22.01.2022 Fancy a parkrun in the Northern Territory? It could be one of the first to restart in Australia. Have a read of the info below for more updates. We will be back!... COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update Dear all, Those of you who have followed these weekly updates since early April will know that, whilst we wouldn’t rule anything out, our initial preference has been that we would only start entire parkrun countries at a time. This was based on a number of factors, but largely that the complexity of supporting numerous varied regulations, as smaller regions updated their guidance (often on a daily basis), was not practical or scalable. We also felt that, over time, countries themselves would tend toward single strategies being applied to their entire populations. It is now clear, however, that this will not necessarily be the case and that sticking to our ‘entire country at a time’ preference may result in some locations being delayed considerably and unnecessarily. This despite it being safe for them to operate, and with their local guidelines allowing them to do so. Therefore, having taken time to consider the practicalities and logistics, we are now looking to start the process of reopening sub-nationally in some locations. For example, Cape Pembroke Lighthouse parkrun in the Falkland Islands and parkrun events in Australia’s Northern Territory will likely be among the first to restart. These events are geographically remote, difficult to travel to, and have clear and specific local guidelines that permit us to return. At the same time we are also exploring opportunities across more complex situations. For example, within some countries we are seeing significant differences between infection levels and associated public health guidelines (such as across the US). And in others, whilst there isn’t necessarily a significant variation with regards to the prevalence of the virus, different regions are still choosing alternative routes forward (such as the four home nations of the United Kingdom). Importantly, and as has always been the case, we will not reopen events where their delivery (in line with our published COVID-19 Framework) does not fit clearly within government or public health guidelines for their region or may result in breaching participant limits. Also, where guidance is ambiguous and clarity is required, we will take the time to seek that clarity before moving forward. Thanks, as always, for your support and patience. parkrun Global Limited, Unit 3, Lower Deck, Phoenix Wharf, Twickenham, Middlesex, England, TW1 3DY. Company number: 09411750 Forward Unsubscribe

21.01.2022 Welcome back South Australia....Um! Not so fast... We will be back! ... COVID-19 (Coronavirus) global update Dear all, It was wonderful to see events start back in Namibia at the weekend, the fifth parkrun territory to welcome back events since the Coronavirus pandemic paused parkrun across the world in March. We were looking forward to reopening in South Australia this coming Saturday, but sadly new infections and a subsequent two week state-wide lockdown will mean our reopening will be delayed there by at least two more weeks. In more positive news we are still working towards the reopening of parkruns in Queensland on 28 November. It’s particularly exciting to see how normal things are in places where we have been able to return. Events are operating well within the COVID-19 Framework, the Virtual Volunteer timing and scanning app is proving to be a huge success, and participation is pretty-much identical to pre-COVID-19 levels. Perhaps most encouragingly, and despite the lengthy pause around the world, the growth of parkrun events in open countries continues, most notably in Japan where we will welcome Momoi Harappa Koen parkrun, Tokyo, this weekend and a further four events in Japan the Saturday after. We do also understand the frustration and disappointment in communities where we are currently unable to return but we do see signs of improvement and reasons to be positive, and every week feels like another positive step forward. We look forward to the day when all parkrun events around the world are back. Until then, through our digital communication channels and (not)parkrun we are here for you. Thanks for your continued support. parkrun Global Limited, Unit 3, Lower Deck, Phoenix Wharf, Twickenham, Middlesex, England, TW1 3DY. Company number: 09411750 Forward Unsubscribe

19.01.2022 While things look bleak overseas we are on the right track as far as known cases go in Qld,NSW,VIC and SA. Here’s hoping ! COVID-19 (Coronavirus) global update... Dear all, With the reopening of events in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Guernsey and the Isle of Man last weekend, we saw 103 events and over 10,000 participants at parkruns across four countries. It’s also worth noting that it took us six-and-a-half years to reach this milestone in April 2011, a feat that we’ve achieved in just five weeks since events returned (second time around) in New Zealand. And there’s more good news on the horizon: Namibia is set to reopen on Saturday 14 November, with events in South Australia returning a week after on 21 November. These are positive steps that we should all celebrate. Slowly, things are returning to normal in many places around the world, and we are bringing back parkrun events as quickly as we can where restrictions and permissions allow. We do recognise however that the news isn’t positive everywhere. The announcement earlier today that Great Run Local in the UK has closed is a reminder that, sadly, the longer this goes on, the more we risk losing opportunities for structured, physical activity and all of the benefits it brings. Importantly, we continue to call for the decisions that are made to consider all available evidence, particularly around outdoor transmission of COVID-19. It is vital that if we make decisions to prevent or remove opportunities for communities to be physically active and social, the cost of doing so must be weighed against the risks of these activities going ahead. Finally, for those of you facing the prospect of an extended period without parkrun, please know that we are here for you too. Although we may not be able to hold physical events and meet in the normal way, our digital channels remain open and (not)parkrun continues to bring communities together virtually. 