16.01.2022 MEASLES ALERT FOR BRISBANE Metro North Hospital and Health Service Public Health Unit has issued a measles alert after a male passenger travelled on an inte...rnational flight to Brisbane while unknowingly infectious. Passengers who arrived in Brisbane on China Southern Airlines flight CZ 381 from Guangzhou on the morning of Saturday, 5 January are urged to be alert for signs of the highly infectious disease. Anyone who was on the flight, or at the Brisbane International Airport between 8:30am and 10am on Saturday should seek medical advice if they develop symptoms. The man also visited The Prince Charles Hospital Emergency Department from noon to approximately 10.30pm on Saturday 5 January. Metro North Hospital and Health Service are warning people who were in those areas at the same time as the man, to be wary of measles symptoms which include: fever, lethargy, runny nose, moist cough and sore and red eyes. This is followed a few days later by a blotchy, red rash which often starts on the face and then becomes widespread over the body. Measles symptoms usually start around 10 days after contact but can occur between seven and 18 days after contact with an infectious person. Contact your GP if you have been in these areas and have any of these symptoms - it is VERY important to call the medical practice first if you think you might have measles, so that staff can take precautions to avoid you spreading it to others. Further advice is available by calling 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84). (Note: image is not of diagnosed patient).
