24.01.2022 Preparing for NAIDOC is always a busy time. Uncle Russell Saunders, Benn Saunders, Josh Wood and Tannika Lewis along with Aboriginal students have been busy preparing the brick wall mural background as this will be a part of the Taree High School NAIDOC week workshops.

12.01.2022 Taree High School Aboriginal dance group. In preparation for NAIDOC 2020 Tannika Lewis and the Aboriginal dance group were extremely busy creating new dance costumes. The group learnt how to design and make their own skirts made out of raffia, painted on their clothing and learn weaving skills. The Taree High School Aboriginal girls and boys dance group also performed for the first time this year on Tuesday 10th November, they all commented on how great it felt to be able to dance again.

11.01.2022 Deadly Door/Window Decoration Tannika Lewis, Josh Wood and students entered the Deadly Door Decoration challenge and designed an art work to represent Always Was Always Will Be. The students had great input and identified that they wanted to include the Biripi shark and the Gathang name for Taree (Djarii).

11.01.2022 NAIDOC Always Was Always Will Be car procession Due to COVID19 NAIDOC 2020 has commenced celebrations in a very different way than previous years. On Monday the 9th November Biripi Community NAIDOC week celebrations began with a NAIDOC Always Was Always Will Be car procession. Elder in Residence Uncle Russell Saunders and Aboriginal Learning support officers Josh Wood and Tannika Lewis along with the year 11 Aboriginal students participated in the procession event with pride. Staff and students decorated the bus with Gathang language posters and Aboriginal flags. The procession began at the Manning Entertainment Centre and ended at the Purfleet Aboriginal Lands Council.

09.01.2022 LOVE BITES This week we were excited to welcome representatives from a range of external services to run LOVE BITES with Year 10. Love Bites is a national respectful relationships educational program that focuses on the development of respectful relationships and violence prevention for young people aged 15 17 years. After engaging in a range of discussions and activities our students then got creative. Our Year 10 students did really well to be engaged and interactive thr...oughout this program and created some wonderful art and music. Our thanks to the services that came in for the 2 days.
