25.01.2022 Relationships Are All There Is At any given time, we are either in relationship with our babies and children, or out of relationship. Most of us fall out of rel...ationship temporarily, but truly great parents set about to repair the glitch with empathy and compassion. Thats why the sign of a truly great parent is the behaviour of the parent, not the child. The parent realises they are the senior partner in the relationship, so they undertake to upgrade their relationship skills with which to mentor their young child. They take into account their child is just getting the hang of what it takes to stay in relationship with another, especially when overcome with BIG emotions. And lets face it, sometimes thats hard enough for us and we are the adults. In the English language we have the saying, The child is beside himself! and at one level he is. A child whose little body and brain is flooded by overwhelming emotion is a very long way from being in their calm centre. Great parents learn to stay calm for their toddler or child; they gently mentor their children within the power-dynamic of partnership - or Power Alongside (instead of Power Over). The parents who behave in these ways are the working model of healthy human relationships.

22.01.2022 Relationships The realtionship we have with our children is everything to them. It is not exaggerating to say it is a Matter of Life to them: the more healthy t...he relationship, the rosier their future. The relationship is build up in little increments: the ways in which we speak to our babies the ways we handle them and hold them the ways we care for them and meet their needs and being there for them when they are scared, distressed, angry or overwhelmed ... Each little act of kindness is a gift into the child's present and their into future. Nurture and kindness is spirituality in practice. It's that simple.

20.01.2022 When you think of your kids watching your every move - do you see your weaknesses and stuff-ups - and that makes you cringe. Or do you see that your kids can l...earn from you as you make mistakes and as you grow? We tend see ourselves as not able, not qualified, not good enough - too messed up and we don't want those things to be what our kids copy. We want to hide those weaknesses from our kids. To be honest, that doesn't work very well. They see our weaknesses. So we pray like crazy that our kids won't be like us. And God may be gracious! But He also wants us to grow in every area of OUR life. Just because we are parents - doesn't mean the growing stops. (Of course you know this!) The truth is when we deal with those things it is more of an example to our kids than how we run with our strengths. Our children are watching - so the question is - will they see you stretch out to grow? How you face your personal growth will have a big impact on how your kids face the areas they need to grow in. Let's stand together and commit to showing up, being honest, being real, being weak and being strong with our kids!! Our kids need to see us growing in character, not pretending that we have it all together. If this touches your heart and you'd like a copy of this quote to put up on your fridge or in your journal - message me and I'll send you a printable copy. See more

20.01.2022 Not too Far, from my back door. A little wander off my garden path. There it was , there it always had been. There it always will be. But today with tired tears, my sunken heart led the way Not Too Far From My Back Door.

20.01.2022 Your sensitive children and sensitive selves are incredible and definitely hold a super power not everyone is aware of.

06.01.2022 We can say 'I am really struggling with this today, maybe I need a warm bath or a long walk' out aloud for our children to hear - this IS resilience. We can say 'that made me feel really sad and thats why I am crying today' when your children give you a cuddle when they notice your tears - this IS resilience. We can say 'I really enjoyed spending the day with you today, it made me feel happy and I felt very connected to you' in building attachment and joy - this IS building resilience. It IS being the example within our struggles which will teach the most to our children Tania Louise Smith - From my latest article.
