22.01.2022 3/6 what do we do! We at Tanybryn Farm are big on following natures lead. Trying to replicate her brilliance and growing with her natural season.... We only use recycled plastic pots, no new rubber and home compostable packaging. We want to keep old varities alive and grow for taste and enjoyment. While encouraging others to experience the joy of gardening! We work a no chemical minimal soil disturbance system. Not a system we always win, but one that feeds the soul. And if we even use the most simple natural methods of control, you will be the first to know!! I'm very simple in my growing strategy FOOD- is life - our famous gourmet salad brings back taste and enjoyment to greens! FLOWERS - A deep love - a classic luxury and a important part of the food system. PLANTS AND SEEDLINGS - learning - shared knowledge of gardening. ART- because I don't have enough to do! So come see, ask questions and enjoy! 1st Photo by the lovely Alison Plasto
21.01.2022 After having a little read of the comments, it's extremely clear to me just how broken our food system is. And just how little respect people have for the availability of food. There are sooo many issues here.... Farmers becoming bigger to meet contracts of large supermarkets, then unable to support dropping contract prices, pushing long hours and lower wages. A community who has little respect for how or where their food is grown. Paying the big $$ on fancy cars and a speciality viewing programs. However will tell farmers $4 for something that took 3 or 4 months to grow is to much! The assumption that all "farmers" are rich, and those who are not, need to move over to give another one a try. As this will fix the current food culture we are experiencing. That we are a society of the "easy garden" and so the connection with how our food is grown has been completely lost. Peoples knowledge of seasonal produce is completely out of wack, due to hothouse growing and worldwide shipping. When you have to explain why you don't have watermelon available in July. That a few "bad eggs" give the fruit picking industry a bad name. Protection of pickers and workers should be done by local governments! I've heard some horror stories. But also that you can't hire unskilled labour at $20 an hour. When nurses in age care are getting from $18 an hour? Soo many issues and even more that I haven't even bought up here. How can we fix this!? Start supporting your local farmers! Buy at the source. Treat your food as a part of your health plan. Save money buying and cooking seasonal. Don't suggest your small farmers keep up with supermarket prices. They are need to earn a living wage too. When you support local, your money stays local. Beef farmer makes a sale > buys carrots from the veg grower > who hires IT for ordering > who hires a accountant > who pays monthly to have her hair done > who hires out a local shop > ran by the realestate > that goes back to the farmers market to buy the beef. No overseas shipping. Interstate trucking or average food grown for storage purposes. Respect for one of most important thing that sustains life.
21.01.2022 A late one tonight 4/6 How did we get here? When we moved to Tanybryn, we were seeking a sustainable lifestyle, whilst enjoying our careers as a nurse and ...electrician. Eve came along and we quickly realised that she needed that bit extra. I spent years studying and self-educating to make her better through diet, sleep and lifestyle. Going back to work was difficult, so I stayed by her side. It started with a little roadside stall, then an abundance of lettuce led us to our first market. Our little Market Garden began to evolve seemingly on its own. Eve was diagnosed Autism spectrum disorder last November, never has there been so much clarity for our little family. Knowing that it no longer needed fixing, just adjusting. Our garden and our wonderful customers, friends and family all make it possible for me to be available to our girls. The opportunity to work from home, doing something I love is an excellent bonus. Our lives are busy and a little wild, but it suits us. Where to next? Who knows!
19.01.2022 I always want to do more, better and work harder. Sometimes we just need to stop and take a win! Our advanced naturally grown tomatoes are that win. They are amazingly healthy and strong!... And my only wish was I started more varieties. But ill take it! These guys are $10 and available at the farmers market Saturday or from our roadside stall! #takethewin #tomatoes #naturalnursery #sprayfree

14.01.2022 2/6 Where is Tanybryn Farm Tanybryn- noun [tanner- bryn] Origin - Welsh Meaning - The Base of the Hill Our little 20 acre farm is tucked away in it's own littl...e valley at the bottom of our hill. Named by our predecessor, we decided to keep it's heritage alive. Protected from the elements, it thrives. An unusual place for a market garden, but a true sanctuary. It is placed in the very underrated Bethanga, a growing town rich with ideas and progess. Alongside our sister towns of Bellbridge, Talgarno and Granya, we possess some of the loveliest views of lakeside driving and rolling hills. We hold the classic Easter Gymkhana, with the progress of new ideas in farming and small buiness. If you haven't been out our way in a while, its well worth the visit and to keep a close eye on. And it is our Home. Photos 1+ 2 by Bethanga resident Neil https://instagram.com/neilgalloway99?igshid=14keehf7e60yy

07.01.2022 Hi there! Rach from Tanybryn Farm, I will be babysitting the page this week! So follow along our six part story and learn a little about who we are ... 1/6 Who are we at Tanybryn? I'm a fulltime mum and a part time farmer, if there's such a thing! I'm incredibly passionate about self education, health, arts and flowers. Working on our property allows me to work all these interests into one. All the while looking after and being available to our girls. Although this is mainly my gig, I'm not without my helpers and cheerleaders. Our Girl Eve, although not willing to get her hands dirty, can give an incredible and quite accurate tour of our garden anyday. Our little Willa strip's flowers like no two year old l've ever seen, however needs close monitoring as she likes to make her own planting plans! And there's my rock and biggest support, my husband Pat. Who never says no to any of my unusual requests. A full time electrician, his favourite gig is "making mum's gardenbeds" as his fathers day card lovingly states. And we are the Pigotts.

02.01.2022 5/6 How? Long days, late nights, a little dash of chaos and a lot of passion. There is no paid leave, Monday to Friday or knocks off time. Because it isn't a jo...b, it's a lifestyle. One that our local people do exceptionally well. So come down, keep your money local and support our amazing producers. With the bonus of experiencing top quality. See you bright and early!
