24.01.2022 Shin Sen Dojo Tamworth - 20th Anniversary Week. One of the rare videos we do have was for a demonstration in Bi Centennial Park in 2013. It was challenging due to the limited space we had, so we had to be very careful where we rolled - especially when using weapons. ... Photos tomorrow ...

21.01.2022 Words of Wisdom by Ken McLean Sensei The outer world is like a wheel continually cycling through endless change. The inner world or source is like the axel which is stable and on which the outer world rests. One of the purposes of meditation, Aikido, Ki and spiritual practice is to connect to this source. When we calm the waves of our mind into the deep still state, the emotions, thoughts and stress become smaller and seem to disappear. This ever present dimension is power...fully nourishing however also incredibly subtle so as to appear almost not to exist. Like the ancient poem Many people stop where there is fine tasting food, good company and beautiful music but ki when tasted no taste, when look at can’t be seen, when listened to no sound but when used inexhaustible. This poem describes the subtlety of inner practice. I can attest to this as my inner most deepest class, the Wednesday morning Ki class is the smallest due to its deep inner nature. The external world is more tangible, easier to feel, see and relate to but also easier to become more deeply entangled in and be disappointed by it. However having a practice that connects to the unchanging reality of the spirit or source, allow stresses to become smaller and smaller. As Hans Seyle the professor who coined the word stress suggested in his 3 points summarising the handling of stress Don’t sweat the small stuff Its all small stuff It usually doesn’t work to fight against things, it usually doesn’t work to run away from things learn to flow with them He may as well have been describing Ki training and Aikido training. When we maintain the unity with our inner being we can give more fully to our outer expression. This enables us to be more effective and yet deeply relaxed.

21.01.2022 Shin Sen Dojo Tamworth - 20th Anniversary Week. Fast forward to January 2010 and 7 Prime approached us to do an audition for Australia's Got Talent. We declined - 3 times.... But they were so persistent we eventually said okay. They wanted us to do a 2 minute demonstration - no more. So we packed in what we could in 2 minutes. We were on last that day at the TREC and they looked like they were all ready to go home before we even started. So they filmed our 2 minute routine - but then asked for more. So much more in fact that they kept us there for over half an hour. We never saw the video and wonder if it still exists. It would be nice to have a look after 10 years. A huge thank you to June Underwood who took the photos. And no, we never went to Sydney to do the show, as we didn't think Aikido should be viewed as a novelty act. More tomorrow ...

18.01.2022 Shin Sen Dojo Tamworth - 20th Anniversary Week. Mats - at last! In February 2001 we borrowed some mats from fellow Aikidoist and friend Bruce Agnew in Harrington, Taree. ... Getting those mats to Tamworth is a story and a half and we almost lost them over a cliff and ourselves in a flood. What an adventure that day was. Our first night training on them was so soft after 5 months on hard ground. It felt so good that we trained for over 3 hours each class for a couple of weeks. In April 2001, we moved into our first hall (dojo) at the old soccer fields next to the Tamworth racecourse. We ended up staying 10 years there. Mid 2001 we purchased our own mats but had nowhere to store them. A huge thank you to Andrew Storrie who built us a rack to store them in. We still use it today Andrew - 19 years later. Tomorrow- some outdoor events remembered.
