25.01.2022 We hope you have noticed that our message board at the front of the Taradale Fire Station is being changed weekly with fire safety messages. We would like to congratulate you Taradale on being a Fire Safe Community. Please feel free to visit our volunteers at the station any Sunday morning during the fire season to chat about your fire safety plans or to ask any questions. 25.01.2022 Happy New Year Taradale !!!

25.01.2022 The fire danger period hasn't been declared for Chewton yet, but it is in place in parts of northern Vic, so it's not too far off for us. Now is a good time to ...clean up and take care of any green waste you're planning on burning off. But before you burn off, please call 1800 668 511 to register your burn. You can also check out the CFA's advice on burnoff safety at https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/burning-off See more

24.01.2022 Bushfire - Am I At Risk? Victoria is one of the most fire-prone areas in the world. Understanding your level of risk is the first step in knowing what to do before and during a fire. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/am-i-at-risk

23.01.2022 How well do you know fire? Plan. Act. Survive.

22.01.2022 SECOND ILLEGAL BURNOFF FOR THE DAY At 2.36 this afternoon Woodend was called to column of smoke sighting near Straws Lane. Woodend Tanker 1 and FCV were joined ...by Newham Slip-on and Tan ker and Hesket-Kerrie. After a search the fire was located, and with Zero Tolerance Police were called. If you do an illegal burn during the Fire Danger Period is highly likely you will be charged and receive a summons. Ignorance is no excuse, especially where we live. The information is readily available on the CFA website, MRSC website and Woodend CFA website - so a simple search in advance could save you a deal of money. See more

22.01.2022 Yesterday 25 firefighters and 7 trucks attended a burnoff out of control just south of Echuca. They quickly brought the fire under control and spent another 2 h...ours blacking out. Property owners have legal obligations when burning off. Failing to comply with local council by-laws and state legislation can lead to a fine. 19.01.2022 BURNING OFF NOW COULD BURN A HOLE IN YOUR POCKET At 10.44 this morning Woodend and Carlsruhe CFA were called to an illegal burnoff during the Fire Danger Period.... On arrival it was discovered a large burn in place. Due to the Fire Danger Period coming in place last Monday, the CFA and Police now have a Zero Tolerance to anyone burning off - Police MUST be called to the scene and it highly likely offenders will receive a summons to court. The fire was quickly extinguished - vehicles attending Woodend T1 and T2, Carlsruhe T1 and FCV. See more

18.01.2022 Do you know Your Total Fire Ban District? Victoria is divided into nine Fire Districts which are based on council boundaries. Make sure you always know what fire district you are in whether at home or travelling. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restric/find-your-fire-district

15.01.2022 Are you guilty of leaving doors open at night? The photo below shows the outward-facing door after a kitchen fire. The inward-facing door was completely destr...oyed. The level of protection your doors give you in a fire depends on their quality, age and fire-protection qualities, however even the lowest quality door will give you vital time in a fire, but ONLY if they are SHUT. Also make sure you have a Smoke Alarm in your room! Add closing doors to your nighttime routine - it could save your life! Pete Learmonth

14.01.2022 Grassfires can start anywhere and spread quickly. Reduce your risk when it’s safe to do so. Slash, mow, graze and spray grass near your home and assets, and create fuel breaks. Take care when using chainsaws, lawnmowers, tractors, welders and other machinery on warm days they can all start fires accidentally. If you’re caught in a grassfire move to somewhere with minimal vegetation, such as a ploughed or well-grazed paddock. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/grassfires-rural

12.01.2022 PREPARE FOR BAD WEATHER With severe weather including damaging winds, heavy rainfall and the potential for flash flooding forecast in our area tomorro...w, the Victoria State Emergency Service has asked us all to prepare. Park your car undercover and away from trees. Clean your gutters, downpipes and drains to ensure they are not blocked. Check that loose items such as outdoor furniture, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Save the VICSES number in your phone so you can call quickly if you need assistance due to storm damage: 132 500. Thanks in advance to our wonderful local Woodend and Gisborne SES units who may well have a busy few days ahead. Take care and stay safe all - severe weather has the potential to be destructive and dangerous which is why preparation is so important.

09.01.2022 Understanding Warnings and Emergency Information You should never wait to receive an official warning before you leave. Fires can start quickly and threaten homes and lives within minutes. Understand the levels of warnings and don’t expect warnings to be issued in any particular order. The first warning you may get could be an Emergency Warning. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrict/about-warnings

09.01.2022 Do you know the difference between a Total Fire Ban and the Fire Danger Period? There are different restrictions that apply in the open air on days of Total Fire Ban and during the Fire Danger Period. Understand the difference between the two to avoid penalties. Total Fire Ban (TFB) Total Fire Bans are declared by CFA on days when fires are likely to spread rapidly and be difficult to control. Fire Danger Period (FDP) CFA declares Fire Danger Periods by municipalities in ...the country area of Victoria during periods of increased fire risk. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/can See more

07.01.2022 Last night a crew from Golden Square and Fire Rescue Victoria’s station 73 responded to a fire in a laundry. The home owner arrived home to find there had been... a fire in their laundry and called 000 but due to basic fire science and closing the laundry door the fire was unable to take hold and self extinguished due to a lack of oxygen. Crews ensured there was no fire extension into the rest of the house and returned to station. This is perfect example as to why you should close the doors to rooms that aren’t being used, especially whilst you aren’t home as it can reduce the fire progression throughout the property and always have working smoke alarms.

04.01.2022 It was great to welcome back our Juniors this morning. We haven't seen them since March last year. Had a good time playing with our little fire trucks and working out how to get all the charged lines we needed with the equipment available. 02.01.2022 AN UNACCEPTABLE RISK Over this weekend just passed, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and CFA (Country Fire Authority) located no le...ss than 87 unattended or abandoned campfires throughout the state. Several of these unmonitored campfires subsequently spread causing grass and scrub fires in various locations across Victoria. The campfire pictured was located in the Macedon Ranges over the weekend and shared by the Macedon Ranges Towing team. This is NOT what we want to be seeing in the lead-up to the 2020/2021 bushfire season as warm temperatures and strong winds dry out surrounding grassland and bush. Please, for the safety of our community do the right thing and ensure all campfires are never left unattended and are always fully-extinguished.
