20.01.2022 Apologies for the delay in providing everyone an update. In early March the Tamworth City BMX Club site was temporarily closed (Find post here: https://www.facebook.com/tamworthbmxclub/posts/2732742136773150) due to the discovery of asbestos contamination in the dirt of the track. Since that time, the Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) have been very busy and proactive in regards to further testing and planning for remediation. Following initial tests that showed that there was... in fact asbestos contamination, TRC hired a testing agency to conduct extensive testing on the track to find out how bad the contamination was. TRC received a detailed report which showed that the contamination levels were low and that there was no health risks to the public. Since that time, TRC working in conjunction with specialised contractors and their own construction staff, have explored the not so simple process of creating an effective and affordable plan to remove the non-friable asbestos that was found on site. It is likely that in this months ordinary TRC meeting a report outlining options for remediation will be presented to the Tamworth councillors. We would like to stress that although the site is still currently closed, it is not a permanent closure. The TRC alongside our proud club have been working hard to ensure that we will soon be able to present a facility capable of holding large events, training our local competitors and providing a great recreational sports facility for our local community to enjoy long into the future.
