21.01.2022 We have started a Make Our Residents Smile campaign asking people to send a message of cheer to aged care residents in our Cooinda Lodge and Andrews House. Ma...ny of the residents are missing seeing extended family, friends and grandchildren due to the COVID 19 lock down. It can make a big difference to their wellbeing knowing that people care during these difficult times. Please share this post to encourage others, including children, to send a message of cheer to Make Our Residents Smile. Maybe tell them something about your day, what makes you smile, how much you are thinking of others like the elderly during these unusual times. 18.01.2022 The silver lining to the clouds of smoke billowing from the bushfire crisis is the generosity of spirit and kindness of humanity. From children emptying out th...eir piggy banks, farmers donating feed for livestock and others sending medical supplies to support the care of native wild-life... it seems all of Australia is showing up and lending a hand in so many wonderful and creative ways On his first day back at work after the Christmas break, Simon Gregg, director of Gippsland Art Gallery, was inundated with emails from artists wanting to assist fire relief efforts. ART AID for GIPPSLAND was hatched and within hours the art world rallied support. Artists of all mediums are invited to submit works for the exhibition/auction to be held: 15 Feb to 15 March; auction 15 March. All money raised will be donated to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund . For details please visit: https://www.gippslandartgallery.com//art-aid-for-gippsland/ Many of our artists have nominated works for ART AID; today were wrapping up The Field donated by Sara Paxton Artworks. Artists are welcome to leave works with us up until 12 noon 7th Feb. Wayne Foenander, Gippsland Art Couriers, will generously donate his time and van to shuttle works to the exhibition Last week it was hard to move past the overwhelming sadness of the widespread devastation of homes, livelihoods and the heartbreaking loss of our native wildlife and their habitat. The stories of generosity and kindness that are coming to the fore are nothing short of inspiring #artaidforgippsland #gippslandemergencyrelieffund #artistsreachingout #artexhibition #artauction #fundraisingforfirerelief #gippsland #bushfirerelief

13.01.2022 ART AUCTION DONATIONS AT CAPACITY: GIPPSLAND ART GALLERY FIRE RELIEF AUCTION RECEIVES OVER 1000 ARTWORKS Gippsland Art Gallery Director Simon Gregg is bracin...g for the delivery and storage over 1000 artworks, that have been pledged to Art Aid for Gippsland, the 2020 Gippsland Bushfire Appeal Exhibition and Auction, which will be held on Sunday 15th March at the gallery. Nationally prolific artists, community based artists and even school children have donated works from Gippsland, Melbourne, across Australia and even as far as Croatia, the UK, the USA and South America. "We can not take anymore donations, we dont physically have the room", says Simon who is working with gallery staff to sort through donations of paintings, sculptures, ceramics and textiles. Simon suggests that artists wanting to donate, redirect their generosity to more localised community events. For example, school children that have created art pieces could stage a fund raising auction event at their school or local cafe. "Not everything can go on display, we just dont have enough walls for it", says Simon, who estimates only around 200 of the most high value pieces will be able to be included in the live gallery auction event in March. Nevertheless, gallery staff are endeavoring to photograph all the pieces that have been submitted, and post them on an online auction site. "Our initial target was to raise $100,000 and its all going to GERF", says Simon, who hopes that the auction will attract interest from local, national and international buyers. All artworks will be viewable via the Gippsland Art Gallery website gippslandartgallery.com from mid to late February. The online auction is being generously hosted by the website facilitators Invaluable, with artwork transportation companies Gippsland Art Couriers and International Art Services donating courier services to the fundraising event. "We really want to thank the hundreds of donors that have come forward and wanted to get involved and support this incredible cause", says Simon. 12.01.2022 As our community responds with precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, many local businesses are feeling the impactof social distancing. Council is curre...ntly working through ways we can assist directly with things like rates, fees and charges. Were also advocating to other levels of Government for the need for assistance with rates relief. In the face of the current challenges, it has been so amazing to see local businesses and residents respond to changing situations so quickly. By supporting local businesses where you can, you are helping to keep our economy resilient and ready to bounce back. So, as we all continue to adjust, here are just a few ways you can be kind to business in Baw Baw: Buy a gift card now and enjoy it later. It helps businesses keep cash flowing and itll be a great reason to get out and celebrate when things open up again. Shop online with local businesses. Lots of our local businesses have a website for shopping online and lots of great products on show via their Instagram and Facebook Pages. Shop over the phone. If your favourite business isnt online, give them a call and see if you can buy your product over the phone to arrange a quick pick up or arrange delivery. Leave a review. Its a tough and uncertain time for many businesses, and if you cant spare the cash head online and leave them a review, show them a little love so our businesses know just how much they mean to our community! Get on social media: Like, comment, and share posts from local small businesses. A click of a button, or a friendly comment means more people will see their posts, and they can share their products and services with even more people. Be kind, Baw Baw. Together well bounce back! ... Special thanks to the generosity of Ballarat Council for instigating and sharing the Be Kind campaign.