16.01.2022 Northern Territory open. Tassie and W A to open soon. We will be back! COVID-19 (Coronavirus) global update... Dear all, As 2020 rumbles on, and with it the global efforts to navigate the COVID-19 Pandemic, it’s increasingly the case that people around the world are being impacted in vastly different ways. At parkrun we see evidence of this every single day, where some of our communities are largely back to a pre-virus normal, whilst others are continuing to live under tight restrictions. Wherever you are reading this update, please know we are thinking of you and the whole parkrun family is with you. In positive news, it was great to see 3,700 different people walk, jog, run, or volunteer across 33 parkrun events in three different countries on Saturday. And it’s important that, particularly at times like these, we celebrate victories, however small they may seem to be. Before the end of October, we also hope to reopen events in Poland, Tasmania, Western Australia, Japan, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man, which would take us to over 100 weekly parkrun events for the first time since March this year. And with our Southern Hemisphere communities now moving into their summer, we hope that the virus will retreat enough to enable more events in those regions to reopen relatively soon. However, over half of our events are in Northern Hemisphere countries, where winter is approaching and, typically, the virus is increasing. And it’s in these communities where various forms of restrictions are being imposed, leading to increased social isolation. We continue to believe that outdoor environments are relatively safe, that events such as parkrun are incredibly beneficial for our health and wellbeing, and that robust evidence must underpin all decisions to restrict access to physical activity. We are getting through this, together. parkrun Global Limited, Unit 3, Lower Deck, Phoenix Wharf, Twickenham, Middlesex, England, TW1 3DY. Company number: 09411750 Forward Unsubscribe

15.01.2022 Maybe if we all put a parkrun return on our Christmas wish list? We will be back! ... parkrun Australia COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update: 12 November Dear all, Since our last fortnightly update we have been encouraged to see restrictions continue to ease in Melbourne and regional Victoria. After many months of uncertainty it has been heartwarming and uplifting to see friends and families reunited, and underlines how parkrun will play an important role in helping communities reconnect as our events reopen. In accordance with the next step of the Victorian Government’s Roadmap to Reopening, which is due to commence on 22 November, we are currently working with the 90 parkrun and junior parkrun event teams in Victoria to review the density requirements. Around the rest of Australia, Saturday saw the largest number of parkrun events and participants since March. 7,359 walkers, joggers, runners and volunteers took part at 61 events across the ACT, Northern Territory, Western Australia and Tasmania. In Tasmania this included 80 participants at Our Park parkrun and 85 at Kate Reed parkrun, two events that have launched since parkrun reopened. Welcome to the parkrun family! The remainder of the month will see the reopening of almost 150 parkruns and junior parkruns across South Australia and Queensland on 21 and 28 November respectively. Queensland parkruns will display a QR Code for contact tracing purposes and we will be strongly encouraging participants to scan in. In New South Wales, the COVID-19 Policy Team, Public Health Response Branch NSW Ministry of Health have reviewed our application and put this forward to the Minister. We are currently awaiting an outcome and will provide a further update as soon as we are in a position to do so. Finally, we are delighted to announce that parkrun will launch at Melaleuca Women’s Prison in Western Australia on 19 December. Melaleuca will be the 10th parkrun in Australia to be held in a correctional facility and just the second anywhere in the world alongside Wacol parkrun at Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre to take place in a remand centre. We wish the officers at Melaleuca, the women, and their friends and families in the wider community all the very best as they prepare to commence their parkrun journey. Thanks, as always, for your support. parkrun Global Limited, Unit 3, Lower Deck, Phoenix Wharf, Twickenham, Middlesex, England, TW1 3DY. Company number: 09411750 Forward Unsubscribe

11.01.2022 South Australia and Queensland on track to reopen before the end of November. (Yes,November this year!) Surely won’t be long for Victoria and NSW. WE WILL BE BACK!!!! ... COVID-19 (Coronavirus) global update Dear all, Somehow another week has passed by, and it’s time for another update on parkrun around the world. Whilst progress can appear to be slow (or even non-existent) in many parts of the world at the moment, we feel it’s important we continue to celebrate small milestones, and to share the positive steps the parkrun family is taking. Last weekend we saw another ‘comeback PB’ with 106 events across four countries welcoming over 12,000 participants. And this Saturday we eagerly anticipate the return of parkrun in Namibia, whilst looking forward to more events returning in Australia before the end of the month, as first South Australia and then Queensland prepare to restart. By the end of this month we should have over 200 weekly parkrun events around the world, representing a significant and welcome step forward, and something that was hard to imagine only a few months ago. In further possibly-positive news we’re waiting to see what the South African Government announces in the coming days with regards to their national guidelines, a situation that we are keeping a particularly keen eye on with over one-million keen parkrunners waiting patiently