25.01.2022 Bruthen is open for business and if you enjoy second hand treasures, why not call in at "Ye Olde Oppe Shop" aka Bruthen Op Shop. Weve got more than just clothes too! Well let you... in to a little secret... we are not the only place in town to find second hand treasures - Bruthen Bizarre and also in the old Butchers Shop. So make the trip to Bruthen, there are plenty of good food outlets, the Bruthen Art and Information Centre, the historic precinct, shady trees and grassy gardens plus of course the East Gippsland Rail Trail. 25.01.2022 The latest "Tambo Rambler" is out with lots of stories including how the community is coping during COVID-19. Bruthens community newspaper is produced by the Bruthen and District Citizens Association. http://bruthendistrict.org.au/discover-our-/tambo-rambler/

25.01.2022 Thank you Janine for sharing these photos of St Columbs at Swan Reach with us. Janine says "What a cute little church" and it certainly is. If you are passing through Swan Reach, it is easy to stop off and take photos or enjoy the rose garden. Services are on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 11am. If you know someone who is planning a small intimate wedding, what a lovely church to be married in. Does anyone have photos of past weddings here? Anglican Diocese of Gippsland

25.01.2022 Brian and Kerrie recorded a service for today, 6 September 2020, this time at St Marys Church Buchan. You can find it on You Tube at this link: https://youtu.be/rnWL7BfCit0.

25.01.2022 Have you missed our Op Shop while weve all been being careful and staying isolated? We have missed you, but now we are able to open again and ready to welcome you back. Weve got loads of winter woollies, coats and so much more. Please respect our volunteers and locals and stay away if you feel unwell. We ask you to practice social distancing, use hand sanitiser and youll need a little extra patience so we dont have people crowding. Please just be aware of how many people are in our little shop at one time and if its a bit busy, maybe wait outside a few minutes until someone else leaves. Open Monday-Saturday 9.30 - 3.30, wed love to see you!

24.01.2022 Brian and Kerrie have again recorded a service for today, this time at St Matthews at Bruthen. You can find it on You Tube at this link.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzLno-7TnwE

24.01.2022 Do you fancy a drive to Mallacoota (best for East Gippsland residents rather than those further away)? St Peters Op Shop in Mallacoota is having a 50 cent sale all next week. Opening hours are short, so you would need to time your day accordingly.

24.01.2022 Just confirming that all our Anglican Parish of Tambo churches (Bruthen, Swan Reach and Buchan) will be closed until further notice due to restrictions to reduce the spread of COVID 19 virus. The Bruthen Op Shop is also closed until further notice. PLEASE do not leave donated good outside the shop. There are no volunteers available to accept or store them, so they become litter. If you are in need of parish support please contact us on 5157 5463 or contact Heather Cahill 0487 759 835 or Laurie Baker 5141 1640 Stay safe everyone. Note also that the Ronald Street market in Bruthen and the Op Shop Furniture Shed scheduled for April 4 have been cancelled. Thank you Janine for the photo

23.01.2022 The roses at St Matthews, Bruthen are really happy about our recent rain. They have all put on another set of flowers and are looking very bright and healthy.

21.01.2022 We have kindly been given permission to share this lovely photo from the Gippsland History page by Kate Nancarrow. It is of Kates Grandparents in 1910 and her grandmother is wearing an amazing hat. The Rev Len Nancarrow was one of the early ministers at Bruthen. The book 100 years of Saints and Sinners, the Centenary history of Anglican Parish of Bruthen by Kenneth W. Campbell mentions them in relation to St Matthews, Bruthen. "The Rev. Leonard Maitland Nancarrow began on C...hristmas Day 1907 only three days after his ordination as Deacon in Sale. During 1908 he took services at Bruthen, Upper Tambo, Mossiface and Sarsfield. He went to Lower Nicholson from June 1908; and to Waterholes on Tuesdays... The Rev L.M. Nancarrow left for Alberton on Easter Monday (1908) to marry Miss Gregory of that town... he was away for one Sunday on honeymoon... and the happy couple were welcomed on their return in the Mechanics Hall. As far as we know, Mrs Nancarrow would be the first Anglican ministers wife to live in Bruthen and the first in the new Vicarage. The Nancarrows were farewelled on 21 May 1911 after four years and then they went to Orbost. He had done good work among the young men.... He returned to Bruthen for a service in 1947." A little peiceof Bruthens early history. (Note it would be polite to check with Kate if you wish to share the photo elsewhere on Facebook) See more

20.01.2022 Spring is here and whether you can take your daily walk in a park, some bushland, or just enjoy what is growing in the gardens around you, flowers are appearing everywhere. Today wed like to share some local native wattle in full bloom but also some garden flowers. Yellow seems to be dominating at present, but its a nice cheerful colour - what is in bloom in your garden?

