22.01.2022 An interesting weekend read for you...

22.01.2022 Returning undersized calamari gives them a better chance of spawning, producing larger and more viable eggs - meaning more for next season. Help to create a more sustainable fishery by releasing those with less than 20cm mantle length

22.01.2022 TARFish, is pleased to announce the appointment of former Tasmanian Premier, Paul Lennon, as Independent Chairman to the TARFish Board. In addition to the appointment of Paul Lennon as Independent Chair, TARFish has also appointed two Associate Board Members. Mike Stevens will join the board as the Northern Region Representative and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to TARFish that we look forward to drawing on to assist us with policy development in coming months.... Alison Hay, a practising lawyer and lifelong fisher, will also join the TARFish Board as an Expert Member. We warmly welcome the strategic thinking and new perspective she will bring to the TARFish Board. On behalf of the TARFish Board I encourage all recreational fishers to join us in welcoming our new members as we move the organisation forward to a new era of effective representation and outcome focus. 19.01.2022 It's more important than you think.

17.01.2022 Make sure your lifejacket meets the AS4758.1 before the end of 2020! All lifejackets are required by law to meet the new standard by January 2021, and authorities will be checking. Stay safe this summer and check your lifejacket, and if you've got a self-inflating jacket make sure to keep it serviced

17.01.2022 I don’t think the TRLFA liked what we had to say. What do you think?

17.01.2022 A big shout out to the South Arm community for helping us track down a piece of the pipe hit by recreational fisher Chris (see our earlier post). The section was passed on to #MAST today. One step closer to identifying its owner. Thanks, Jane@TARFish

14.01.2022 A privileged few get to wander the labyrinthine tracts of east Tasmania’s giant kelp forests; fewer still because they’re all but gone, writes Dan Down in the l...atest issue of Wilderness. Read 'The Lost World' featuring IMAS University of Tasmania researcher Cayne Layton whose 'mission is to restore this unseen yet vital world, using cutting-edge genetic science to tackle what appears to be an insurmountable challenge. Incredibly, he is on the cusp of success. There is hope.' https://journal.wilderness.org.au/issue-003/ Photo: Kelp forest - IMAS

10.01.2022 TARFish today panned the Ministers announcement on recreational rock lobster season dates for failing to support Tasmania’s 20,000 recreational rock lobster fishers in preference to the commercial sector. Enough is enough, it’s time that the Tasmanian Government stopped asking recreational fishers to pick up the tab for commercial overfishing on the East Coast of Tasmania, said TARFish CEO Jane Gallichan. 10.01.2022 Fancy a feed of fresh Atlantic salmon? Reports emerging of a significant salmon escape in southern D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Remember everyone, 12 is your bag limit and 24 is possession limit. Image below as guide to rough area of escape.

06.01.2022 Great article about Naomi Wisby - a terrific ambassador for female fishers - and well worth a read. Did you know there are two male fishers to each female. Right now the Government is running a survey to inform the development of a 10 year marine fishing strategy for Tasmania. So far, about 10 per cent of responders are female. It’s important that female fishers share their views so please take the time to fill it in!