12.01.2022 We are sorry to say Liz Harbridge exhibition has been postponed till next year due to the Station Gallery Yarragon been closed at the moment. Also Jill Loader who was going to be on TheWall. Thank you to both for understanding. The current exhibition will remain up.

12.01.2022 GIPPSLAND CREATIVITY: THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT OF PAT THE DOG Meet Pat the Dog, a community arts project created by the Baw Baw Arts Alliance which is ...being funded by Regional Arts Victoria. The public art sculpture will eventually be dressed in a coat of colourful hand decorated tiles and be located next to the Station Gallery in Yarragon. "Jessie McLennan is responsible for the sculpture and she likes to work from a live model", says participant Janet Wyllie. "She used my old dog Jett, who is pretty good at not moving around too much if there is a treat involved". Over 100 local people have worked on the project, which has been in progress for the last 12 months. Stage 3 restrictions have delayed the application of the patchwork mosaic until September, but hopefully Pat will be ready (and restrictions have eased) in time to greet visitors to Gippsland by the summer! 10.01.2022 Unfortunately I have to announce that we will not go ahead with a possible Virtual 2020 Art Show. Given the time restraints and what must be organised and prepared, it is felt we cannot give it a suitable presentation conducive to the standards of our past live shows. Thank you for the positive comments we received that were a definite encouragement for us to give it a go. The committee will, as soon as we can, endeavour to plan on bring an even better 2021 Show to make up f...or the cancellation of this years. 05.01.2022 Looking for something to do that wont break restrictions?

05.01.2022 Following the Federal Governments announcement today regarding gatherings of 100 or more, the committee has with great sadness, decided to cancel this years show. Speaking to our sponsors today, they have all unanimously agreed to return for next years show and as most have said, it will be bigger and better. To this end we hope you will also support all the sponsors and raffle donors in the tough times that are ahead for them. Perhaps it is easier, but it is not always a g...ood thing to go on line. Remember a birthday or anniversary present most of our sponsors can help with, perhaps they may be closed, but offer other services. It could be worth checking. The following post will list all our sponsors and donors. Until next year, take care, stay safe and Haste ye back Michael Dempsey Chair See more

04.01.2022 Well with the holiday season over and the return to work plus school trudge happening, here is something to look forward to. The 2020 Tanjil Valley Art Show will be held on the 5th to the 8th June and this year there is a significant change to the adult photography section. The committee have decided to change the topic area from the "Tanjil Valley to the Baw Baws", to now be "The Baw Baw Shire." We feel that the limitations of the Tanjil valley, photographically wise, has been exhausted, but we still wanted to keep it local. Please make sure that when you do submit an entry, it clearly states where it was taken. Looking forward to your entries :)

02.01.2022 Hi everyone. From myself and the Art Show committee, to all our sponsors and supporters, we hope you are all well and surviving the current situation. We are considering putting on a virtual show for this year on our Facebook page and were wondering what the response would be to such an idea. Hopefully it will give a distraction to everything that is happening and put a smile on our faces. Children might enjoy doing something for the first time and seeing it posted for all ...to see, For logistical and space reasons, there would not be as many categories. There could possibly be a change in topic for the 2D Art and also a cap on entries per person and total entries for each category. At this stage 2D Art, Little Treasures, Photography (both adults and Youth), 14 to 18 years 2D Youth Art, plus 13 and under 2D Art are being proposed. Ideas at the moment and we would love your input. Thanks for your time and stay safe Michael Dempsey On behalf of the TVAS committee PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE
