25.01.2022 H O W C H E E K Y this little Blue Winged Kookaburra was passed onto us at TARC to complete his final stages of rehabilitation, after being rescued from a cattle station and undergoing vet treatment. Sadly his injuries will prevent him from being released back into the wild. Any wild native animals unfit for release still get cared for by wildlife parks, and must be listed on QSMP, the Queensland Species Management Program. And just because we have rehabilitated him, doesnt mean Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas get to keep him! The QSMP program ensures these animals get to partake in ongoing breeding programs within captivity, to ensure the species is around for future generations.

25.01.2022 SUGARY SWEET This teeny tiny Sugar Glider was brought into TARC just hanging on to life suffering from dehydration. After fluids and stabilization in our clinic, the baby Sugar Glider was passed on to a specialized carer. Did you know that baby Sugar Gliders are called joeys?

25.01.2022 A timely reminder for one and all! It is the season where we will start to see more and more baby birds needing assistance as they start to fledge and the monsoonal weather picks up and plays havoc with precarious placed nests! if you find a sweet little thing that needs help, here’s some pointers on what to do, and as always you can bring into our care anytime!

25.01.2022 A C T S O F K I N D N E S S A big thank you to the Duplanty family from Newport Beach California USA who visited TARC on a "Your Wildlife Habitat" tour. So moved that they made this pouch that Rosie,a rescue Agile wallaby, is totally loving!... And then our hearts melted with the special hand drawn "Thank Roo!" LOVE IT! and special note: "Thank you Wildlife Habitat, Thank you so much for the awesome tour! The tour changed my life in 3 ways: 1) Kangaroos are now my favorite animals. 2) I learned so much about Australian animals...and, 3) Wildlife Habitat is the best zoo!" TARC and Wildlife Habitat are passionate and committed to conserving Australian wildlife ensuring they thrive and nature is cherished to be enjoyed by future generations and to inspire every visitor to care for our shared environment. These stories are told alongside our immersive experiences through our commitment to Observation-Appreciation-Conservation that connects people worldwide to the magic of our Australian Wildlife.

23.01.2022 Well hello there.... what brings you into TARC- Tropical Animal Rehabilitation Centre? I am a kangaroo joey. You are a strange looking kangaroo! wheres your long ears? Wheres your long tail? Wheres your whiskers? and why is your fur all spikey? Oh well..... lets be friends anyways...

22.01.2022 My what big ears you have...and what big whiskers you have! This native Rat-scal came in our care at TARC recently. Sadly, this little fella had injuries too severe, and he was unable to be saved. Our heart breaks with each loss of any of our native wildlife.

21.01.2022 Hand feeding a wild rescued baby Bush Stone Curlew

20.01.2022 Wheres your mumma? These little guys - Magpie Geese goslings ( and another 4 of their siblings) were brought into care at TARC back in March. They were found with out their mother. A couple of days care at TARC, and then a local Wildlife Carer up in the nearby tablelands was found for them to continue to aid their development. Raising them on a property with a huge dam, they were cared for until they reached the stage for wild release. This happened just recently at Hast...ies Dam, a large wetlands area on the Tablelands. One of our TARC team went up to visit them prior to release, and the carer has visited them since release, and all 6 are doing great! We love it when a story has a happy ending! A big shout out to our local carer network who look after all wildlife great and small out of the kindness of their hearts and wallets. We salute you all See more

20.01.2022 Who knows what this cool creature is!!! An Echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus) was brought into TARC- Tropical Animal Rehabilitation Centre located at Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas last week by a concerned local, as it was receiving a bit of a rough time in the wild. Check out that beak!!! We looked him over and he was fit and healthy ( and BIG and spiky!) so we were able to release him the same day to where he was found! Some days our jobs are just brilliant! ( most days actually!! )

19.01.2022 F E E D M E N O W !!! Most parents out there will know this feeling!!! Many of our patients brought into TARC are of the feathered variety, and anyone who has cared for these little ones knows its a pretty intensive undertaking!!! But hey, just cause some patients are demanding doesnt mean we are not up for a challenge! Care for one, care for all we say!

16.01.2022 Rainforestation is now live! Keeper Sharni talks to us about all things Macropod

15.01.2022 What you lookin at Willis?.... Suspected of being hit by a car - the 3rd highest reason TARC receives patients- this Frogmouth arrived into our care. It was sent for necessary vet treatment, and has come back into our care for its rehabilitation. Currently in "soft release" it is this stage of rehabilitation where these patients are placed in a free flight aviary. Here they build up appropriate wing muscles to be able to maintain sustained and prolonged flight in readiness for wild release. Did we mention we love our wildlife?

15.01.2022 Our rescued Black Faced Cuckoo Strike called out for his dinner! This little guy will be released into the wild when hes ready

15.01.2022 Its was just like Christmas around here when we received a well needed care package from Animal Rescue Cooperative (ARC). Our exploded with gratitude at all the wonderful and downright practical and necessary care items we received and from the people who helped put this together and sent it! #wecouldntbeluckier #heartfeltthanks

14.01.2022 This older larger male Spectacled Flying Fox was brought into TARC recently. He was found on the ground and struggling to breathe. We love that our community cares, however this is a timely reminder to not handle these animals unless you are vaccinated. They do carry disease, so please call us and we can send a vaccinated team member to the rescue site. Too dehydrated for us to administer oral fluids , he was rushed to an experienced carer from Daintree where we was given IP fluids. On this occasion, it was not enough to get him across the line and we lost him. Take care out there and remember to only handle animals if safe to do so.

14.01.2022 Its CROC OCLOCK live with Wildlife Habitat! Todays episode is all about the Estuarine Crocodile, the worlds largest living reptile!

