25.01.2022 Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13 Most of us reading this are baptized Catholics. Once a year, at Easter, we have the remarkable opportunity to renew our baptismal promises. In this way, we confess with our lips that Jesus is Lord (see Rm 10:9). But if this confession is not founded upon heartfelt belief, our words ring hollow. In addition, salvation is not a onetime event. We must persevere, exercising the virtue of fortitude. The man who holds out to the end, however, is the one who will see salvation (Mt 24:13).

23.01.2022 Today, on the last day of the Church’s year, the Church proclaims to us the last chapter of the Bible. The Bible begins in an earthly paradise and ends in a heavenly paradise. The heavenly paradise is not only the restoration of the earthly paradise, but its fulfillment.

21.01.2022 Considering this, wise disciples guard against apathy. Are we about our Father’s business? (see Lk 2:49) None of those who cry out, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of God but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven (Mt 7:21).

16.01.2022 In today's Gospel reading, Jesus has just finished giving a three-day seminar. His message was so captivating that most people forgot to go home and eat. Jesus understood their needs. He cared about them so much that he worked a miracle, taking what was insufficient and converting it into a generous heaping of more than what was necessary. Do you realize that Jesus wants to give to you more than is necessary? Today's first reading says, "The Lord of hosts will provide for all peoples." The responsorial Psalm says, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall lack nothing."

13.01.2022 Jesus often provides for us through our own talents and through the people he has placed in our lives, just as he provided for the crowd on the mountainside using the fish and bread of the people, but we must let him decide the best way to take care of us. He really enjoys taking what is too little and multiplying it into too much. Give God your "hope list" and let him do something surprising with it. Have no expectations of what he will do. Make no demands on him. Let him do it his way, and the results will be better than you could ever imagine!

13.01.2022 The Lord wants to end this Church year the way He started it by telling us He loves us. He intends to show this love by giving us the perfect happiness of heaven. Let the Lord love you.

12.01.2022 The heavenly paradise has a river of life-giving water flowing down the middle of its streets (Rv 22:1-2). On both sides of the river grow fruit-bearing trees of life (Rv 22:2). In the heavenly paradise, there are twelve growing seasons each year (Rv 22:2). There is no sin in heaven, for there God’s servants faithfully serve Him (Rv 22:3). In heaven, we will see God face to face (Rv 22:4; 1 Cor 13:12). There, all light comes directly from the Lord, not from electricity or the sun (Rv 22:5). In heaven, we will reign forever (Rv 22:5). This all may sound too good to be true, but the Lord assures us through one of His angels: These words are trustworthy and true (Rv 22:6).

12.01.2022 Jesus is more than an authority we must obey. To know Jesus is to know what he's all about (his purpose, his love, and his life). Salvation is placing our faith in this to such an extent that we want to follow him, doing what he does, changing the world around us, all the way to heaven. We can believe in Jesus and yet remain in the darkness of sin and eternal death. To have faith in Jesus, we must not only believe that he is God. We must not only believe that he is Savior. We must also believe in everything - oh yes, everything! - that he taught by word and by deed.

10.01.2022 When we allow Isaiah's prophecy to come true for us in our current situations, we hear Jesus say, as we read in today's Gospel passage, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see!" Do you have faith to see? Fertilize your tree stump by increasing your prayer time, scripture reading, other spiritual reading, and participation in parish programs. Jesus himself is the new growth that will be born in you, but you have to nurture your soil.

10.01.2022 Who can live up to such an overwhelming standard? Don’t despair! We are not alone on this journey. We are surrounded by this cloud of witnesses (Heb 12:1), including St. Andrew. Andrew was one of the first evangelists (see Jn 1:41-42). How beautiful are the feet of those who announce good news! (Rm 10:15) He now resides in heaven, ready and willing to pray for us. At Mass, the Church reminds us the saints are constantly interceding in God’s presence; we can rely on them for unfailing help. Don’t neglect the Communion of Saints. Remember our older brothers and sisters who have gone before us. St. Andrew, pray for us.

09.01.2022 The Jews thought that when the new shoot finally grew from the stump of Jesse's tree, it would be a new king like David and he would rescue them from their human enemies. Of course, we know that Jesus was the Messiah that Isaiah had prophesied, and he was quite a different sort of king. The branch of Christ grew into Christianity and its many branches of Christ-rooted ministries. Jesus rescued us from the spiritual enemy and its weapons of sin. Faith-filled followers serve God's kingdom, producing many good fruits. Now think of your own tree stump. If we watch for our stumps to come back to life and grow the same old tree, we will fail to see our Messiah.

06.01.2022 Jesus understands your needs! Jesus cares about you! He can and wants to give you more than you need! Why do we find this so hard to believe? Because first we have to turn to him and trust him rather than demand it from the people around us.

03.01.2022 A cut-off relationship cannot be restored unless Christ becomes the center of it and each person's heart is converted and healed from the cut. A dead ministry will take new shape only when Jesus resurrects it; the roots will be the same, but the new growth will be surprisingly different. Christ's life is springing forth from the axed job as he points the way down a path that will glorify God. The withered dream will pass through the cross of Christ to be resurrected into a glorified new goal that will be empowered by a Pentecost of the Holy Spirit.
