23.01.2022 "Your Creative Nook" Sometimes it gets especially hard to get into your creative flow even when you have access to the full world or at least your whole city. But I can imagine it is even harder for most when you have nowhere to go and all of this chaos being fed into your lives through social media. Our minds may be the place we go for a release, but ultimately our spaces are what helps us feel at ease to do so. Please find your creative zone and develop your space around yo...u to allow you to escape the chaos and let constructive recreation of the mind ooze. It's what keeps life vibrant and gives passion to your meaning and uniqueness to your visions. This spot is in a tiny little cabin in @bekindcoco's nanna's place that she uses as a place to escape and do art in. We had the pleasure of staying there a few times and waking up to the open sea and having such a self contained box to live in made us feel very simplified in our thoughts and free from the confines of a bustling city or suburb. We now achieve that by making sure we exercise outside, managing our space to be smooth and organised and keeping lots of plants around us. 22.01.2022 "How she belongs" Playing in the setting sun, enjoying the salt water and salt air, seagulls squawking incessently, this is where she belongs, this setting is how i see us living our lives together as best we can. It doesn't have to be @stivesharbour but it sure as hell will be near the beach, enjoying the sun, making memories and playing in the water. It's @chloefloraforeman 's birthday week (yes week, she remidns me every day that it's her birthday lol) and i've done all i ...can during this #covidlockdown to make sure she was able to enjoy it. (I'm sure the chocolate, homemade pizza, murder mystery movie and salted caramel icecream was enjoyable.) But I know that no matter what i do for her it won't ever repay her for choosing to let me into her life and family, and giving me the daily joy it is to be with her. (regardless of all the "Chloe moments") All I hope is that over time i can make her life as wonderful as she deserves. To start that it would be great if you could all go vie her design insta a look over at @chloefloradesigns and if you like her stuff then give her a follow. As for me, I guess i'll have to back to smooching her face and hugging her tightly and grumpily accepting her cold hands and feet on my body whenever she gets i bed after me. I love you Chloe and one way or another this birthday will be great (even if it is a bit delayed). P.S: I made her stand and splash around for like 30 minutes while the sun was setting to get this shot and i'm not sure which one is the best one, but this works for instagram. Just like these birds, when the hand of the more dominant ones offer us food, we will swarm and we will focus on ourselvs and we will eat. Especially if the world is scarce of food around you. 14.01.2022 "What life lives beneath your feet?" Have you ever cast your mind to imagining what life is like for the smaller creatures, for the ones that have no concept of right or wrong? Have you ever imagined what passes through their brain on a day to day basis? Do they feel confused or is everything just beyond their comprehension and that's ok? So you think they think they have it all figured out, like we do? Or do they not realy think much at all? (I think you'd be surprised how m...uch most animals are able to comprehend.) Either, take a moment to think about how in terms of numbers, humans are one of the least populace living organisms on this planet. One day we may be as insignificant to some other existence as others lives are to us. Or we may be the dominant species of the universe. 12.01.2022 "Marbled water" This shot isn't anything special. I think most people in the world have taken a shot like this. But to me, I just love the marbled water behind it. To my girlfriend, she just loves the duck. But that's ok, sometimes we need to pay attention and admire the natural beauty however mundane it may seem to us, it's foreign and exciting to someone and usually for very interesting reasons.... I also love how this could very easily be a painting of centuries ago and not one thing would be different. When I stare out into my horizon, I see many things, a wonderful career, traveling the world, helping the world through counselling and coaching, but through it all... I see her; always standing there, beckoning for me to walk beside her hand in hand into every sunset and every sunrise in every new land we will wander. Every time we face a new challenge, I am grateful i can face it with her, whether i ...am leading and showing her something new or she is there keeping me calm and on track. 