19.01.2022 Last Sunday instead of the usual Sunday Church service at St Matthews Bruthen, we gathered with the wider Bruthen Community at the Mechanics Hall to have some time of reflection and prayer following a summer of bushfires, and join together with music and song. Rev Laurie Baker led the service with contributions from Ian Ferguson, Uniting Church, Bairnsdale and Bishop Richard Treloar, the Anglican Bishop of Gippsland. Like at Buchan the previous week, our event brought more ra...in, so the hall was a better option than the gardens. We were entertained by, and sang along with, a range of talented musicians including Heather Wadsworth, Ernie Walker, Nicky Moffat, choir singers and members of the Youth Jazz Orchestra. Ian read a poem or prayer of blessing by Jenni Gordon (Presbytery of Gippsland) which you can find at this link. https://crosslight.org.au//bushfire-beatitude-for-east-g/ The Maffra Lions Club had traveled to Bruthen to provide a generous BBQ lunch and Laurie cranked up a Fairy Floss machine to provide a sweet treat for kids and the young at heart. 18.01.2022 Here are some photos and story around the moving of the previous weatherboard Anglican Parish of Tambo Op Shop (once a chemist shop) to its new site as the Bruthen Art and Information Centre. Thank you to Helen Martin for putting together this little piece of Bruthens history.

16.01.2022 Thank you to all our Facebook followers. This weekend we reached 200 Likes" for our page. Even during winter the gardens around our three churches at Swan Reach, Bruthen and Buchan have something flowering. If you are going past stop and take a look. Thank you to Janine Pratt for sharing the photo.

13.01.2022 What beautiful Spring weather we had in Bruthen yesterday morning (and again today!). The Op Shop was open and our volunteers enjoyed welcoming local and regional visitors who arrived in Bruthen by car or on bikes via the Rail Trail. The Rail Trail is at its Spring best with wildflowers and birds, so its perfect for a long distance walk or ride, or just a short stroll around the Bruthen town loop. There is a great selection of places to eat and visit in Bruthen and don't fo...rget to pop into the Op Shop and see what wonderful bargains you can discover! Please remember to wear your masks, wash your hands, maintain social distancing and show respect to local businesses and each other. 13.01.2022 A lovely interview with Jude sharing her bushfire experience in Mallacoota.

12.01.2022 We would like to extend a very warm welcome to Rev Brian Norris who will be our Locum Priest for the Parish of Tambo over the next few months. By way of introduction Brian says- I am a priest attached to St Pauls Cathedral, Sale although over the last few months I have been the Locum in the Parish of Yarram. I finished up in Yarram at Easter. Some of you may remember that I was the Diocesan Registrar for many years until June 2019. I am very pleased to be taking on this mi...nistry and to work with you despite the difficult circumstances we find ourselves in. Initially I will be working for 1 days a week while the current social distancing regulations are in place but this will increase to 3 days when restrictions are eased and church services are able to be held again. I will continue to provide Sunday worship resources building on the good work of the Revd Heather Cahill and The Revd Cathy Turnbull. I will also be making contact with parishioners as best I can. If you would like to receive worship resources via email or need to chat please give me a ring on 0418 633 446. I also acknowledge the work of Revd Heather Cahill, The Revd Cathy Turnbull and the Revd Laurie Baker in recent times. Cathy and Laurie will continue their bushfire ministry work for the foreseeable future and we look forward to that. I would also ask you to pray for Philip and Ruth Kissick as they face a challenging time in their lives. As you know many church services are being held online and you may access these through the internet if you are able to do that. In particular, I recommend the following: Services recorded at St Pauls Cathedral, Sale may be accessed through http://www.stpaulssale.org.au/resources/32-notice-board.html. There are also some simple resources from the Church of England at https://www.churchofengland.org//midweek_worship_at_home_0 ..and then of course there is Songs of Praise on the ABC on Sunday mornings at 11.30am

11.01.2022 Brian has shared a recorded Anglican Parish of Tambo service for tomorrow (Sunday August 23) at St Columbs Swan Reach.

10.01.2022 Hello everyone, the difficult decision has been made to close the Op Shop again (from today) due to the vulnerability of some of the volunteers. Due to the introduction of Stage 3 restrictions today, Church Services are now also suspended through the parish. Service material is being emailed out every week, so please contact Rev Brian Norris on 0418 633 446 if you would like to be added to the list. It is hoped that some video services will also be available to watch. Please stay safe everyone, this will pass.

09.01.2022 Some good things to remember right now.

08.01.2022 Last Sunday we held an "After the Fires" community event in Buchan and of course it rained! No one complained but instead of an outside BBQ, the Lions Club worked their BBQ magic under the verandah of the Buchan Recreation Reserveand everyone gathered inside to eat and catch up. Rev Laurie Baker led a short service of reflection with music and singing provided by the Nowa Nowa Mens Choir and Nikki Drysdale (Benedetti). Both were a great hit, especially Nikki (who grew up in ...Buchan South) doing requests and the associated singalong. Don & Christas poetry was appreciated and helped make up a very enjoyable evening. Thank you Heather Baker for the photos and Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance Lions Club for the food! Dont forget our Bruthen Community event on Sunday (16th) at the Rotunda in Main Street Bruthen (or in the hall if its raining). Starts at 11am followed by a free BBQ lunch. See more

05.01.2022 Swan Reach is part of Anglican Parish of Tambo and serene scenes of the Tambo River like this one will be a familiar sight to our Swan Reach locals. With all the current and recent bushfire stress in East Gippsland right now, this image from A peep out the window, is very welcome as a reminder of things to be grateful for and the restorative power of nature. If you cant actually spend time in nature, your wellbeing will benefit even from viewing beautiful scenes of nature. Why not do yourself a favour and take a short break this weekend to sit under a tree, beside a river or take a walk in a park.