14.01.2022 This is a little red Flying Fox! A member of the most widespread species of megabats in Australia! Found locally caught up in a fish pond and unable to get out, it was bought into TARC in the morning. By the afternoon with a little help from some hydrating fluids and some rest time, it was much perkier. It has been passed on to an experienced wildlife carer, who has named her Ariel ( yes from the little mermaid! get the connection ) and will be wild released when ready

13.01.2022 L O V E If you dont know TARC- Tropical Animal Rehabilitation Centre get into it. A rescue center that takes every animal in... snakes included...eeek! every little bit helps!

12.01.2022 Who is in charge do you think? PJ is a striped possum that was hand raised by one of our keepers in TARC many years ago now! ( little old man he is!) And dont you think PJ thinks hes in charge There is a LOT of paperwork and record keeping involved with rescued animals, and PJ is doing his bit to assist! Since January this year we have had just over 110 patients brought into care by members of the public. We consider ourselves lucky to be able to offer this service to the community!

12.01.2022 "More" "MORE" "MORE!!" This Black Faced Cuckoo Strike isnt exactly shy when it comes to letting the carers know hes hungry! This baby bird was saved ater being found abandoned by his parents and will be released back into the wild.

11.01.2022 Our Joey Mumma's have their hands full at times! These 2 were certainly keeping keeper Emma busy!

10.01.2022 T A R C Theres a lot of care and passion that goes into our animal rehabilitaion centre. Each animal is given exactly what he or she needs to get back to where they belong. We use species-specific formulas and diets, keep them warm and dry, a lot of care and passion.

09.01.2022 They say it takes all shapes and sizes to make the world go round... looks like someone had a good feed, but not enough winter warm to help digest dinner! This small Jungle carpet python was located in the front of a locals car! ( nice warm winter spot!). He is now in our care and is recovering well, whilst he is being monitored for some minor wounds to his scales. He also has a has a nice warm heat pad to curl up on to help digest his dinner! Now thats the kinda care we do!

07.01.2022 L I T T L E M I N N I E We had this sweet baby Spectacled Flying Fox, affectionately known as skinny Minnie, spend the night in TARC. With the bat of her eyes she had us gushing. ... We wrapped her up snug as a bug, gave her vital fluids and a dummy. After some much needed rest she went to a qualified bat handler for further care.

06.01.2022 Soooooo we recently had PJ helping out with the paperwork in our medical centre. And every helper needs a reward! PJ is chowing down on his favourite snack - crickets!

05.01.2022 B L E S S ! A baby Bush Stone Curlew was bought into TARC recently, believed to have been orphaned. Keeper Chris was right on the action, and had this little dude eating within the hour! He is growing day by day along with his personality. He is in a soft release area at TARC, still feeding , until it is big enough and strong enough to look after itself and be wild released!

05.01.2022 If you dont know TARC, get to - such a good cause, if you love animals TARC- Tropical Animal Rehabilitation Centre

04.01.2022 THE REASON FOR THE SEASON Caring for all those who need a little extra help @tarcqld This sweet little duckling is looking forward to Santas visit.

04.01.2022 B L E S S H I M Just recently we had a care parcel arrive from Animal Rescue Cooperative (ARC) and it was put straight to good use. Meet Paddy! A little male Red-legged Pademelon.( our keepers / carers are clever with names !) This little fella was brought into TARC- Tropical Animal Rehabilitation Centre after a concerned cyclist saw his mum dead on the side of road and decided to pouch check her! And this is the result! Little Paddy is doing well and has been taken on by one of our keepers Jackie! She will be his pademum until he is fit for wild release ! Thanks Jackie!!! We u!

03.01.2022 O M G H E A R T M E L T S Say a big hello to the charming little Puk! Puk is a Red-legged pademelon joey! Puk was found up the Julatten range, about 30 minutes north west of Port Douglas, without his mum. A local family brought him into our care. From there, our Wildlife Habitat team leader Hollie volunteered her time and took on the role of a "Wallamum" - Puks surrogate mumma. This is a labour of love for our volunteer keeper carers, who have to wake up sometimes 4 times during the night to feed and toilet these little ones as they are growing. Big thumbs up to Hollie, as Puk was recently released back into the wild after several months in care! #nobetterfeeling

03.01.2022 H E A R T T A R C Calling all animal lovers!!!! Over the Valentines weekend Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas you can purchase a $2. love heart to write a message to your favourite Wildlife sweetie, 100% of these proceeds will be donated to TARC- Tropical Animal Rehabilitation Centre

02.01.2022 COMFORT. CARE. COMPASSION. These little Finches were oprphaned and are currently recovering at TARC Tropical Animal Rehabilitation Centre They will be treated and rehabilitated.

01.01.2022 #Angrybird! This White capped Noddy (Anous minutus) was recently brought into TARC- Tropical Animal Rehabilitation Centre. This bird is a type of Tern, and being a sea bird is found off the eastern coast line of Australia, and islands of the Great Barrier Reef. This little guy had good reason to look cranky, as he was suffering with bad injuries. Seabirds often require specialist care, so he was taken straight to our Vet. Not all our stories have a happy ending, and sadly this little fella, although in the best possible hands, didnt make it through the night.

01.01.2022 SNAKE RELEASE || Thanks to our Wildlife Keepers Emma, Hollie and Kyle for the great video of a snake climbing a tree. They had rescued it earlier and went for a climb on its release. Climbing vertically isnt easy, as anyone who has climbed a rope in gym class can agree. Although snakes dont have limbs, they also use muscular force to climb trees, which they create by firmly wrapping their bodies around the trunk of a tree. Nature is awesome!

01.01.2022 SPLISH SPLASH watch this sweet joey take a bath The incredable passion of our Wildlife Keepers caring for a rescue joey at TARC- Tropical Animal Rehabilitation Centre
