25.01.2022 NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK 2020 Deep Blue Learning through play My angle for the topic I will be heading toward sustainability and how we can keep our oceans clean.... Children are confident and involved learners. Children develop dispositions such as curiosity , cooperation, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexively. Learning through play Learning about the environment Ongoing learning

22.01.2022 NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK Making an ocean in a bottle. Using coconut oil, food colouring and water , in a jar . Water to the line... Add food colouring Then add coconut oil. Rock gently but don’t shake! Outcome 4 children are confident and involved learners Children develop a range of skills and processes such as problem solving, inquiry, experimentation, hypothesising, researching and investigating. Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity. Children resource their own learning through connecting with people, places, technologies and natural and processed materials. This is evident when children are curious and enthusiastic participants in their learning. I promote this learning by trying new ideas and take on challenges. Plan learning environments for challenges. Hudson had to wear both gloves and do all the pouring in including the food colouring. He could see the waves and understood to not shake it or we would loose the wave effect.

Next we will tackle the outdoors area

19.01.2022 Botanical Gardens 7.9.2020 Monday Beautiful spring morning for a stroll around the Botanical Gardens. No wind , very few people, St Vigils junior school group was there. WHEN CHILDREN PLAY WITH: NATURE... :they learn to care for and respect living things. : investigate and identify : use their senses :understand changes and life cycles :create and imagine Learning outcome:2 children are connected with and contribute to their world 2.4 children become socially responsible and show respect for the environment. This is evident when they show growing appreciation and care for natural and constructed environments. I promote this learning by sharing information and provide children with access to a range of resources about the environment and the impact of human activities on environments. Experiences in early childhood settings build on the range of experiences with language, literacy and numeracy that children have within their families and communities. Positive attitudes and competencies in literacy and numeracy are essential for children’s successful learning. The foundations for these competencies are built in early childhood.

17.01.2022 Seth’s naughty Elf hitched a ride in his back pack We had been to the library for book exchange and when we came back we found the Elf had tipped the LEGO out. He has some cheese and biscuit for morning tea. We then had a game of fishing out a candy cane and the Elf decided he wanted one and he snuck one in to Seth’s bag.

04.01.2022 Nutrition week 2020 Shared fruit salad and cheese sticks. Outcome 3: children have a strong sense of well-being. Children take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical well-being. This is evident when they show an increasing awareness of healthy lifestyles and good nutrition.... I promote this learning by engaging children in experiences, conversations and routines that promote healthy lifestyles and good nutrition. I model and reinforce health, nutrition and personal hygiene practices with children. See more

04.01.2022 Let’s Read. The first 5 years are important for brain growth helped along by a positive environment. Let’s Read encourages parents to read to their children from birth , this also allows for adult/ child bonding time. Let’s Reads aim is for us to read from birth to 5 years by sharing books, songs, nursery rhymes this not only helps with language development but also emerging literacy and positive relationships.... Children need to be exposed to language and what better way than to bond than by reading to them. Find a topic they really like ie Animals, farms, diggers or trains etc this will keep them engaged. Language and vocal development: Repeat and discuss new words. Repeat songs and nursery rhymes. Children will pick up the words and nursery rhymes through repetition. Poor literacy: has been shown to lower self esteem Poor employment opportunities Poorer social outcomes Higher rates of unemployment Let’s Read is empowering parents to commit to read more to their children, promote positive relationships and school readiness skills. I have always been an advocate for reading programs and this is evident by us attending library sessions for many years. It takes no more than 5 minutes to read a book to a child. If they have a favourite and want to read it every night do it and then you will find one day when you turn the page they will start to read it to you .