for their events to return. Finally, regardless of whether your event is up and running or not, we remain one big community, and we are committed to ensuring our digital channels share positive news and that (not)parkrun continues for those who wish to take part. 08.01.2022 Northern Territory parkrun recommences this Saturday! Things are looking positive for parkrun globally. We will be back!... COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update Dear all, There are just a few days to go before this Saturday’s reopening of Cape Pembroke Lighthouse parkrun on the Falkland Islands, as well as all three events in Australia’s Northern Territory. It’s an incredibly exciting time for all of us and I’m sure I can speak on behalf of the entire parkrun family when I wish them luck for a smooth return on Saturday morning. In other parts of the parkrun world things continue to change, mostly in a positive direction, and we hope a number of other countries are soon able to accommodate parkrun events once again. In England, we continue working towards a late October reopening, and conversations are ongoing with landowners and key stakeholders across the country. Our announcement last Monday was received incredibly positively and the excitement with which people viewed their events returning was, at times, overwhelming. We do understand however that the following day’s announcement by the UK Government that social gatherings were being restricted, alongside an increase in positive test results, has caused anxiety for some people. We would therefore like to reassure you that, as clarified by Sport England, many forms of gathering (including parkrun events specifically) are exempt from these guidelines, and we also continue to monitor underlying levels and impact of COVID-19 infection. Importantly, one of the main reasons we stated that we intend to reopen parkrun and junior parkrun events in England toward the end of October was that we needed the space to consult with landowners and local public health officials, and to allow ourselves time to adjust for changing situations. Finally, it’s incredibly important to understand, and value, the public health benefits of parkrun events reopening. A decision requiring consideration to balance the benefits of that against the evidence available on the risk of infection. There are few, if any, identified cases of COVID-19 infection occurring during participation in organised physical activity events, despite significant evidence of disease transmission in other settings. Yet, at the same time, the significant public health benefits of community-based, socially-focused physical activity events are universally accepted. One of the many excellent articles we saw last week in the UK, discussing the health benefits of parkrun, was written by Sam Wollaston in The Guardian, and can be found here. 08.01.2022 Another case of hang in there. Getting closer. We will be back! ... COVID-19 (Coronavirus) global update Dear all, Last Saturday we were delighted to see parkrun events in Japan and Western Australia restart. Alongside parkruns currently operating in New Zealand, other Australian states and Territories, and the Falkland Islands, we saw 89 events welcome more than 8,500 walkers, joggers and runners, with over 900 volunteers, almost one hundred of whom were volunteering with us for the very first time. It is absolutely heartwarming to see some of our parkrun communities coming back together again. Bit by bit, we are getting there. This weekend parkruns in Guernsey, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and in the Isle of Man will also reopen, taking us to more than 100 events happening across the globe. And we are pleased to announce the expected return of parkrun events in Namibia, on 14 November. We continue in conversations with our stakeholders, global staff team, local teams and volunteers to progress, where we can, any further opportunities to bring parkruns back in our other territories. In the northern hemisphere, as winter encroaches, many of our regions are experiencing a rise in new infections and, in turn, an increase in restrictions. Our commitment to monitoring the situation remains, as does our work with relevant government and public health bodies to make the right decision at the right time; to bring parkrun back to those communities where it is safe and sensible to do so, and where current guidelines allow. This week will mark the end of #parktoberfest, and it’s been wonderful to see so many parkrunners coming together to be active, social and outdoors, logging significant numbers of (not)parkruns. More than 6,000 people who have yet to complete an actual parkrun have now logged a (not)parkrun. I’d like to personally welcome them to the parkrun family. With the passing of each day we see change across all 22 countries in which we operate. Our mission to make the world a healthier and happier place holds as firm as ever, and our belief that parkrun has a significant role to play in mental and physical wellbeing continues to drive us every day. 08.01.2022 Northern Territory, Tasmania,Western Australia and Australian Capital Territory all on track to either continue or recommence soon! Hopefully the rest of Australia will be off and park running soon. We will be back!... COVID-19 (Coronavirus) global update Dear all, With the reopening of 12 events in Tasmania last Saturday, we saw over 5,000 different people walk, jog, run, or volunteer across 45 parkrun events worldwide. Although this represents only 2% of events, 5,000 participants is a significant milestone that took us five-and-a-half years to achieve the first time around. Sadly, due to increased restrictions in response to growing infections, last Friday we took the decision to postpone our planned return in Poland. Whilst disappointing, and despite it being technically possible for parkrun to return within government guidelines, we know that this was the right decision in the circumstances. In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the situation there, and look for an opportunity to return as soon as it is appropriate to do so. This weekend