05.01.2022 Ipswich teen takes out Ekka country music comp An Ipswich teenager has sung her way to more than $6,000 in cash and prizes, after winning the Open category in the Royal Queensland Shows (Ekka) Country Music Showdown Competition presented by Ringers Western. Hannah Jones, who goes by the stage name Hannah Marie, impressed the four competition judges at XXXX Stockmens Bar and Grill on the final day of the 140th Ekka (August 20), performing the song Whiskey Lips.... The 17 year old from Bellbird Park hit all the right notes to beat 19 other entrants in the 17+ years of age category, to claim a prize package including a studio recording session with Taramalin Sound, $2,000 cash courtesy of Ringers Western and a Renee Brazel photography session. Fellow emerging artists Amber Goldsmith from Nanango and Ebony Wickham from Brisbane took out second and third place respectively, with all contestants backed by live band The Kelly Gang. The annual Ekka country music competition received a record 33 entries this year across its Open and Junior sections. RNA Chief Executive Brendan Christou said the competition, which was in its fourth year, had already unearthed some future country music stars. Last years Open category winner Heath Milner went on to become a contestant on the Voice AU where he was gifted a ticket to Nashville by Boy George to continue his music dream, while 2016s Junior winner Felicity Kircher is working on an album to be released next year, Mr Christou said. I would like to congratulate all of our place getters this year and I look forward to seeing where their music careers take them after getting their break at Ekka.
