25.01.2022 Hi all! Owing to the success of last week's Parkrun, we hope to unwrap it all again this Saturday - Boxing Day! Anyone available to volunteer? A big tankyou to Lynette Duffy in stepping up to do Barcode Scanning. All other positions still vacant.

25.01.2022 Hey there! Have you met Angela? Name? Angela May... First parkrun? early 2018 Why did you first start parkrun? To imorove my fitness level so I could run the 8km Botanic to Bridge instead of walking it. How many parkruns/volunteers? 81 parkruns/6 volunteers Favourite volunteer role? Tailwalker Are you a parkrun tourist and if so what was your favourite course? no What keeps you coming back week after week? Accountability and community What makes Tannum Sands parkrun so special for you? Beautiful location and friendly regulars Thanks Ang for being such a wonderful part of the Tannum Sands parkrun family. It's so great to see you each parkrun day. Your smiling face and friendly nature is just wonderful Emma

25.01.2022 Hello Tannum parkies As you have seen our parkrun wont be starting up this weekend, but don't worry we are working away in the background organising all the details to get our awesome parkrun back again for our local community and visitors. This gives us the opportunity to thank Emma Hamilton for all she has done over the past 2 years for Tannum Sands parkrun. As you may have seen from an earlier post Emma has decided to stand down from her ED role with Tannum as she needs t...o focus on her family life at the moment. Like everyone with parkrun we all have our story, Emma started her parkrun journey way back in 2014 after a gentle nudge from her friend Brett, looking for something different Emma embraced the parkrun family taking her first parkrun steps at Gladstone parkrun. It wasn't long after that Emma put her hand up and pulled on the orange vollie vest and had a go at finish tokens, we think this sparked a little something as Emma went on to become the ED at Tannum sands after the previous ED had to leave, it didn't take too many encouraging words from Craig Murrell before she agreed to become the ED. Since then Emma and her team have volunteered every Saturday to make Tannum Sands parkrun a very special place, fun and friendship make parkrun what it is. Once again Emma, we thank you for all you have done for parkrun and hope to see you back again soon. Thankyou EA Phil See more

25.01.2022 Hey there! Here is Mel! She is one of our wonderful Run Directors... here's some awesome info on Mel's parkrun adventure Name? Mel Daniels First parkrun? Here at Tannum Sands, back on January 13 in 2018 (yep I was one of those ‘guess I had better actually do something about that New Year’s Resolution’ people!)... Why did you first start parkrun? In 2015, I got myself to a point I could run 10kmand then a spate of injuries and other factors saw my physical fitness evaporate until it all but disappeared completely. I wanted something to get me back on the bike (path?) to build my fitness up at my own rate, but without the pressure of having to be present every single week the fact it is was free was an added bonus. Parkrun seemed perfectyou know what? It still is. How many parkruns/volunteers? I’m currently sitting on 28 parkruns, 42 volunteers. My goal for 2020 was to secure my 50 parkruns milestone the way I am going, I will do that with volunteering before I complete that many runs. I guess I will just have to settle to wearing purple until that red shirt becomes mine. Favourite volunteer role? That’s easy tail walker. A recorded 5km and a volunteer acknowledgment in one? Boom! (Plus, it makes it look like that I have to come in at the time I do those weeks) Are you a parkrun tourist and if so what was your favourite course? Not reallyI haven’t even visited the course at Gladstone yet (it is on my list). I did, though, step outside of my comfort zone and try the course in Maryborough when we were down to visit family last Christmas. It was great to see how different people operate (with my volunteer lens on) and was just as warm and welcoming as I find our Tannum course. What keeps you coming back week after week? Without doubt the people. Yes, Canoe Point is stunning and the course has shade most of the way, but if I need a quick dose of fitness inspiration, Tannum Sands parkrun is the place I find it. So many fitness levels, genuine encouragement and a real sense of community it makes skipping the Saturday sleep-in well worth it. What makes Tannum Sands parkrun so special for you? For me, personally, it has been watching parkrun evolve from something I do alone to a family activity. My son, Saxon, is loving the challenge of beating his PB each week and has volunteered with me a couple of times too. He has even got his Dad into the act. I am loving that parkrun is something we can do together and even though I am still not up to running 5km yet (#walkersunite) that I have been able to set a healthy example for my children. Thanks so much for all your hard work Mel! So proud of you x We love seeing your happy smiley face and love that you are part of the Tannum Sands parkrun family Emma

