10.01.2022 A great day for Tamworth with the launch of University of New England, AU's plan for a central Peel Street campus and Integrated Industry and Community Centres. Elder Len Waters provided the Welcome to Country and explained its origin. We heard opening remarks from UNE Chancellor James Harris followed by the Minister for Decentralisation and Regional Education Andrew Gee MHR, UNE Vice-chancellor Prof Brigid Heywood, Mayor Col Murray, Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson MLA, M...ember for New England Barnaby Joyce MHR and Mitch Hanlon from the Tamworth University Reference Group. Thanks to Chancellor James Harris, Vice-chancellor Prof Brigid Heywood and Mayor Cr Colin Murray for supporting the idea that Tamworth has a need for a university campus. Thanks also to the Tamworth University Reference Group members: Stephen Maher, Adel Mazoudier, Anne Jacob, Jackie Powell, Richie Thornton, Jye Segboer, Mark Woodley and Mitch Hanlon. Without their drive, today's event would not have happened. Thanks to the UNE team ably lead by David Miron and the people from Nous: Davina, Jessica and Steven. They worked collaboratively with Tamworth Industry and wider community in a positive and welcoming way. Lastly, thanks to the many participants of the industry consultation sessions. It has taken some time but the result is a much better and bigger project than initially imagined. Well done all. The next couple of steps will see the establishment of course advisory boards and the delivery of certificates through a blended delivery model that includes work integrated learning.
