some additional privacy. New paint on the exterior leaving the original exposed brick on the side for some authenticity of the building and a little contrast for interest. . Panel glides hang on the internal in the waiting room as a sunblock to the summer midday sun that would come through the front windows. . I will follow up with interior photos over the coming days. . . . #interiordesign # osteopathy #healthcare #commercialdesign #renovationdesign #fitouts #renders #sketchup #enscape #interiordesignstudent #brisbanestudent #studentblog #uniblog #billybluecollegeofdesign #torrensuniversity See more

10.01.2022 D E S I G N E R S love to show their final concept designs and renders of a project. And why not? There has been a lot of sweat and tears behind the scenes to reach the final stage. .... I now understand the creative thought process involved before you see the beautiful renders and designs. . The C O N C E P T D E V E L O P M E N T stage involves a few different methodologies that can be applied to help with concept ideation and space planning for our designs. . It might not be the prettiest process but it is THE most important! As creatives and designers its imperative that we understand the clients brief and able to communicate our design ideas to them by applying the principals and elements of design. . Its our creative flow whatever that may be : Messy and beautiful, Fast and slow, Long and short, Simple and complex , Imperfection and perfection, Spontaneous and painstakingly thought out. Its where our creative juices start flowing and its fun! . This is done though researching, brain storming pros and cons, mind mapping, bubble and block diagrams, mood boards and sketches with lots of notes on all of them. . This is one of my colourful bubble diagrams to show an option for a layout of my library we have to create. The 3 red lines mean there is a major adjacent connection between the spaces. The 3 black dots are a minor adjacent connection. . 10.01.2022 Its R U OK DAY today! . Our world has had a silent global pandemic happening right before our very own eyes waaaay before Covid-19. . The mental health pandemic! ... . My mental health has suffered over the past few years and I have lost 2 brothers. One from suicide 21 years ago and the other from pancreatic cancer and liver failure 7 years ago. Did you know 1 in 3 people think about suicide? . The stigma that was attached to suicide 20 years ago is starting to change with more transparent important conversations happening rather than putting on the blind blinkers. . We dont pay enough attention to our intuition and what our bodies are telling us because we are too busy, we clog our minds with poor diet choices and excessive drinking. So brain fog takes over and sabotages any good work we try to do because we cant think clear. And the toxic cycle continues. . Thats where self care steps in. Start with 5 mins a day to be present and mindful about what you are doing and be honest with yourself and ask "Am I ok?" . We can start being the positive role models for our children and teach them what self care looks like. We arent taught how to deal with stress when we are young. Have more open discussions within the family. It might be hard at first but like anything things can improve with practice over time. . We only get one chance at life and one body. . Please reach out to friends, family or support services such as Lifeline, Beyond Blue, or your local GP if youre struggling. Dont ever be ashamed of your story. . How are you? 09.01.2022 One thing I like to remind myself of is who we are designing and styling for. . There are styles that some Interior Designers may only prefer to use for their clients. They become a specialist and experts in that niche style. Perhaps I will consider that one day. .... For myself, at the moment, I want to gain as much experience as possible in the design industry, which means I have to be more flexible and adaptable to the clients wants and needs. . We are hired because our clients either lack the skills, the confidence, knowledge or the motivation to design. Maybe they love colour but lack the confidence to use it in their home. Or they have seen a design they love and want it on their home but dont know where to start. . A great way to develop a better understanding of a clients lifestyle is to become a bit nosey and ask to look at their wardrobe. What style and colour of clothes do they wear? Our fashion sense is undoubtedly a direct refection of who we are and what we like. . We have to be a bit like a detective in a way with a gentle approach through warmth and kindness. If I go to the dentist and they ask me nothing about how and when I clean my teeth, or even what my diet is, I would think that they arent so invested in my dental health. . What are your thoughts or what tips work for you that you would like to share? . . . #interiordesignanddecorating #interiordesign #interiors #commercialinteriors #residentialinteriors #brisbane #interiordesignstudent #studentblog #blog See more

She has taken each image and portrayed it similar to that of Pantone colours using the same skin colour as the background.... . Every time I take a picture, I feel that I am sitting in front of a therapist, she said in a 2016 TED Talk. All the frustration, fear, and loneliness that I once felt Becomes love. 02.01.2022 As a mature age student, one element I am thoroughly enjoing about studying through research is not only learning about interior design but learning about our history and culture here within Australia. . I feel like I really have been living in a hole somewhere. Although I have always considered myself to be open-minded, and always wanted to travel, I havent had the experience that I wish I had sought when I was in my 20s. . Before I turned 30 I remember I nearly considered... going fish packing in Alaska to go far far away and experience something completely different. Who knows what the outcome would have been had I done it. A sliding doors moment. . I went through a tough time in my first relationship which held me back for far too long through my 20s. ( I held myself back and dont blame anyone else) . We all have sliding door scenarios in our history with "What ifs?" . But Im just thankful I have managed to make it through the other side through some very difficult times and I am here stronger than ever. . I know that I CAN get back up again after I get knocked down. that part may have been extracted from a song which I heard on the radio today and inspired me! . This photo credit goes to myself taken at the Ipswich Central Library today. "Libraries are the cathedrals of our time. It is the most important public building in a city" Quote by Francine Houben of Mecanoo. . Thats me signing off today.... Have a FANTASTIC weekend. See more