10.01.2022 Happy Thursday everyone Have you met Dave! He's one of our AWESOME regulars at Tannum Sands parkrun ... Name? David Thomas First parkrun? January 2017 Why did you first start parkrun? I'd always enjoyed running as a youngster especially 800m on the track and after going through a very challenging 2016 personally I felt I needed to get myself back on track physically and emotionally so had a crack at the Parkrun. I always remember that first one and how unfit I felt which was actually the kick in the arse I needed How many parkruns/volunteers? I've stacked up 96 Parkruns (all at Tannum) and was hoping to achieve my 100th around Easter if it wasn't for this covid-19 situation Favourite volunteer role? I've not done any volunteering as yet which probably doesn't look good on this resume but when I achieve a sub 25 which is still my present goal...I might Are you a parkrun tourist and if so what was your favourite course? I'm a Tannum local of 10 years this November What keeps you coming back week after week? I must admit that it's the addiction to try and beat my pb and achieve a sub 25.. which may not seem that fast to some but this is the beauty of the Parkrun.. it's about setting personal goals. It also provides me with a weekly fitness test and is such a super motivator giving something to look forward to each week even if I always look completely wasted at the end with my solar powered head placed under the tap to cool down...Pre covid-19 era of course. And of course... the comradery.. it's been great getting to meet so many people who regularly attend along with some healthy rivalries helping one another to improve..or just finish if it's too hot and humid for example. What makes Tannum Sands parkrun so special for you? It's rekindled my passion for running... even if it's at a slower pace Thanks Dave! You are an inspiration for us all. Can't wait to see you do your 100th run soon (hopefully) Emma

08.01.2022 A big thankyou to our wonderful volunteers who made yet another Parkrun Wonderful! We are now four years old!!

07.01.2022 In case you haven't been following the updates regarding parkrun return in QLD, I have attached the latest from parkrun Australia (16th October) Regards, Steve S Queensland (Qld)... Queensland Health currently requires phone numbers to be collected for all participants and spectators to assist with contact tracing. This is not a straightforward process for three main reasons. Firstly, between March 2019 and March 2020 when our events closed, 95,000 different people walked or ran at the 107 Queensland parkruns while 15,000 people volunteered. 65,000 of these people had registered with parkrun prior to March 2019, which gives an idea of the volume of people who are signed up with parkrun who would need to be contacted retrospectively. Consequently, for parkrun to obtain phone numbers for all existing participants in Queensland alone, we would need to contact more than 100,000 people to ask them to log into their parkrun account and update their details, while also asking new registrants to do the same. Secondly, if we did attempt to request this level of data, it is not clear what percentage of phone numbers we would need to collect to be compliant with Queensland Health’s requirements. Finally, as borders begin to reopen, we must also consider there will be people taking part in Queensland parkruns who are from interstate and therefore we would not have their contact telephone number. As a reference, Queensland Health has previously requested assistance with contact tracing following a measles outbreak near one of our events in 2019. We were able to comply with this request quickly and accurately using the contact information of participants that was available to us. We are continuing to work with the Sport and Recreation Department, and the Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young, to determine a practical solution. Additionally, Queensland Health requires hand sanitiser to be provided to all participants in the same way as NSW Health. For the reasons set out in our New South Wales update above, we have requested our events reopen under the sanitising procedures detailed in our COVID-19 Framework.

07.01.2022 In just over 17 hours we will be kicking off another five parkrun kilometres. The forecast says potential showers, but that won't scare us off (a lot of lightning...well, that is a different story...) Be sure to put your shoes and socks out by the door tonight, set the alarm and we look forward to seeing you this parkrunday.