11.01.2022 "Life Persists" Even on the bleak rock face of the south island of #NewZealand, life thirves, by just the water and sunlight and some micronutrients it finds a way. Protecting this earth is not some vain attempt to save the planet, it's to protect us. I had an interaction recently with a young girl who said she was studying environmental science in school and she was amazed that I choose to minimise plastic every time i go out. She said "I'll remember that next time I go out...". It is amazing how so many people know about the grand negative effects of humanity's actions and yet they do not translate that into action in how they contribute to them. 11.01.2022 "When the sun shines in her eyes" Back at the end of summer @bekindcoco and I did a photoshoot to show off her new @luna_and_sun_label skirt. I am missing those days as this is one of the first winters we are spending in Australia in 3 years. I loved catching the tones that meet but don't meld too much as the rock has a really orange tone as well as the skirt. It was definitely a challenge but a nice touch to catch the sunset in her @woodhoy sunglasses. It definitely reminds... me of how much I see the light in her eyes as she does what she does writing about sustainable living and supporting sustainable business's. 08.01.2022 "The shed we'd like to forget" What happened in this shed you ask? What if i told you that this was the site of multiple murders of backpackers back in the 90's by the Australian known as "The Badger's Weir Butcher"? What if I told you they were all dragged here and kept in the forest til a passing ranger noticed the smell? ... Well, I'd be lying, because none of that happened. But when I saw this dilapidated shed in the beautiful sunshine and lively rainforest of the Dandeno...ng ranges, all i saw was despair and fear. Maybe it the despair of the shed to try to withstand the ever-persistent tendency of nature to claim everything back. Or maybe the shed's fear of it's demise and rejection as a place of use. But I challenged myself to try to make it feel cold, scary and uninviting, the opposite of what it was in that lovely environment. How did it work? 08.01.2022 "Another Sunset, Another Day" Do you ever realise that you are living in the future? Like really put yourself in the #perspective of someone 30, 50, 100, 1,000 or 10,000 years ago. What would they have thought about this time?... I can tell you that each time gap would elicit a different reaction from each person. Would they have been shocked at the situation with current politics? Would they have been surprised by the actions of humans today? Would they have been concerned about the future of the natural earth? Would they have been angry at our rampant wealth and the organic disparity? OR Do you think they would marvel at our technological innovations? Do you think they'd shed a tear over the interconnectivity of all humans on earth? Do you think they would be amazed at the actions we have taken to stop poverty, suffering, discrimination and greed? Do you think they'd wonder how we can have such comfort and yet still go out and achieve great and difficult things all day? Take some time, think as if you were a person from EACH of those time periods and reflect on what we have and where we have come from. What currently is, is as mundane to us as the utopian future will be to those that live in it in the future. 02.01.2022 "What it is to be free?" There was a time when I travelled to #Bavaria in #Germany and I was with two wonderful women who have affected my life profoundly over the years of our different relationships and we had gone for a lovely walk around #Regensburg to see all the different landmarks and we finally got to a point where the local of the two women said she has skinny-dipped before and we all agreed that we were #hotandsticky enough on the 30 degree day to jump in. I though...t why not, I am not ashamed of my body, the water looks lovely, the feeling will be freeing and I would get some great photos from an angle I couldn't otherwise get to. At that moment the bounds of #socialnorms, feelings of embarrassment or #uncomfortableness (and worries for my expensive camera) were put away and instead, I prioritised #opportunities, #newexperiences and my art form and not only did I get some awesome photos, but I gained #memories, laughs and a reminder that I have nothing to hide from the world. I then proceeded to bore the pants of my friends because I took the next half an hour taking the same shot at a million angles I would not otherwise get if I wasn't neck-deep in the water. (Also took some great shots of them. All decent of course, they weren't nudists lol) I now wonder, during this #lockdown if everyone is also contemplating what freedom means. If it means you can wear a mask or not, but they aren't free to change jobs, cast off social norms, go topless for a day, #partyuntilmorning, or just take time for themselves regardless of their duties. Is freedom simply the decision or is it the existence? Just because you have been given the choice on your responsibilities, does that really mean you are free even if you can't enact your freedom due to your past choices? 02.01.2022 "The overwhelming flow of life" Recently, I have taken on a new job, studying full time online, helping my lovely partner start her freelance business (go give @chloefloradesigns a follow and share it around), while also fixing my car, paying off debts, helping friends and students with struggles, and playing part-time house husband. Sometimes things can get a bit overwhelming, like you are standing under this waterfall and being pelted with the force of everything you are fa...cing unable to see a way out. You have to remember that sometimes you can just step to the side and the waterfall will just keep going, but you can catch your breath til you need to step into it again. Life is not about pushing through no matter what and it's not about being afraid of the rush or the intensity, it's understanding that there is a balance to it all. The water that rushes down with the ferocity that could break you is also the thing that gives nourishment to those around you and brings vibrancy to the world around you. But if you look at those rocks that are directly underneath the waterfall, that never moved, you'll notice they are dulled, worn out and lifeless.
