24.01.2022 STOP NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVEL Non-essential travel to regional NSW towns and remote communities must be cancelled and Easter holidaymakers should indefinitely p...ostpone their visits, in line with the nationwide effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone has been clearly asked to stay at home unless they are -shopping for essentials - are receiving medical care - are undertaking daily exercise or - are attending work or school. Now is not the time to travel from metropolitan areas to regional NSW for a holiday, for meetings, or even to relocate yourselves for a longer period - the safest thing you can do right now is stay in your community. This also applies to people living in regional NSW towns, because the virus does not discriminate and does not care about borders, so now is not the time to travel between towns, whether it be for meetings or even to visit family and friends. To help slow the spread we need to do the right thing by our families, friends and neighbours, which means staying 1.5 metres away from others, avoid social gatherings, wash hands and ensure that if you are sick, that you self-isolate. City residents should stay away and not use the upcoming Easter break to try and relocate themselves to regional NSW in an attempt to escape quarantine, which would be extremely dangerous for rural and remote communities. Help is available if people need more information. If anyone needs a hand please go to COVID-19 hotline on 13 77 88 or go to www.nsw.gov.au. 2LT KandosRylstone 2 Towns but 1 Community.Bathurst City Life The Village Voice 2bs 95.1 FM Oberon Community Notice Board Oberon Review Blayney Chronicle

22.01.2022 Deputy Mayor Mark Kellam and I were able to access the Jenolan Caves/Kanangra Boyd fire grounds this week. My thanks to the authorities for facilitating this an...d escorting us. Regardless of how many briefing sessions you may attend nothing really prepares you for the experience of standing in the middle of a devastated area and visually imagining the awful situation that the firefighters and emergency personnel must have faced during the emergency. Once more I can only reiterate the utmost respect and gratitude we all feel for these men and women and their commitment. Jenolan is a unique environment and thanks to the great effort put in by all the actual Caves House area is relatively untouched. The caves themselves are unaffected. Four buildings were lost including the Jenolan RFS Shed. This loss has been felt keenly by the brigade, the shed was invested with so much history, the loss of memorabilia and records etc is devastating. The actual building is a council asset and an insurance claim has already been lodged to replace it - sadly some of the contents are irreplaceable. Other infrastructure within the karst area sustained damage. So many of our local RFS volunteers, NPWS staff and community members have an emotional attachment to Jenolan Caves and Kanangra, an association that goes back several generations.......this connection and knowledge of the terrain played a vital role in the successful defence against what was a ferocious fire. Crews are working hard in difficult conditions to monitor spotover fires, make the whole area safe and mop up. I spoke with Jenolan Caves Manager Jodie Anderson who along with her team are working hard to ensure the Caves Experience is back in business as soon as possible, being a NSW Government World Heritage listed asset it is hoped that the NSW Government ensure resources are available to assist. On a positive note, amongst the devastation life carries on, the endangered Brush Tailed Rock Wallaby population is intact and as you can see from the attached photo taken in an area burnt out before Christmas in Kanangra Boyd NP, trees are springing back to life. Who knows what native plant seeds may have been waiting patiently in the ground for a fire to set them free to grow, it will be interesting to watch the vegetation recover.