we’re looking forward to welcoming back parkrun in Japan, and we continue to work closely with the health department in Western Australia regarding our planned return this coming Saturday now that their easing of restrictions has been pushed back. Looking further ahead we continue to make positive progress in other parts of the world, with the expected return of parkrun events in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) on 31 October, along with events in Guernsey and the Isle of Man. It’s been heart-warming to see so many parkrunners keeping the community spirit of their local parkrun alive by participating in our (not)parkrun campaign, finding the motivation to be physically active and encouraging others to do so too. Over 70,000 parkrunners have now logged more than 500,000 (not)parkruns, including nearly 6,000 people who have not yet completed a parkrun. All of which is particularly encouraging and demonstrates to us that parkrun has an important role to play in the health and wellbeing of the population now and in the future. With every week that passes we are making progress, with more opportunities for people to parkrun, or (not)parkrun, in more locations around the world. Thanks for your continued support. parkrun Global Limited, Unit 3, Lower Deck, Phoenix Wharf, Twickenham, Middlesex, England, TW1 3DY. Company number: 09411750 Forward Unsubscribe

04.01.2022 Anyone fancy a parkrun in the Falkland Islands? BUT... Much closer to home. parkrun recommences in the Northern Territory on September 19!... Hang in there! We will be back. COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update Dear all, We are delighted to confirm that, as announced on local channels last Friday, parkrun is set to return in the Falkland Islands (Cape Pembroke Lighthouse parkrun) and in Australia’s Northern Territory on Saturday 19 September. As we confirmed in last week’s update, there are clear and specific local guidelines that permit us to return in these locations, and we continue to look at ways in which we can reopen sub-nationally in other places. In further positive news, yesterday, in the UK, we announced our intention for parkrun to return in England by the end of October. This announcement was the culmination of months of hard work, liaising directly with the UK government, Public Health England and government agencies. We have now reached a point where we all agree that the significant public health benefit of parkrun returning outweighs the very low risk of increased Coronavirus transmission. We try to publish as much detail as possible behind the decision we make, so if you would like to find out more: You can read yesterday’s announcement here. Listen to the 4 September Free Weekly Timed podcast where Professor Mike Weed discusses the findings of his research. Listen to the 7 September Free Weekly Timed podcast where parkrun CEO, Nick Pearson, talks through our current position. Read parkrun Global Head of Health & Wellbeing, Chrissie Wellington’s blog discussing the public health impact of parkrun events, and why they are so important right now. We’ve been overwhelmed and humbled by the positive response since the announcement was made. There is clear excitement around parkrun’s return and we have been inundated with positive messages of gratitude and support. Thank you. We also know that many volunteer teams will have questions and we are preparing a programme of measures to support event teams and ambassadors over the coming weeks. Unfortunately we were not able to confirm in yesterday’s announcement that parkrun could return in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. This is simply because government restrictions in those countries currently don’t permit parkrun events to take place. However, should guidance change, it is entirely possible for the other Home Nations of the UK to return within the end of October time frame. Lastly, we remain committed to reopening parkrun in as many territories as possible as soon as it is safe, and where we have the relevant permissions in place to do so. This news represents a significant step forward for parkrun, not just in England but across the world. We’re another step closer to returning. parkrun Global Limited, Unit 3, Lower Deck, Phoenix Wharf, Twickenham, Middlesex, England, TW1 3DY. Company number: 09411750 Forward Unsubscribe

01.01.2022 1st Tassie, next Western Australia. Next? We will be back! COVID-19 (Coronavirus) global update... Dear all, It was wonderful to see parkrun events take place in Australia, New Zealand, and the Falkland Islands last Saturday, as nearly 3,000 people walked, jogged, ran or volunteered across 29 locations. And in further positive news, this coming weekend, we will be delighted to welcome back all five events in Auckland, as restrictions in New Zealand’s capital are lifted. We’re also looking forward to parkrun reopening in another 93 locations across the Australian state of Tasmania, and Poland, on 17 October, at which point there will be well over 100 live parkrun events around the world. Before the month is out we’re also expecting to reopen all our Japanese events on 24 October, followed by Western Australia, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man, on 31 October. Importantly, whilst national and local restrictions permit us to return in both Guernsey and the Isle of Man, given both locations are easily accessible from the rest of the UK, we are mindful of the possible negative impact of significant parkrun tourism at this time. For this reason, the return in Guernsey and the Isle of Man will begin as a four-week pilot, where we will monitor the situation and respond accordingly if required. Finally, whilst it continues to be a turbulent time in so many places, we are seeing encouraging signs. As we open up in more locations it’s wonderful to see the parkrun family getting back on its feet, as people come together once more to be active and social, in the great outdoors. Thanks for your continued support parkrun Global Limited, Unit 3, Lower Deck, Phoenix Wharf, Twickenham, Middlesex, England, TW1 3DY. Company number: 09411750 Forward Unsubscribe
