23.01.2022 Here’s an update from Bluey’s ~

22.01.2022 Reporting on the past few months ~ I’ve been snorkeling the shoreline between sandbags and rock groins along the Esplanade on Pumicestone Passage most days during this year. The fish life is spectacular with whiting, Bream, butter Bream, Juvenile Reef Fish, Butterfly Fish, stone fish, schooling anchovies and herring and other tiny fish. Water quality is very high even after the rainwater runoff. There must have been considerable saturation due to the dry, because not much silt or tannin made it into the waterway. The channel along shore between the rock groins is deepening and Bribie seems to be getting further away from shore on the northern section as it wraps around itself with the tides. Hoping you all are finding opportunity to enjoy Pumicestone Passage and it’s pristine beauty.

19.01.2022 A new sign is in place where vandalism has occurred to shoreline vegetation this year. Volunteers in coordination with key stakeholders have worked tirelessly to plant mangroves and other sand replenishing creepers as part of the fish habitat shoreline Restoration Project. These mangroves will serve as habitat for an abundance of marine species that require shaded root structures in which to breed. The mangroves serve to stabilise the shoreline preventing erosion from wash and wave/wind action. The alternative to natural filtration systems such as these, is rock walls, deeper channels and loss of numerous species of breeders. Pollution and loss of water quality is often the result. Please Report vandalism to the Fiswatch Hotline ~ 1 800 017 116 Or The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries 13 25 23

11.01.2022 The breakthrough this morning.

11.01.2022 This rare Olive Ridley turtle washed up on the beach recently. Since not many people will have seen one of these turtles I thought I would share some photos. T...hey are a smaller turtle, more round in shape and have more scutes or scales down the carapace. This one was unfortunately deceased. If you find a turtle on the beach, dead or alive, please contact me or Turtlecare (0437 559 067) All turtle work carried out for the Queensland Turtle Research Project. See more

04.01.2022 Anyone want to join me for a land based clean up along the shore of Currimundi lake, Wurtulla side, during this coming week? I just went and had a look, there's... a large amount of microplastics and the odd larger item. Would be sometime between midday and 5pm, depending on the low tide of the day we go. Will just do an hour or 2. We'll be getting in the bushes, and reeds and might get a tad wet. I'm thinking of adding this site as a regular clean up spot that we document, as I clean it up every 6 months of so anyway. Can snorkle there actually