18.01.2022 Please DO NOT GIVE WATER TO KOALAS BY POURING WATER FROM BOTTLES INTO THEIR MOUTHS. PLACE A BOWL OF WATER ON THE GROUND OR POUR THE WATER IN TO YOUR HAT/HELMET/...CUP ETC AND HOLD NEAR KOALAS MOUTH SO THAT IT CAN LAP AT IT With all the facebook posts about wonderful people caring for wildlife amidst the fire and heat disasters over these past weeks a silent tragedy is happening. Koalas are DYING because people are trying their best to help but dont understand how a koala actually drinks. The little Koala seen in the middle picture is Arnie. He comes from a little town north of Bairnsdale. Arnie survived the heat wave AND fires with only minor burns to his feet and hands. His burns were healing. He survived losing his mum and the loss of his home. He was found by some very caring people who did what any human would do when they find a distressed animal, and offered him a drink from their bottle of water. They were just trying to help. They didnt know that it is dangerous for Koalas to drink this way. They didnt know that Koalas usually get most of their water via the gum leaves that they eat and they dont often drink water, but when they do, they are face down and lapping small amounts with their tongue. They didnt know that when a Koala holds it head up and takes in too much water, it can easily get in to their lungs and cause Aspiration Pneumonia, which is usually fatal. This is exactly what happened to little Arnie. Despite a mammoth rescue effort involving all three emergency services and wildlife rescuers he died more specifically he drowned. It was heartbreaking for everyone involved. That is why we want to share this post. So people can help in the best way possible. If you find a Koala in need of help in the heat or in a fire zone, please DO NOT OFFER IT WATER BY TIPPINY IT FROM A BOTTLE OR CUP INTO THEIR MOUTHS AND NEVER FORCE A KOALA TO DRINK. IF it is safe to do so then catch it in a blanket and transport to the nearest shelter, otherwise take note of its location and let someone know the details. Please note that Koalas can cause nasty injuries so if the Koala is resisting do not try and pick it up. If you are nowhere near help then the best way to hydrate koalas is to PLACE A BOWL OF WATER ON THE GROUND OR POUR THE WATER IN TO YOUR HAT/HELMET/CUP ETC AND HOLD NEAR KOALAS MOUTH SO THAT IT CAN LAP AT IT, FACE DOWN. PLEASE remember that Koalas are arboreal and nocturnal. If you see one sitting on the ground during the day then please contact a wildlife rescue organisation. They are usually very stressed if they are at the point of allowing human interaction, so please do not try and take selfies with the animal as you are just causing continued stress. PLEASE share this. With all the videos going viral of people giving them water from their bottles, the koalas have an added risk, during an already dangerous time! Please tell all of your friends... and if you see a video of someone pouring water out for a Koala comment on it saying: "PLEASE DO NOT GIVE KOALAS WATER BY POURING IT. JUST LET THEM LAP AT THEIR OWN PACE. IF IT GETS IN THEIR LUNGS IT COULD KILL THEM.

09.01.2022 Thank you so much to everyone for inquiring when our tours are re-opening, we love that youre as keen as we are to get back into our beautiful caves We under...stand that with the July holidays coming that people are trying to plan where to go and its great to hear everyone wanting to come and visit us. The big question has been can we re-open our tours with the new easing of restrictions being announced on July 1. While it does bring us closer we must ensure the safety of our visitors and staff first and foremost and there are a lot of considerations concerning the re-opening of the cave tours. What this means is that we unfortunately cannot open the tours on July 1, we will continue to make assessments to allow visitor activities to recommence in line with government advice on how we should manage health and safety risks to visitors and staff, as well as available resourcing to maintain facilities. While we conduct the assessments and await the governments advice on the tours we have a range of above ground experiences available to guests, including walking tracks, wildlife spotting, a variety of food and beverage options from take away, to dine in and high tea experiences. We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and enthusiasm about visiting and we cant wait to have you back Keep an eye on our social channels and website as when we do have a date they will be the first places youll see it

09.01.2022 Science for Wildlife are pleased to announce that all of our koalas, saved from the recent bushfires, have been returned to their home in the Blue Mountains of Australia. We rescued these marsupials, who are representatives of the most genetically diverse population of koalas in Australia, from the devastating mega-fire that moved through the area in December 2019. They were sheltered in safety and cared for by the amazing staff at Taronga Zoo, with a team effort between Taronga and Science for Wildlife in keeping them fed. On Monday 23rd and Wednesday 25th March, they were reintroduced back into the eucalyptus forests by our team, with the support of San Diego Zoo Global.
