25.01.2022 Reminder! The Drive In Movies return this weekend. Friday night Jumanji is on and Footloose will be screening on Saturday night. Find out more, including times and how to purchase tickets at: https://www.whatsonbundaberg.com.au//2020-drive-in-movies-

23.01.2022 The seasonal partial closure of Dr Mays Island is now in place. The closure protects nesting and migratory shorebirds that come from as far away as Alaska and Russia. Please pay attention to the signage along the foreshore at the river mouth to ensure you do not walk onto the restricted area. https://www.bundabergnow.com//dr-mays-island-closed-to-pu/

23.01.2022 Thank you to the Volunteer Marine Rescue Bundaberg crew for recently inviting me to their base at Burnett Heads and for a trip on one of their rescue vessels. The volunteers provide an essential marine rescue and radio service for boaties in our area of the world and work alongside our emergency services. They do a fantastic job and are real heroes of our community.

23.01.2022 It was wonderful to represent the Mayor and Council at the Rum City Reds 15th birthday. Keeping our social connections and supporting each other is particularly vital considering the isolation many are experiencing during COVID-19. It is well worth celebrating both these groups and friendship. https://www.bundabergnow.com//rum-city-reds-celebrate-15t/

22.01.2022 Council completed 7.6km of new footpaths across our region in 2020. Division 6 work included additional footpaths at the Elliott Heads foreshore and the extension of the footpath on Campbell Street, Burnett Heads. I'm looking forward to the new footpath being finished along Breusch Street at Elliott Heads State School during the first half of 2021 and hopefully to more footpath projects as part of the 2021/22 budget. https://www.bundabergnow.com//2020-pathways-keep-communit/

21.01.2022 It was fantastic to attend the inaugural Bundaberg bioeconomy conference. Plenty of great projects are being proposed by businesses that are keen to work in Bundaberg and there are opportunities that will create jobs, reduce our landfill and lead to a more sustainable future. #bioeconomybundaberg https://www.bundabergnow.com/20//02/bioeconomy-conference/

21.01.2022 People at Bundaberg Airport are now required to wear a mask following the Chief Health Officer issuing a public health directive for all Queensland Airports. The direction covers airline passengers, but also staff at the airport, anyone picking up or dropping off passengers and anyone else attending the airport.

21.01.2022 Being a coastal community we love spending time at local beaches. It's important to make it as accessible as possible for everyone and this survey is looking into just how we can do that. I encourage local residents above the age of 65 or with a disability or mobility issues to give their feedback. It is your feedback that will help us gather evidence, cone up with solutions and secure funding for improvements. https://www.bundabergnow.com///beach-accessibility-survey/

19.01.2022 This video gives a bit more information on what you can and cannot recycle in the yellow bins. https://www.facebook.com/381697869260789/posts/770245060406066/

19.01.2022 Bundaberg's Startup Weekend is returning in February. It is a fantastic opportunity to learn from other entrepreneurs in this space and to network. https://www.bundabergnow.com//startup-weekend-to-ignite-e/

17.01.2022 Council has undertaken a pre-feasibility study to consider the commercial viability of increasing domestic air freight services or even adding international air freight services at Bundaberg Regional Airport. We have cheaper development opportunities, more available air space and less congestion than Brisbane, while being an ideal location that is close to major markets. Expansion would provide exciting opportunities for local businesses. Find out more at: https://www.bundabergnow.com//bundaberg-air-freight-pote/

17.01.2022 It's great to see this work completed that will provide safer access to the Port for heavy vehicles. Council has worked with the GPC and different levels of government to upgrade and realign Buss Street, including the Powers Streets intersection, as well as improving drainage in the area. https://www.bundabergnow.com//road-safety-upgrades-compl/

16.01.2022 It's great to see the new water quality and wind monitoring station installed at the Port of Bundaberg. This is a joint project of the Gladstone Ports Corporation and the CSIRO will collect data that will help the organisations and scientists to better understand the environment surrounding the Port of Bundaberg. You can read more about this at: https://www.bundabergnow.com//new-monitoring-station-at-/

16.01.2022 Burnett Heads Gateway Marina has taken a significant step forward today with Council approving a mixed use tourism, shopping and accommodation development. The plans include public access, open community space and connective pathways with the neighbouring town centre. You can find out about more of the Marina's details via the Bundaberg Now story: https://www.bundabergnow.com//burnett-heads-gateway-marin/

16.01.2022 I've had a couple residents contact me about recent sightings of people on Dr May's Island during its current closure. It is essential that people stay off the island during the closure period to protect seasonal migratory shorebirds. If you do see someone on the island please contact Council immediately so we can get officers down there. Reporting as it happens helps us deter people doing this and educate people who may not realise it is closed. Report by calling 1300 883 699.

15.01.2022 I had the pleasure of joining our Mayor to welcome the Royal Australian Navy patrol boat ADV Cape Inscription to the Port of Bundaberg. Our region has had a long association with the navy through the former HMAS Bundaberg and we're keen to establish a formal relationship between the ADV Cape Inscription and the Bundaberg Region. I also had the opportunity to invite the crew members to be part of our local ANZAC services at Burnett Heads and Elliott Heads. Find out more about the patrol boat's visit and it's capabilities at: https://www.facebook.com/bundabergnow/videos/423123035371751

15.01.2022 Work will be getting underway in mid September to widen Kirby's Road. This is quite a busy road that many Burnett Heads and Port residents use to head into Bundaberg, so I know many people will be happy to see it widened. Currently the road is not wide enough for two vehicles, which means when cars face oncoming traffic they need to head onto the unsealed dirt shoulder of the road. During construction, the road will be subject to traffic management measures with appropriate signage to guide motorists through or around the site. Apologies for any inconvenience, but the end result will be well worth it!

