23.01.2022 TAMWORTH CYCLE CLUB 2020 Presidents Report I joined the committee in 2018 as a committee member and after actively being involved throughout that year, I took on the role as president in 2019 and again in 2020. I wanted to give back to the club which has given me and my family so much in the sport.... I came into the role not wanting to dramatically change what we do at the club. Instead, I wanted to ensure that we put on the races that have previously been very successful, reintroduce some club favourites I grew up watching as a kid and continue to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for anyone involved in TCC. Due to obvious recent events, 2020 hasn’t been the easiest year to steer the ship, but I’m very thankful to the rest of the committee for remaining positive throughout a difficult year. The decision to cancel our favourite events; Gunnedah to Tamworth and Tamworth Cycling Festival (Nemingha to Nundle) took it’s toll, but in the end were ultimately taken out of our hands. Planning is already underway for these events to come back bigger and stronger next year, which I’m sure everyone is already looking forward to. 2020 hasn’t been all doom and gloom though. The start of the year saw a very successful interclub criterium series in which TCC was well represented with exciting racing across four grades and junior divisions. Since returning to racing, there has been many great individual performances at State Opens and State Championship races, most notably Luke Deasey’s Under 19’s NSW Road Race Title and an all round podium performance from Pip Ash at the State Masters Titles. At a club level, we’ve mixed things up, tried some new things. We’ve watched juniors grow throughout the year as athletes and people under Kev and Luke’s guidance, with big improvements from the likes of Isla, Harriet, Lachie and Eddie who continue to inspire the younger crop of riders coming up behind them. Although there hasn’t been a great deal of racing, we are excited to close out the year with a bang, bringing back the Tamworth Track Open on December 12th. It’s been a major goal to get a track carnival in Tamworth since the opening of the new velodrome and thanks to Cycling NSW and a team of volunteers, we are able to do so. The carnival will feature the Under 15s & 17s State Sprint Championship along with numerous events catering for U9s through to seniors of all different levels. We as a committee and club are looking forward to 2021 and all that the club has planned for the year. We’d love for as many people to be involved as possible. The current committee is a great bunch of people who all share great passion for the club and I’m sure the new committee for 2021 will be the much same. I am putting my hand up to do it all again for the next 12 months, however, in the event that some else would like to steer the ship, I am very happy to remain on the committee in some other capacity. 06.01.2022 Welcome to this weeks race report which features a number of weather phenomenons including the legend and speed demon hurricane hurcum where everyone is just warm for her form. It looked to be a sunny but windy race with perfect conditions surrounding Sara, isla, Harriet and Paige, but a storm was brewing with big and little brothers Nash, with a side of the el-janine-o lingering around, when a sneaky drop of the accelerator created a cyclone effect with wheel-winds (see wh...at I did there ) of isla, Paige and sneaky flying in all directions and coming in at over 35km an hour! A top race where everyone pushed each other and threw out challenges along the way including one from D grade crit hero Dave to the hurricane for 8th place. A sprint to the end saw isla rain in the others in first with Paige hailed as the runner up and sneaky shining in third. The el-Janine-o thundered in taking fourth place. Massive effort by the rest of the D grade crit heroes who thundered home in style trying to get in before the hurricane hit! It goes to show, that no matter whether rain, hail or shine, the D grade crit heroes make it to the line! A combined A/B grade looked like there were some lightning fast strikers amongst the clouds with the raining champ from last week two hands wright on, lining up with Nash potato, foster fruits, and noakesy. A foggy start meant we couldn’t see a clear winner, but a few summer storms saw people ducking for cover in all directions. Nash looked strong with the prediction of good stuff to come but an early prediction ended up like a tim Bailey weather report, awaiting some reign to break the drought, but no luck. The final three were whispering their goodbyes waiting for a train and turning with each other for the summer reign. We could hear them saying nothing will change, take turns with me baby for the summer reign. We could hear the whistle for the final pain One final sprint so everyone went insane. Oh my gosh it’s sprints that’s we dream of Oh my gosh, the final push for the day Somewhere in their hearts they dug deep Racing to the podium, the top spot to gain. In the finish foster fruits took poll with noakesy finishing second and two hands wright on finishing third. Now to the kiddies where it was cousins vs cousins vs cousins and sisters vs sisters in the Wright and OConnor race for the most important meal of the day ice cream! The winner was as hard to pick as what flavor to have out of a Neapolitan ice cream container! Never fear, throw the old Neapolitan away and get down to scream ice creamery! In the end, it was close but Toby Wright took home the chocolate with Issy OConnor finishing second and Eliza coming home strong in third. Thanks to everyone for a great race day and a special shout of to kev for all his help! This race report proudly bought to you by hurricane. where there is 30% chance it’s not even raining yet
