22.01.2022 We have good news and bad news today. The good news is the re-opening of the Research Centre. The bad news is that Tarella Cottage Museum REMAINS CLOSED until the necessary restoration work has been completed. As well, Saturday talks are not yet re-commencing, until further Covid 19 restrictions are lifted. ... To enlarge on the good news: Hobbys Reach Research Centre will reopen for research purposes on Tuesday 23rd June. Opening days and hours will be the same as always - Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am to 2pm. There are strict protocols in place in keeping with the CovidSafe management plan lodged with NSW Health. Upon arrival, you will need to sign-in as usual but will now need to include your phone and email details. The name of the duty officer for the day will also be in the book and he or she can answer any queries you may have about the restrictions in place. The committee looks forward to welcoming members back to the research centre. However. if you feel unwell, or are suffering from even the very mildest of cold or flu-like symptoms, please do not attend.

15.01.2022 Tarella Cottage - CLOSED Sunday 26th January 2020. Due to disruptions at Tarella Cottage in preparing for the event of embers from the Gospers Mountain Fire reaching north Wentworth Falls, the cottage will remain closed until our February 24th Open Day. All will be sparkling and back in place by then. We send immense gratitude to all fire fighters and all who are helping during this time, it is wonderful that recent rain has assisted them to control nearby fires; that rain may also assist with getting the very sad Tarella gardens and lawns brightening up. The attached image shows Beryl McLaughlins hand made embroidery kit. No doubt Beryl was never idle!.
14.01.2022 Love old cameras? Weve popped a Pop Up exhibition up showing off our Camera Collection! You can see them this Sunday during our October Open Day at Tarella Cottage Museum. 10am - 3pm. All welcome.
14.01.2022 We re-opened the Research Centre this morning ( Tuesdays and Fridays, 10.00 am - 2.00 pm) but Tarella is still closed for restoration work.
14.01.2022 Tarella shining in the sun. Work is continuing inside.
14.01.2022 We are very sad to say that Tarella has been damaged by recent heavy rain over Wentworth Falls, and as much as we hate to do it, we must close Tarella Cottage for this second month of 2020. In January the cause was nearby bush fires... in February the cause is too much rain! We hope to be open on March 29th for you. Heres a great post from the Royal Australian Historical Society for your interest, it links to videos about Salvage and Recovery after precious things have been water damaged. Just like in Tarella!
13.01.2022 Missed us last Sunday? One last chance in 2019. Sunday November 24th. Dont miss us.

09.01.2022 Heres a puzzle related to our collection. Can you help? These things are only the size of a large cherry, they look like small petrified walnuts and are strung together on a slim cord. They also look like little round chocolate crackles but with a slight polish from wear. Do you recognise them? Are they Australian?
09.01.2022 Another piece of linoleum! What are the chances of discovering the whole pattern?
08.01.2022 In the grounds on Tuesday.
08.01.2022 Are you coming to our next Open Day?
07.01.2022 After recent snow and rain across the Blue Mountains we can see the Tarella gardens blossoming and lawns turning greener every day! This is the view towards the North-East, taken from the upstairs bedroom. Come along this Sunday to enjoy the cottage and grounds during this perfect spring weather.
06.01.2022 Wishing you a safe and happy Christmas.
06.01.2022 Restoration works on-going and the cottage will not be open for a while yet (Research Centre IS Open, Tuesdays and Fridays, 10.00 am - 2.00 pm). However, everything was lovely in the sun today.
05.01.2022 Spring in our gardens.
05.01.2022 A great Open Day yesterday. Missed it? Come along to the next one, Sunday July 28. See you there.
04.01.2022 The Dining Room table also swings up which makes it easier to give the beautiful base some care.

04.01.2022 A visitor in Tarella Cottage today.
03.01.2022 Open Day Sunday June 30. Exhibition Space ready for visitors - the heyday of guest houses in the Mountains.
03.01.2022 What is the history of this cap? This week, we take a closer look at this small textile item which has been on display in a cabinet for many, many years. The label describes it simply as a ‘Smoking Cap’, but is it? Would it be more appropriate to label it as a Muslim prayer cap? Is the pattern Turkish? Provenance is that it simply belongs to Tarella, which means there is a slight possibility that, like other interesting small items, this cap may have arrived in a package of souvenirs posted home from Cairo or Malta by Major Geoffrey McLaughlin during World War 1. What will a new 2020 label state?

02.01.2022 The Military Room. A final step in the 2020 restoration of Tarella rooms. This room, including the very small wardrobe side room, was all yellow. Over the last couple of weeks it has received our restoration treatment and is now a soft duck egg blue like the other rooms. This coming Friday, one final top coat, on one wall in this room, will finish the restoration project for 2020. However there’s a bit to do in putting collections back on display! Fingers crossed for Tarella being open again in 2021!
02.01.2022 On Remembrance Day 2020, we remember Geoffrey McLaughlin and Horace Fredrick Kingsmill. They died on the Western Front in 1917. On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. From the summer of 1918, the five divisions of the Australian ...Corps had been at the forefront of the allied advance to victory. Beginning with their stunning success at the battle of Hamel in July, they helped to turn the tide of the war at Amiens in August, followed by the capture of Mont St Quentin and Pèronne, and the breaching of German defences at the Hindenburg Line in September. By early October the exhausted Australians were withdrawn from battle. They had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at a heavy cost. They suffered almost 48,000 casualties during 1918, including more than 12,000 dead. (Australian War Museum- Remembrance Day) See more