14.01.2022 At the half way point of the school holidays you might be looking for ideas for activities with the kids. This Bundaberg Now guide has plenty of good ideas to consider - https://www.bundabergnow.com//bundaberg-region-september-/

14.01.2022 As a community we can do a lot better when it comes to recycling. Unfortunately our recent sample survey found 52% of recycling bins were contaminated. The vast majority of the contamination was from people putting general waste in the recycling bin. On top of this people are placing recyclable goods in non recyclable plastic bags - which cannot be sorted and ends up in landfill. It's really simple to fix this by not putting the items in the bags! Let's all take the time to educate ourselves and do the right thing by recycling effectively and reducing our waste!

13.01.2022 Plenty of roadwork going on during September and October including a couple of Division 6 roads. It will involve traffic control and at some locations road closures while allowing local traffic. Please view the document for further details.

13.01.2022 Have your say about the proposals for a new Regional Aquatic Centre and the redevelopment of ANZAC Park. If built the centre will create a year-round facility and will enable Council to redevelop ANZAC Park into a vibrant riverside community space. As part of the consultation, Council is asking for residents to share their memories of the ANZAC Pool so we can properly honour its history at the new aquatic centre. You can either attend the information session this weekend or fill in the online survey at: https://www.ourbundabergregion.com.au/1new-bundaberg-region

11.01.2022 Council is seeking a community group to be the host of the official Bundaberg Region Australia Day celebration. This event is subsidised by Council and the successful host will be assisted by Council’s events team who can offer support as part of the organising committee and assisting with event planning and implementation. Find out more at: https://www.bundabergnow.com//australia-day-celebrations/

11.01.2022 This project aims to get a snapshot of the people of our region. The stories will be shared through a series of postcards and will showcase the diverse range of people we have within our local communities. I would love to see some Division 6 residents featured as part of the series. https://www.bundabergnow.com//02/people-and-their-stories/

10.01.2022 Well done everyone! In the past 12 months we've significantly reduced our region's waste going to landfill. We had about 72,000 go to landfill compared to 85,000 tonnes in the 12 months before that. That's about 15 less semi-trailer loads of waste per week! This is thanks to people recycling more and also being more sustainable in their day-to-day lives. Read more about it at: https://www.bundabergnow.com//landfill-waste-disposal-re/

10.01.2022 This is a great opportunity to plan, organise, contribute ideas or simply put your hand up to help out. If you can't make it tonight, but want to contribute then let Daniel know.

10.01.2022 Bundaberg Regional Council will be holding a community grants workshop on September 14th. It's a great opportunity for anyone who is involved in a community group or sports club to gain knowledge on what grants are available and how to put together a successful application. Find out more at: https://www.whatsonbundaberg.com.au//2020-council-s-commun

09.01.2022 I recently shared some of the ways I reuse and recycle materials at home with Bundaberg Now as part of their National Recycling Week coverage. I believe strongly that good environmental outcomes start with what we put in place in our daily lives. I hope these tips are helpful to people and maybe even inspire their own ideas. You can read more about it at: https://www.bundabergnow.com//recycling-tips-for-around-t/

08.01.2022 Changes have been made to the Qunaba Waste Management Facility to enable an easier drop-off of recyclable goods. 08.01.2022 The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence was launched today in Bundaberg and I took part in several events. Firstly I joined community members including my fellow councillors Tracey McPhee, May Mitchell, Vince Habermann and Jack Dempsey for the Red Rose Foundation walk and launching Bundy's 4th red bench. I then joined the Anglican's Mother's Union for their church service against gender based violence. Lastly, at the end of the day I joined my fellow Zontans for their launch of the campaign alongside Mayor Dempsey, Councillor Habermann, Rev Danni Clark, QPS, White Ribbon ambassadors, Traditional Owners, Mother's Union members, Red Rose representatives and other supporters.

07.01.2022 This is a great opportunity for anyone who has a passion for protecting our Great Barrier Reef and is willing to be part of a video shoot on Lady Musgrave Island. CoralWatch is looking for volunteers to appear in this video that aims to encourage people to join their reef citizen science program. All you need to do is send two photos of your face to [email protected] by 5pm today The first photo must be a selfie looking friendly but without smiling, and the second photo is of you smiling. Include your name, age and phone number in the email. Find out more at: https://www.bundabergnow.com//coralwatch-call-on-celebri/

07.01.2022 Great to enjoy Jumanji with my family at Bundaberg Regional Council's drive in movies after a long day of site inspections of waste and recycling at Buxton, Childers and Booyal.

07.01.2022 Work on the Recreational Precinct upgrade is about to start. The Bundaberg Regional Council project will enhance both the entrance and main pavilion facilities, while there will also be improvements to landscaping, lighting, shade cover and seating. Another feature will be the pedestrian friendly avenue that will incorporate public art, historical images and event-specific displays and information. It's great to see a local company undertake this work that will provide a much-needed facelift to a well-used venue. https://www.bundabergnow.com//recreational-precinct-upgr/

01.01.2022 Well done to Elliott Heads State School and Surf Life Saving Queensland for this partnership delivering a great after school program for local children. Surf and water safety is vital for all children. https://www.bundabergnow.com//elliott-heads-state-school-/