06.01.2022 Hi everyone. An update below on our parkrun cancellations.... unfortunately it will be cancelled until the end of April. Hope everyone is safe and well Emma

05.01.2022 Happy Thursday everyone Have you met Bruce? ... Name? Bruce Holmes First parkrun? Gladstone - about 4 years Why parkrun? I’d lost around 30kg and wanted to be able to run a half marathon as a goal. So started running parkruns/vols? 149 parkruns. Volunteered as tail walker and timekeeper parkrun tourist? Always do park run holidays - favourite other is New farm What makes Tannum Sands parkrun special for you? Great people and having fun running Nice surroundings, great group of people. It's also great to see you achieving your goals. So proud of you Emma

05.01.2022 The countdown to the reopening of Tannum Sands parkrun has begun and we are all incredibly excited! As we quite literally get parkrun back up and running we would love to have as much volunteer support from our wonderful community as possible. At parkrun there are heaps of fun, simple and rewarding roles that make a significant contribution to our community. What’s more, you’ll have that feel good factor all weekend! Everyone is welcome to get involved and we would love it if you could lend a hand. Please comment on this post below or drop us an email at [email protected]. Thank you everyone.

05.01.2022 ONLY TWO MORE SLEEPS! What a great Parkrun group we have! Thankyou to all for your support in getting us back on track post the COVID shut-down. Things will be a little different and we will need to form some new habits. These include taking our own barcodes (volunteers too); registering our presence using the provided QR code; using the Parkrun app (instead of the old barcode reader and stopwatch); and other more general social distancing and infection control strategies l...ike no key box Roll on Saturday!

02.01.2022 Beautiful day, energising parkrun. Thankyou to our wonderful volunteers who made it possible.

01.01.2022 Greetings. First the not so good news. Tannum Sands will not be operating this Saturday 12 December as we are still preparing for the relaunch. The besterest news though is that Tannum Sands will restart on the following Saturday the 19th December with your new Event Director and event team.... So dust off your running shoes and come along on the 19th and help celebrate the relaunch and the upcoming holidays. Even better why not offer to help the team by volunteering. Remember many volunteer roles allow you to run/walk as well as volunteer. Be there or be square.

01.01.2022 Have you met Tonya! Such a wonderful person who is a wonderful part of the Tannum Sands parkrun family Name Tonya McCracken First parkrun? 14 October 2017 Why did you first start parkrun? 01.01.2022 Great Parkrun! A huge thankyou to volunteers!

01.01.2022 *** Tannum Sands parkrun Event #165 - March 7, 2020 *** It may have been muggy (sooooo muggy), it may have been the weather for mozzies, it may have been cancelled in Gladstone...but it takes a helluva more than that to keep the parkrunners away! We were stoked to have 83 finishers join us yesterday morning for their weekly 5km. Daniel A and Phillip T completed their first parkrun this week (we hope it isn't the last) and we had countless visitors from Gladstone Qld parkrun, ...thanks to a flooded course in town. Among those joining us for the first time were: Mark G; Troy E; David O; Daniel A; Reef L; Steven S; Kate S; Phillip T; Diane F; Helen M; Richard K; Andrew S; Karen S; Simone T; and Austin L. Thanks for joining us this week - we would love to see you again in the future. What is just as noteworthy is the number of parkrun PBs that came out of the morning. Special shout outs to Georgia B, Tomas L, Cameron B, Scott T, Tierney B, Mick L, Geoff M, Katie P, Daniel F, Kelly P, James S, Jennifer H and Sharon B on shaving seconds off their previous times and setting new targets to reach. As always, parkrun is only possible with the time and support of our local volunteers. Thank you, Tom, Victoria, David, Yvonne, Steve and Melissa for making today possible. We will be back in the same place at the same time next week, so if you missed out today be sure to set the alarm next Saturday and join the fun. Perhaps a scroll through this week's album will provide you the inspiration you need to get out there? (Be sure to like, tag and share the photos and get the word out there that Tannum Sands parkrun is a good run!)
